Cosy 20m2 studio in the city-centre surrounded by a bright and leafy yard. The studio is quiet as it is a fair distance away from the road and is located at the foot of Strefi Hill, where one can go for an evening stroll. It has its own separate entrance, independent from the rest of the house, as well as its own bathroom and small kitchen. Situated in the neighbourhood of Exarchia, it is only a 5min walk away from Panepistimio or Omonoia metro (tube) stations, and provides easy access to other means of public transportation (buses, trolleys, tram etc.). The major archaeological sites are within walking distance too. For instance the archaeological museum is just five blocks away, and the Acropolis with its new museum is within 30mins walking distance. Monastiraki square and Plaka (the old town) are just a 20min walk away, and Psyri and Keramikos square, where the heart of Athens nightlife is located, are either a 15min walk, or a metro station away respectively. Ideal for couples who want to explore the diverse centre of the city, as well as students attending seminars or professionals on business trips. The room can accommodate up to three people, or a family with one child. The house, built in 1920 just after the First World War, is steeped in history. On the trunk of the palm tree which stands in the yard, you can still see the marks left by the bullets from the street fights in Athens during the Greek civil war in 1946. In the 80’s and 90’s the house was one of the most (some claim the most) famous rock-bars of the city, with many local and international rock-stars including Nick Cave having performed on its stage. Its yard, separated into different levels, is a cool and welcome oasis of plants and trees, giving the impression that you are somewhere far away from the noisy and crowded centre of a big city. It is perfect for enjoying your breakfast, lunch, or an al fresco glass of wine, or just relaxing and unwinding after a tiring day of sightseeing.
Romanos and his mother were kind, gracious, and helpful hosts. I had a fabulous experience staying at this studio. When I first got there, Romanos took the time to explain how things worked in the studio, and then sat down with a map and showed me how to get to some great places to eat, as well as other places of interest. There was also a delicious welcoming surprise, courtesy of his mother, and a bowl of fresh oranges that I thoroughly enjoyed. I was in the city to do research, and the location was ideal (5-10 minutes walk to the National Archaeological Museum, 30-45 minutes walk to the Acropolis and the museums surrounding it). It was wonderful to have a place to come back to after a long day that I felt completely comfortable in. The privacy was nice too! There are a few bakeries on the next block, as well as a supermarket, pharmacy, and small food shops, which made grabbing breakfast and anything else I needed very easy. I will note, this particular room is up some stairs, so I wouldn't suggest it for folks with mobility challenges. Other than that, if you're looking for a place near the National Archaeological Museum with fabulous hosts and a nice garden view, this is the place for you.
From the start Romanos was the perfect host. He answered our messages very quickly and he waited for us in his studio with a lot of well thought details. Her mother brought us a home made Greek launch which was just what we needed after our long trip to Athens. He also left us everything we needed for breakfast and wine and beer !
He was very open to explain to us the different attractions of the city and different neighbourhoods. He left us a map with recommended spots.
The studio is very comfy and well equipped. There's a nice little garden with plants and flowers perfect for the afternoon. The neighbourhood is very interesting and unique. At walking distance from the Archeological Museum and 20 min walk from Plaka and Acropolis. We highly recommend this.
Romanos and his mother Maria represent the best of airbnb. They were kind and accommodating. Maria made the most amazing Greek dips and bread. The place was very lovely, exactly as the pictures show. Bright colours of wisteria and bougainvillea and the artistic decor made their place postcard perfect. The location was great, near enough to walk to all of the downtown sights, and within walking distance from Metro stops from the airport. I did not meet Romanos in person, but he was very responsive over email and sent me detailed directions to get there. Maria was waiting for me with her homemade refreshments and with maps and ideas for tours. Thank you for making my stay in Athens so lovely! I would definitely stay here again!
It was a exceptional experience! We met Maria and Romanos' brother who provided homemade greek snacks & breakfast, detailed directions to go around and a warm welcome :) And the checkout was really easy: since we had to leave very early in the morning, we just simply leave the keys at the front door. Their own garden along with its colorful decoration was very pretty esp. in spring. The location was overall very close to the city center, the only inconvenience was to carry the luggage all the way from the nearest metro (We underestimated the distance and number of traffic lights). But anyway, it is highly recommended!
Romanos and his family are absolute pros at hospitality! Upon arrival we were offered a host of delicious Greek appetizers, guidance on getting around Athens, and information on how to contact them for more information. The second to last day Romanos mother made a delicious funnel cake breakfast for us that was exceptional.
What a lovely airbnb experience. Wonderful studio and such a lovely family. Thanks again!
Staying at the dream studio was a lovely experience. The area is right off the tourist track so much more interesting. I suppose it might not be everyone's 5 fantastic stars of an area, but for anyone with imagination it would be ! Though I wouldnt particularly want to walk about at night alone, as the metro is further than just round the corner, during the day I felt totally safe exploring - loved it and would definitely jreturn to the same area again. Nice local cafes and restaurants nearby. It is possible to cook there, and as there's a great fruit and veg market on Saturday and food shops close, this was very useful. Romano and Marie - his mother who lives next door - are truly kind, generous spirits, ready to help or answer any queries about Greece. Romano even made a phone call on my behalf, and really put himself out to ensure my trip was smooth. He's an interesting person, philosopher and writer, and his mother equally interesting and talented. I felt very lucky to be there and sitting on the balcony when the sun shone was bliss! But the most fantastic thing was some delicious food which Marie had prepared for when I arrived ! And tasty food for breakfast. She makes a real effort to prepare the room with love and care. Highly recommended.
