Stay in a beautiful penthouse duplex apartment on upper west side. We are located at W 108th and Columbus 2 blocks from Central Park West and two blocks from Morning side Park. 2 Blocks away are red line trains (1 local/2+3 express - located on Broadway which is lined with fresh markets, restaurants, bars, bakeries) and the other direction is the B (gold) C (blue) trains taking you into Times Square, grand central etc. Transfer to the east side at 42nd and below.
I live here in this apt and in NYC and when I say I looked at 40 apartment building in this area before I found and fell in love with this one I wouldn't be lying. Most apartments in Manhattan are cut up shoeboxes and this one is totally original with high ceilings, roof patio, and large eat in kitchen.
The Neighborhood. We consider ourselves SUPER lucky to live in such a great NON touristy neighborhood. Around here are mostly students, families and locals.
Next to us is Zanny's cafe. There's a yummy crepe restaurant across the street and a banging pizza place on the corner. (best pizza tho is on 110 and Amsterdam-ugh amazing). Good ole' Ranch Deli for the quick stop and they make a good Reuben, Wine shop across the street is awesome and the same owner owns Manhattan Beer and Vine across the street Columbus and 109th). Izzola for Italian food and a great American bistro is right next door. Several bars on Amsterdam and Broadway. Orange 67 in Harlem rocks and is a ten minute walk and a little further up is the famous Red Rooster.
On W 98th and Columbus is a Whole Foods and on Broadway two blocks over are three fresh food markets, will recommend all of them for great deals on produce. There are some little markets on Amsterdam as well.
**WALK UP Building. 4 flights we are on the 5th floor (top).
Amenities of the apartment:'
Washer dryer inside the apartment - Free use of a washer and dryer whaaaa? I know this is better than your very own Willie Wonka Chocolate factory so figured I'd list it first.
Rooftop deck with dining table (for good weather use - and looks really pretty in snow too :)
Two story Duplex. All the bedrooms are on opposite ends of the apartment for added privacy. Awesome sauce.
Penthouse top floor - okay we ain't gonna lie, it's a walk up. four flights. But just think how good your buns are gonna look. It's better than jazzercise.
Red Oak Wood floors throughout
Chef kitchen with stainless steel appliances and French door fridge
Freshly custom painted by yours truly.
Room has walk in closet, built in shelving and full sized real bed with nightstand. Room is a good size. This is Manhattan and the apartment is not a shoebox. Score.
This is a quiet house, very peaceful. LOVE watching movies. Go Apple TV! Yay Netflix. Maybe on the weekends when it's not midterms or a jazillion papers are due have dinner or play board games, possibly go out or well, work.
For you smokers out there - there is a rooftop that allows smoking otherwise not in the house.
Guests have access to the whole House outside of the bedrooms occupied by others :)
Interaction with Guests
I live here more than half the year so I totally do when I'm here in a non overbearing manner. Mostly though roomie and I are studying and working. Sometimes we watch movies together or eat together.
Wine shop across the street is awesome. The locals all know you. Several cute cafes, bars, and eats on Columbus. We are within 10 blocks of four grocery stores including Whole Foods, West Side Market, Garden of Eden and UWS Trader Joe's at 72nd. Close to Equinox and Crunch gym. Super close to Columbia w/out all the noise of Broadway or Amsterdam. Much quieter and Central Park is next to us. I love this area!
1 red line at 103 and 110 on Broadway and the B/C Line at 110 and Central Park West. The C runs along Central Park West which becomes 8th avenue. The Red line and Gold line criss cross Manhattan. Metro Buses to the East side.
Other Things to Note
This is a 2 story apartment - which is what the legal term Duplex refers to. 1/2 bath on the first floor + kitchen, livingroom, this bedroom and across the apartment the 2nd bedroom.
Upstairs is full bath, roof patio, laundry room, and 3rd bedroom. All bedrooms are separated from each other which offers great additional privacy. No bedrooms share a common wall.
No Smoking of any substance inside but there is the roof top deck.
No drugs of any kind.
No loud music at night, please be clean and respectful.
We do not provide ongoing Maid Service. Since you are booking longer term agreements you are responsible for cleaning up after yourself and also pitching in with cleaning duties so the house remains clean.
We do have maid service that can come in twice monthly which can be split amongst the three of us and comes to about $38 each cleaning each person. Otherwise, cleaning and maintaining the house is a joint effort as normal for house sharing and roommate situations.
Js is a charming hostess and made me feel very welcome. She was very helpful and cheerful in answering all my queries. I would recommend her to everybody.
The apartment has quite a deal of charm and is very well looked after. It is extremely clean and very well located. The Upper West side is a great place for visiting New York
The apartment is located on the upper west side close to the C & B subway lines on 110th St., and only a few blocks further from the 1 train at 110th.
The bedroom is located just off of the kitchen. There is a sliding door that comes out of the wall for privacy, but does not lock.
I concur with a previous reviewer that noted the apartment could have been much cleaner, particularly given the quality of the pictures.
There is a half bathroom on the first floor and a full bath on the second. The shower had trouble draining for the first couple days of my visit, but this issue was fixed by removing the hair stopper in the shower drain.
Jianna's friend Maka was looking after the apartment while Jianna is away. There was another AirBnB guest staying in one of the other bedrooms, and Maka was extremely helpful anytime either of us had a question regarding the apartment.
Hi Frank - Well we hired a professional cleaning service named Kleen Green to come in the day of your arrival and the house was professionally cleaned for four hours by that service when you moved in. SO I am very surprised to hear that the house was found dirty in any way. I was informed by Maka however, that the house was not kept cleaned and that the guests staying (you and other guest) left the house very dirty specifically the bathroom, kitchen, and floors. We do clean the house thoroughly before your arrival however we cannot clean up after you every day nor should we have to. If you wanted that type of Maid service you needed to notify and pay for that up front. My friend did specifically said you left the house filthy, hence I did not give you any review because I had nothing positive to say about the experience. Would not host this guest again.
Thank you for letting us know about the shower drain- the reason you had to remove the hair stopper was because it was full of hair and soap scum and you actually have to remove your hair after a shower.
I spent three months at Jianna's apartment and she was really nice, always available, made me feel at home. The location is perfect, it is close to centraI park and the neighborhood is quiet but with plenty of bars, cafes, groceries and everything you need, so I strongly recommend it if you are planning traveling to NYC. Thanks for everything I will miss you!
We loved NY city and the house is a tipical normal and nice house in a good area, not crowded. Jianna and her roomate are very nice people and they helped us to enjoy the city. The subway its like 2 blocks away. I recommend this house to everyone :)
Good enough to eat" à qq blocs : miam, miam !
Le bus est juste en face de l'appartement et le métro à 2 blocs.
I spent 3 months in Jianna's house. It was incredible! You feel it like is your home. If you want to talk, you will have amazing roommates to share experiences with. Otherwise, you will have your own spot and nobody will disturb you. The house is complete with all the utilities and tools that you need for your stay. Also, is very clean and organized. The neighborhood has everything to walking distance, and the two major subway lines to move from north to south and to connect from east to west in Manhattan, pass really close (2 or 3 blocks from the building). Totally recommended!
Jianna's apartment was clean and cosy, exactly as advertised. Although we didn't get to meet her, she was sweet and professional over email and everything went smoothly. Would definitely stay again!
