Luxury&peace on River Liffey Island

Apartment - Private room · Islandbridge, Dublin, County Dublin 8, Ireland

The Space

Welcome to your Dublin home from home!

We'd like to invite you to enjoy as much cozy luxury, peace, interesting conversation, fun, home cooking and pleasure, as we have always enjoyed, as guests of Airbnb hosts, in our happy travels with Airbnb worldwide.

You will love our ex-show apartment in on an island in the middle of the River Liffey. It is part of a converted Georgian mill complex, and is furnished with our family antiques and treasures, which date from the English Jacobean period onwards, and, after a wet Dublin day, a great pleasure awaits you - a soak in our large jacuzzi bath.

The feeling in our sunny apartment, is like one of being in the countryside, as it enjoys panoramic views across the River Liffey Weir and the open parkland of Dublin's War Memorial Gardens and the Phoenix Park, whilst still being only a mile from Dublin's buzzing City Centre. It also has high speed WIFI.

Your snug little guest room is 8 x 11 feet and also has its own large desk, WIFI, safe, CD radio, TV, DVD player, and a double sofa bed, in addition to the actual soft single bed.

You will find that you are a mere 5 minute walk from top tourist attractions Kilmainham Gaol, Irish Museum of Modern Art and 15 minutes walk to the Guinness Brewery. You can also go for long walks up the river to the historic village of Chapelizod for a pub lunch or into the Phoenix Park, as we often do, for a long walk or run.

You will be staying roughly 1 mile from the city centre which is a 5 minute bus ride, a 10 minute cycle or 40 minute walk away. You are on multiple bus routes, or 18 minutes walk from the red LUAS tram/ main airport bus 747/national rail station at Heuston which serves Cork, Kerry, Waterford and Limerick lines. From Heuston you take the tram into the city in 5 minutes, or you can cycle from us into the city in 15 minutes, if you want to live like a local! You are also 8 minutes from the M50/N4 junction (Dublin's main ring road) by car and 25 minutes drive from the airport. There is free parking in the park beside our home.

Alice is a passionate cook, and qualified at Cook's Academy Dublin last year, so she would warmly invite you to share our candlelit dinner with us for an extra €10 cash a night, lunch is €8.She can cook classical Irish, British, Italian, French and Thai food. She would be very happy to teach you the recipes that she cooks too!

We are a thirty something couple who got married in May 2013. For our honeymoon we went around Italy with Airbnb! Between us, we speak, as our first languages, English and Czech, and also from an intermediate to advanced level, Italian, Slovak, French and Russian. We have traveled to over 40 countries between us, last year saw us in Mali, Morocco, Gambia and Senegal, the previous travelling from our Czech second home to Istanbul by rail.

Alice is a freelance opera director and theatre writer/director, with mixed Irish-English-American heritage who mostly runs her own theatre company Wonderland Theatre. If you're interested she can tell you a fair bit about Irish history, writing and culture from her various theatre projects on the topic - one of which, an audio walk of James Joyce's Dubliners is on in Dublin daily. Radek is originally from South Bohemia and now has his own pottery studio in Phibsborough Touch Design Ceramics, which you are very welcome to visit.

Our other interests would be travel, all things cultural - after all we met in the Hugh Lane Art Gallery in Dublin, beach and mountain walks, opera and classical music, reading, movies and cycling.

A breakfast of cereals, home made jams, breads and tea/coffee etc is included in the price.

The bedroom in this listing can also accommodate a second person on the pull out sofa bed or on a single air mattress on the floor, but it's very snug, which is why we only charge the less than a night in a hostel for a second person with breakfast.

If a couple would like to stay with us, please see our other listing for our double bedroom, stays are for 3 nights or longer - as we need to move into our snug guest bedroom. Just click on our profile to find it.

We welcome long term guests and have had some guests stay with us for over a month. Many of these guests have been moving to a new life in Dublin and we've really enjoyed helping them settle in and find permanent accommodation - and best of all are delighted to have made new friends in Dublin!

We've included gym/hotub/sauna/steamroom in our listing as Alice is a member of the local gym at the Living Well Kilmainham (which is 5 minutes away) and can bring you there for free once as her guest.

If we're free and you can text us to confirm your flight is on time, we're willing to pick you up or drop you at the airport for an additional €25 cash, plus short term car park fees (currently €3/hour) if we need to use it. This is less than a taxi and we've started to offer this to be sure our foreign guests are no longer cheated by drivers.

Thanks for reading our listing and we hope to welcome you to our home and city soon.

Guest Access

Our whole home bar our bedroom. We encourage you to make you feel very at home.

Interaction with Guests

We love to chat to our guests and very much look forward to sharing our home with them and helping them to make the very best of our city and country. Our flat has two bedrooms and we two live in one and our guests in the other.

The Neighborhood

Our home is in the middle of the biggest urban park in Europe so we love the feeling of being in the midst of nature whilst being so close to the city. From our window we can see the River Liffey Weir and all the water birds nesting and feeding. It is very peaceful here, even though the city centre is only a mile away.

