The Space

Welcome to your Dublin home from home!

We'd like to invite you to enjoy as much cozy luxury, peace, interesting conversation, fun, home cooking and pleasure, as we have always enjoyed, as guests of Airbnb hosts, in our happy travels with Airbnb worldwide.

You will love our ex-show apartment in on an island in the middle of the River Liffey. It is part of a converted Georgian mill complex, and is furnished with our family antiques and treasures, which date from the English Jacobean period onwards, and, after a wet Dublin day, a great pleasure awaits you - a soak in our large jacuzzi bath.

The feeling in our sunny apartment, is like one of being in the countryside, as it enjoys panoramic views across the River Liffey Weir and the open parkland of Dublin's War Memorial Gardens and the Phoenix Park, whilst still being only a mile from Dublin's buzzing City Centre. It also has high speed WIFI.

Your snug little guest room is 8 x 11 feet and also has its own large desk, WIFI, safe, CD radio, TV, DVD player, and a double sofa bed, in addition to the actual soft single bed.

You will find that you are a mere 5 minute walk from top tourist attractions Kilmainham Gaol, Irish Museum of Modern Art and 15 minutes walk to the Guinness Brewery. You can also go for long walks up the river to the historic village of Chapelizod for a pub lunch or into the Phoenix Park, as we often do, for a long walk or run.

You will be staying roughly 1 mile from the city centre which is a 5 minute bus ride, a 10 minute cycle or 40 minute walk away. You are on multiple bus routes, or 18 minutes walk from the red LUAS tram/ main airport bus 747/national rail station at Heuston which serves Cork, Kerry, Waterford and Limerick lines. From Heuston you take the tram into the city in 5 minutes, or you can cycle from us into the city in 15 minutes, if you want to live like a local! You are also 8 minutes from the M50/N4 junction (Dublin's main ring road) by car and 25 minutes drive from the airport. There is free parking in the park beside our home.

Alice is a passionate cook, and qualified at Cook's Academy Dublin last year, so she would warmly invite you to share our candlelit dinner with us for an extra €10 cash a night, lunch is €8.She can cook classical Irish, British, Italian, French and Thai food. She would be very happy to teach you the recipes that she cooks too!

We are a thirty something couple who got married in May 2013. For our honeymoon we went around Italy with Airbnb! Between us, we speak, as our first languages, English and Czech, and also from an intermediate to advanced level, Italian, Slovak, French and Russian. We have traveled to over 40 countries between us, last year saw us in Mali, Morocco, Gambia and Senegal, the previous travelling from our Czech second home to Istanbul by rail.

Alice is a freelance opera director and theatre writer/director, with mixed Irish-English-American heritage who mostly runs her own theatre company Wonderland Theatre. If you're interested she can tell you a fair bit about Irish history, writing and culture from her various theatre projects on the topic - one of which, an audio walk of James Joyce's Dubliners is on in Dublin daily. Radek is originally from South Bohemia and now has his own pottery studio in Phibsborough Touch Design Ceramics, which you are very welcome to visit.

Our other interests would be travel, all things cultural - after all we met in the Hugh Lane Art Gallery in Dublin, beach and mountain walks, opera and classical music, reading, movies and cycling.

A breakfast of cereals, home made jams, breads and tea/coffee etc is included in the price.

The bedroom in this listing can also accommodate a second person on the pull out sofa bed or on a single air mattress on the floor, but it's very snug, which is why we only charge the less than a night in a hostel for a second person with breakfast.

If a couple would like to stay with us, please see our other listing for our double bedroom, stays are for 3 nights or longer - as we need to move into our snug guest bedroom. Just click on our profile to find it.

We welcome long term guests and have had some guests stay with us for over a month. Many of these guests have been moving to a new life in Dublin and we've really enjoyed helping them settle in and find permanent accommodation - and best of all are delighted to have made new friends in Dublin!

We've included gym/hotub/sauna/steamroom in our listing as Alice is a member of the local gym at the Living Well Kilmainham (which is 5 minutes away) and can bring you there for free once as her guest.

If we're free and you can text us to confirm your flight is on time, we're willing to pick you up or drop you at the airport for an additional €25 cash, plus short term car park fees (currently €3/hour) if we need to use it. This is less than a taxi and we've started to offer this to be sure our foreign guests are no longer cheated by drivers.

Thanks for reading our listing and we hope to welcome you to our home and city soon.

