About This Listing
If you are looking for a very private, truly off grid experience please scroll down and check out what we offer you. We are delighted that our PADMA Yurt re-treat was featured on UNIS TV in 2014 as one of the most unique places in B.C. Canada.
Our Yurt PADMA is a haven for anyone who would like to experience a peaceful, sustainable vacation. We are pleased to offer a serene environment with a spectacular ocean, mountain and sunset view. Our artisan-built, timber-framed, yurt platform and wrap around deck is situated on a moss bluff. It is surrounded by large Douglas Fir and Western Cedar trees. Our handmade furniture and simple living designs will surely enhance your experience.
We speak English and German. We offer locally made preserves and fresh in-season organic produce. On-site gardening workshops, nature walks and an abundance of clean air will enhance your rest and (website hidden)-charge yourself with PADMA.
Organic choices for you and the environment.
PADMA is located on Cortes Island, British Columbia, and is well known for its many stunning beaches, gigantic forests, and a vibrant community. There are many awe inspiring beaches and lagoons where you can collect oysters and cook them on a fire. We can facilitate wildlife walks and set you up with several ocean and land adventure tours. There is plenty to see and do here on the island and a vehicle is highly recommended. We can facilitate transportation if requested.
We call our 12 acre property “Greenland” and we believe in composting, organic gardening and most of all healthy bees. Our home is located in the valley and PADMA sits on the bluff with its own access road. Our cultivated land is very enchanting, green and lush with flowers growing out of enormous stumps. Two vegetable gardens provide an abundance of tasty produce. Our orchard has old established
fruit trees and berries.
Think luxury, remote and camping, three words which you might not bring together easily.
Breathe clean air, eat organic in-season produce, rest, read, listen to real silence, be aware of the environment and of nature itself. Catch a glimpse of bald eagles, hear the night sounds of barred owls. Experience sustainable living with us.
Handmade double bed with cotton bedding, blankets, duvet, pillows, mosquito net, towels, functional kitchen with water, Fisher wood burning stove, skylight dome, natural solar sky arch lighting, kerosene lantern, candles. There is no electricity at the yurt, but we can facilitate with our re-charging station.
Located in the rainforest of Beautiful British Columbia our yurt PADMA offers peace, tranquility and privacy.
Set on a bluff our yurt platform was hand crafted with wood harvested from our property. This structure is raised 8 feet off the ground and the large deck offers ocean, mountain and stunning sunset view. The sound of bird song in the trees, white tailed deer passing by on their daily route, warm dappled light falling through the forest canopy onto the mossy rocks gives this secluded spot a unique atmosphere in which to unwind and relax.
Sleeping in a yurt is a truly magical experience. With stars shining through the dome there will be no need for television. Chop wood, carry water. Our wood burning stove will keep you cozy and our spacious yurt with all its handmade furniture has a special rustic charm as well a basic level of comfort not normally associated with camping. There is a composting toilet (yes – it’s perfectly pleasant to use).
Our facilities are simple and meet the needs of our guests.

About Cortes Island:
Cortes Island is situated at the northern end of the Salish Sea (Strait of Georgia), on Canada’s west coast, between Vancouver Island and the British Columbia mainland.
Approximately 25 km long and 13 km wide, Cortes is a small paradise, and is known for its abundant wildlife and delicious shellfish. A home for artists, families and homesteaders.
Cortes is home to Hollyhock, Canada’s leading educational retreat centre, world-renowned for life-long learning and skills development programs.
PADMA Yurt re-treat offers an off grid experience with lots of nature and privacy. We offer fresh organic produce from our production garden.
Interaction with Guests
We believe in privacy. Our guests have there own acre and we do not enter their space in that time. We installed a station with a communication board next to our main driveway, where our guests can leave messages and requests for us. We are always open for questions and are more than happy to help our guests as they wish.
Cortes is a small versatile community and people live very different lifestyles. You'l meet lots of artists, farmers and nature enthusiasts.
PADMA Yurt re-treat is located in walking distance to one of the most gorgeous hiking trails on the island.
Local Events in 2015:
Oyster Fest May 16
Cortes Day July 18
Sand Castle Day Aug 16
There is no public transportation on Cortes Island. We recommend to have a vehicle, although hitch-hiking is quite popular, safe and very common here on the Island.
Other Things to Note
Make sure to plan enough time for the ferry sailing, since there is always the chance of overloads.
There is only one rule: Please enjoy your time, inhale super fresh air and charge your batteries.
Smile, Breathe and Go Slowly
Such a good place. The yurt is raised on a platform with a long view out through the forest to the sea channel beyond. It's quiet and secluded, but it's also well-designed, with anything anyone might want to hand, including a good gas stove and pans.
Our stay at Padma was amazing. We didn't want to leave! The living space is extremely well designed, well-maintained and clean. We love the consciousness and care that went into the construction, the use of reclaimed materials, and the simple rhythms of life that this place evokes. Plus the location is incredible, with an old growth rainforest preserve right next door ready to explore. Inga and Natasha were great hosts, very friendly and approachable while leaving us to do our own thing. THIS is what we call five star accommodation.
Padma Yurt is our favourite place in the Gulf Islands. For anyone who appreciates well-designed space in a secluded setting, Padma will be a dream come true. It's also a gift to live lightly on the earth while on holiday, and the systems in place make it possible to do so. The hosts are inspiring and thoughtful, and have great message centre set up so you can see them as much or as little as you need. The fresh vegetables and home made jam are fantastic. Fall asleep to hooting owls, do yoga on the deck, and take advantage of the solitude at Brigitte's Beach or the warm waters of Hague Lake. Highly recommended.
Inga and Natasha's yurt far exceeded all of our expectations! It's so beautifully done - we both actually gasped when we walked through the door and saw how lovely it is inside. It's almost like a beautifully curated installation - full of nice touches like vintage tins and lavender scented linen closet. It's set in the most lovely property that's incredibly peaceful and relaxing. We loved sitting on the deck and watching the local deer come to munch on the bushes around the yurt, seeing the lovely sunsets over the bay, just visible through the trees and enjoying the fire in the stove inside in the evenings.
We were sad to leave and can't wait to return!
Igna and Natasha have a stunning location and the yurt is lovely. They were friendly, helpful, accommodating and the garden veggies we had were delicious. The Children's Forest is within walking distance and the trails are stunning. Great hosts, beautiful place. Would highly recommend!
About the Host, Inga+Natasha
Live simply, so that others may simply live!
We share and trade. Trading is long forgotten, but it feels so nice to exchange different work abilities and anyway, you can’t eat money. Our main goal is living off and with the land. We grow a lot of organic food to sustain ourselves. We are always preserving, freezing and dehydrating food for the winter. We eat so well that we feel healthy and are not often sick . We are finding so much joy when we reduce, recycle and reclaim. Creating new art which was art before and before that too. Our aim is looking close everyday, at what really matters. To share our passion we created the sustain yourself society.
PADMA Yurt re-treat has brought many great people, who all seem to appreciate what we offer. It has been a wonderful experience for us to host.
