About this listing

Gorgeous ex-show apartment, furnished with antiques, with panoramic views from our south facing balcony across Dublin's parklands and River Liffey. A lovely oasis in the heart of Dublin where you'll be hosted by a potter and a theatre maker.

The space

Welcome to your Dublin home from home!

We'd like to invite you to enjoy as much pleasure, interesting conversation, art, fun, peace, home cooking and style, as we have enjoyed as guests of Airbnb hosts worldwide.

You will love our ex-show apartment in on an River Liffey island. It is part of a converted Georgian mill complex, and is furnished with our family antiques and treasures and a Jacuzzi bath.

The feeling in our sunny south west facing apartment, is one of being in the countryside, as it enjoys panoramic views across the River Liffey Weir and the open parkland of Dublin's War Memorial Gardens and the Phoenix Park, whilst still being only a mile from Dublin's buzzing City Centre. It also has high speed WIFI.

We are both artists and love to open up our home to travelers from all over the world and very often cook for them!

Your snug little guest room is 8 x 11 feet and also has its own desk, WIFI, safe, CD radio, TV, DVD player and day bed. This bed can be either a single bed or pull out to form a king sized double bed. It also has a little library of Irish literature, poetry, theatre, comedy, folklore and travel books, lots of Irish music, and most importantly guide books, maps and flyers for all of Dublin's attractions.

You will find that you are a mere 5 minute walk from top tourist attractions Kilmainham Gaol, Irish Museum of Modern Art and 15 minutes walk to the Guinness Brewery. You can also go for long walks up the river to the historic village of Chapelizod for a pub lunch or into the Phoenix Park, as we often do, for a long walk or run.

A breakfast of cereals, home made jams, breads and tea/coffee etc is included in the price.

You will be staying roughly 1 mile from the city centre which is a 5 minute bus ride, a 10 minute cycle or 40 minute walk away. You are on multiple bus routes, or 18 minutes walk from the red LUAS tram/ main airport bus 747/national rail station at Heuston which serves Cork, Kerry, Waterford and Limerick lines. From Heuston you take the tram into the city in 5 minutes, or you can cycle from us into the city in 15 minutes, if you want to live like a local! You are also 8 minutes from the M50/N4 junction (Dublin's main ring road) by car and 25 minutes drive from the airport. There is free parking in the park beside our home.

Alice is a passionate cook, and qualified at Cook's Academy Dublin, so she would warmly invite you to share our candlelit dinner with us for an extra €12 cash a night, lunch is €8.She can cook classical Irish, British, Italian, French and Thai food. She would be very happy to teach you the recipes that she cooks too!

We are a thirty something couple who got married in May 2013. For our honeymoon we went around Italy with Airbnb! Between us, we speak, as our first languages, English and Czech, and also from an intermediate to advanced level, Italian, Slovak, French and Russian. We have traveled to over 40 countries between us, last year saw us in Mali, Morocco, Gambia and Senegal, the previous travelling from our Czech second home to Istanbul by rail.

Alice is a freelance opera director and theatre writer/director, with mixed Irish-English-American heritage who mostly runs her own theatre company Wonderland Theatre. If you're interested she can tell you a fair bit about Irish history, writing and culture from her various theatre projects on the topic - one of which, an audio walk of James Joyce's Dubliners is on in Dublin daily. Radek is originally from South Bohemia and now has his own pottery studio in Phibsborough Touch Design Ceramics, which you are very welcome to visit.

Our other interests would be travel, all things cultural - after all we met in the Hugh Lane Art Gallery in Dublin, beach and mountain walks, opera and classical music, reading, movies and cycling.

We welcome long term guests and have had some guests stay with us for over a month. Many of these guests have been moving to a new life in Dublin and we've really enjoyed helping them settle in and find permanent accommodation - and best of all are delighted to have made new friends in Dublin!

We've included gym/hotub/sauna/steamroom in our listing as Alice is a member of the local gym at the Living Well Kilmainham (which is 5 minutes away) and can bring you there for free once as her guest.

If we're free and you can text us to confirm your flight is on time, we're willing to pick you up or drop you at the airport for an additional €40 cash, plus short term car park fees (currently €3/hour) if we need to use it.

Thanks for reading our listing and we hope to welcome you to our home and city soon.

Guest access

Guests have access to our whole home bar our bedroom of course. We encourage you to make you feel very at home whilst you are here.