Guest Access

Our whole home bar our bedroom. We encourage you to make you feel very at home.

Interaction with Guests

We love to chat to our guests and very much look forward to sharing our home with them and helping them to make the very best of our city and country. Our flat has two bedrooms and we two live in one and our guests in the other.

The Neighborhood

Our home is in the middle of the biggest urban park in Europe so we love the feeling of being in the midst of nature whilst being so close to the city. From our window we can see the River Liffey Weir and all the water birds nesting and feeding. It is very peaceful here, even though the city centre is only a mile away.

Famous tourist attractions Kilmainham Gaol, where the leaders of the 1916 rising were executed, and the Irish Museum of Modern Art, the War Memorial Gardens and the Phoneix Park are all within a 5 minute walk of our home. The Guinness Brewery and Museum of Decorative Arts are 15 minutes walk away.

  • We booked our stay quite last minute, but were able to share various messages with Alice and Radek ahead of time to ensure all was settled and in place. We were greeted very nicely by a neighbor who let us in and showed us around. All seemed well until it came time to actually get some sleep. The space is advertised as being quite small, so we had expected tight quarters, which they were - be sure to review the dimensions listed. Our disappointment however came from the quality of the beds themselves and the bedding - particularly from a listing that advertises itself as "luxury". The single bed had a mattress which was so worn it felt as though you were almost being swallowed up when you laid down on it. The double, pull out, sofa bed was actually unable to completely extend due to the small size of the room. When lying down, my wife who is of average size, was left with her legs hanging off the end from about mid-calf. Additionally, the sofa bed has a junction across the center due to how it pulls out. The junction is very hard and noticeable while you lie there, leaving you feel there is a bar in your hip throughout the night. Additionally, the bedding was extremely worn and the pillows were very flat. Overall we were quite disappointed in the quality we received for the price paid. If you're two people, this room is simply too small. If you're one person, considering the price, you can find something more comfortable.

  • We enjoyed our brief stay with Alice and Radek. Alice was very helpful with her guidance and recommendations. Their home is lovely and the views are fantastic. The Irish War Memorial Park is practically in their back yard!

  • Another wonderful experience staying with them! They are always very accommodating and super helpful. I look forward to visiting Dublin again and staying with them!

  • This was my first time using AirBnB so I was not quite sure what to expect, however Alice and Radek made it a really great introduction to Air BnB. They were helpful, friendly and they made me feel completely welcome in their home.

Their apartment was exactly as advertised and in a lovely area.

  • I had a wonderful stay with Alice and Radek! They were both very friendly and welcoming. The room was cozy, and you have a great view from it! I recommend them to anyone going to Dublin, and I look forward to staying with them again when I return next month.

  • Staying at Alice and Radek home is like staying at your own home. They've put a lot of effort to make my stay an enjoyable experience.
Location is lovely, the view from their window is not something you can get easily in Dublin. The furnishing is really well done and you can spend a day just looking at all the details.
I had a great dinner cooked by Alice (despite her being very busy with her exams) and a nice chatty evening, I am only sorry that I could not have spent more time with them but I'll try to make it out next time.
Radek made me visit his pottery laboratory and I was amazed by his skills and dedication.
I wish them the best possible for their future projects.

  • Great location. Lovely home. Unfortunately I only met Radek briefly before he had to fly to England to join Alice the next morning which meant I had the place to myself although in a place like Dublin where there's so much to see and do I was only there to crash at night and up and out first thing in the morning!

There were plenty of buses a 2 minute walk away (a Leap Card might be a good idea for longer stays) going into the city (about 15-20 mins) and the first day it was a nice, although somewhat long, walk along the river to the city, good to get the bearings straight.

Radek was very kind and patient considering I'd been given bad directions from a couple of locals (I should have trusted what (website hidden) said) and came up to meet me at the main road when I'd become too confused and showed me the way!

I'd definitely recommend here! And I would definitely recommend Dublin! But I should have booked a whole week!!

  • We had a nice visit in Dublin at the apartment with Radek (Alice was away). The location was perfect for us----as we were starting our tour at the Killmainham Gaol, and were enjoying the beautiful weather at Phoenix Park. Radek was great about hopping home from work in order to meet with us, show us the apartment, and give us a key. We were out late, but he was flexible with our schedule and our usage of the shared bathroom and kitchen. The apartment was probably not spacious enough for the two of us to stay longer than one night, but they had explained the bedroom space in advance, so we were fine with that. I LOVE his pottery!