Famous tourist attractions Kilmainham Gaol, where the leaders of the 1916 rising were executed, and the Irish Museum of Modern Art, the War Memorial Gardens and the Phoneix Park are all within a 5 minute walk of our home. The Guinness Brewery and Museum of Decorative Arts are 15 minutes walk away.

  • Very good hosts, the bed is bizarrely comfortable.

  • Alice and Radek were very welcoming and despite being under great pressure with work commitments, made sure my stay was comfortable, putting themselves out to help me with the booking and with locating them. They obviously go to a great deal of trouble to ensure that their guests are provided with every comfort - Alice bought me my preferred tea and Radek came and stood on the corner waiting to flag me down because I was struggling with the rush hour traffic. A very thoughtful and interesting couple, I wish them every success with the Airbnb venture and hope to stay with them again.

I would not hesitate to recommend them to others and will certainly stay with them again myself if I can.

  • I had an absolutely wonderful stay! Thank you Alice and Radek for your wonderful hospitality and opening your home to travelers. I highly recommend having dinner at the house, Alice is a wonderful cook and a great way to experience local dining. The location is charming and walks in the area were great. Alice has made nice little touches to make your stay more enjoyable with tourist maps, taxi numbers, and even a hot water bottle for the bed, which was wonderful. I would highly recommend an airBNB traveler to stay at their warm home.

Thank you again Alice and Radek! Cheers!

  • I had a very enjoyable 2-night stay with Alice and Radek. I will definitely be booking again, and would recommend it to others without hesitation. The apartment is just as described and photographed. Alice and Radek are friendly, and Alice is a good cook, so I recommend taking the dinner option - if offered.

  • I´ve spent 3 weeks with them and it was just a fantastic experience, Alice made dinner for me every day and we had long talks about pretty much everything.
I just cannot recommend them enough!

  • Alice and Radek were wonderful hosts during my short stay in Dublin. Their place is surrounded by greenery, really beautiful location and accessible. The picture don't do justice to their lovely living room, the whole flat feels homely and warm. Thank you very much for opening your home to me!

  • I recently had a very nice stay with Alice and Radek, my only complaint is that I couldn't stay longer!

They have a lovely little apartment, very comfy, with lots of mementos of their worldly travels, and a nice view of War Memorial Park! I really enjoyed trading stories with them, they have great knowledge of Ireland and Dublin and were very very helpful with suggestions for things to see and do, and directions!

Their location was perfect for me since I was arriving in Dublin on the train at Heuston station, their apartment is an easy 15-20 minute walk from Heuston station, and they have excellent directions on how to find it on their profile. They are very near Phoenix Park, War Memorial Park, Kilmainham Gaol, Irish Museum of Modern Art, Museum of Decorative Arts at Collins Barracks, and Guinness. There is a LUAS station right at Heuston station, and also the Airlink airport shuttle bus. And there are many other sites within easy walking distance.

My room was small but nice and cozy, and I had all the room I needed. The bed is a true single bed but is perfectly fine, and would only be a problem if you are very tall! :-) They have a very nice kitchen and living/dining space, and we were able to enjoy the views of the park during our meals. It was fun sharing dinner with them, we even had a "Christmas in October" dinner which was very fun!

  • Alice & Radek are great! I had an excellent stay for two weeks in a beautiful, cozy and friendly apartment with two wonderful persons of art. Apartment is full of interesting pictures, books, and works of art. I will definitely miss those lovely dinners with A&R where we had nice talks and I personally got a lot of useful information regarding my new start in Dublin.
I would recommend trying dinners prepared by Alice: besides being tasty, she can cook extraordinary things which may surprise you in a good way :).
You will have broad selection of breakfast - just as at home. Another particular thing about this place - is its view to Memorials Garden with the river which is in 5 min walk distance.
I would highly recommend to stay at A&R if you are traveling or starting a new life in Ireland!

  • Radek and Alice provided my sister and me with the warmest possible accommodation. We were sorry we missed Alice, but Radek with his helpful remarks about the city and his practical help with his small van one day made my job to find a house in Dublin easier. The house was exactly as shown in the pictures, quiet, pretty and warm, although the room we stayed was indeed a bit narrow for two people to sleep in. However, I strongly recommend this place for anyone who is making a start in Dublin. Conveniently close to the city centre and linked with buses, made my first days delightful! Thank you again.

  • My Stay with Radek has been very pleasant. I did not have the pleasure to meet Alice since she was away. Radek is easy going and check in check out time was very flexible. I have nice chat with Radek almost everyday. Radek was very generous with my breakfast choices which was great and more than enough for breakfast. The condo view is very unique. Though it is a condo, the place is very quiet and i do not hear the neighbours. The park view is definitely a big plus as well. They have lots of interesting things for you to look at at their home. Great place for one person.