Interaction with guests

We love to chat to our guests and very much look forward to sharing our home with them and helping them to make the very best of our city and country. However as we do often work from home privacy during working hours is appreciated, just so we can get our work done! Our flat has two bedrooms and we two live in one and our guests in the other.

We had a very pleasant stay. Alice And Radek were not present but they were very easy to join, they answered quickly and made everything go right. We got the keys easily. The house is clean and sweet, it's a pleasure to sit on the balcony and the bed is really confortable. This is a wonderful place to stay in Dublin.

Alice and Radek were very accommodating. Alice helped coordinate airport transportation with "Taxi Jimmy", and he was an absolute delight. He's a proud Irishman who told us so much about where to go and it was a trip just listening to him. Loved it. The room is fine. Their little apartment is very clean and loved the neighborhood. Just about a mile walk to the tram station through safe community.

Alice and Radek are very welcoming and very experienced hosts – they will take good care of you for sure. The place itself is unique and beautiful, and though the pictures kind of oversold it for me, it is, however, still a very clean and comfortable place. It's in a quiet location some distance from the city centre, which is great for some people – and is surrounded by beautiful parks that are wonderful to stroll through. Taking the bus can possibly be a challenge due to the walking, waiting and weather – but it's a fair tradeoff to be surrounded by nature and to live in such a lovely place.

I really enjoyed my stay with Alice and Radek, the location is perfect for those that like to be a little outside the confines of Dublin city without feeling too far away dues to ease of access via, Dublin Bike, Luas or Bus. The beauty of the Phoenix park and near by war memorial park and river liffey make this location perfect for anyone that likes to walk or go for a run and explore the great outdoors. Kilmainham Gaol is a short walk away . This is a very peaceful spot and Alice and Radek were both very welcoming and friendly . I would definitely come and stay again and recommend to a friend.

I had the opportunity to stay at Alice's place and had a great time. While I didn't have the opportunity to meet Radek, Alice was a pleasant host happy to give any and all help navigating the city. The residence was pleasant and cozy. For those traveling around Dublin, it's easy to get around from where they live and it's a great opportunity to get acquainted with places outside of Dublin. As a first time air-bnb'er, I feel extremely lucky to have landed a great clean residence with such a lovely host and hope to strike a similar combination in the future. Highly recommend!!!

In a word - Charming. The location, the apartment, our hosts. All were charming. Our hosts were very welcoming and helpful in getting us oriented and settled. It didn't take long to figure out the transportation available to us and how to use it - bus, tram and rail. The location was a little out from city center which was both pro and con. Pro because it was quiet and secluded. Con because we had to use public transportation to go anywhere. But then that was part of the excitement of the challenge. Within walking distance was one of the premier tourist sites, the Kilmainham Gaol, as well as parks, museums and the train station. A few blocks away was a bus stop which could take you anywhere. I would recommend Alice and Radek's place to anyone wanting a special place to stay in Dublin.

Married in 2013 Alice and Radek are a couple in their late thirties and parents to two little twins Max and Sofia. Radek is originally from the Czech Republic and is a potter who loves to work with porcelain. His pottery is Touch Design Ceramics check out- touchdesignceramics. Alice is a theatre and opera director with Irish/English/American heritage who runs her own company in Dublin Wonderland Productions - wonderlandtheatre, whose work includes literary audio walks of James Joyce's Dublin, children's theatre workshops and dinner theatre. She is also a qualified cook and loves to experiment with all the foods of the world and cook for our guests!

In our spare time we love all things cultural and are very involved in the Dublin arts world and actually met by chance in a Dublin art gallery. We also enjoy hillwalking, movies, fine living, fun times and above all travel!

Between us we must have traveled 50 countries, and together have traveled from Prague to Istanbul together by train, from Gambia to Mali, all over Ireland and the Czech Republic, and for our recent honeymoon went around Italy with airbnb and enjoyed six wonderful stays with Italian families. So we know both what it is to host and to be a guest on airbnb!

We may also be able to offer you individual pottery or cookery classes with us during your stay, and you're also very welcome to visit Radek's pottery and to learn how pottery is made.

We love being guests and hosts Airbnb so much that the the Irish Media got in contact with us, and one interview has led to another and we've been having a great time. Look us up 'listen again links' on radio shows RTE 1 Morning Ireland, Today FM Business Show on a Sunday or in newspapers Irish Independent and Daily Mail. The gorgeous pictures of us on our profile were taken by Stephen from the Irish Independent at our home.
