Welcome to Casa Amanecer!
A full-service Bed and Breakfast in the lovely little town of San Ramon, Alajuela, Costa Rica.We invite the Costa Rican traveler into our teak and concrete abode, nestled in the beautiful coffee-planted mountains just ten minutes north of San Ramon.
The name “Casa Amanecer” means “Sunrise House”. The rustic modern structure (published in architecture magazine Su Casa, March 2009) faces east, where amazing sunrises may be taken in, along with the breath-taking panoramic view of the mountains.
Come relax, hook up to Wi-fi, peruse our library and get a taste of the best that Costa Rica has to offer. We offer vegetarian meals and unique tour packages. (Meat dishes served upon request.)
It is our belief that one can live comfortably while at the same time care for our Earth. We at Casa Amanecer are very conscious of our health and our environment.
We are looking forward to hosting you!
You have access to a nice, peaceful covered veranda just off of your room with private entrance. Our guests enjoy sitting here and enjoying the mountain view while they have breakfast or relax during the day with a book. You also have access to the living area with a comfy sofa, lending library and souvenirs.
Interaction with Guests
Our good friend and associate Helen and staff will receive you and make you feel right at home. They love to converse with you and give you travel suggestions. Their first language is Spanish, so feel free to practice with them!
We are located in the small, rural neighborhood of San Juan, just 5 minutes northeast of San Ramon. It's peaceful and the climate is pleasant all year round.
We are just a one-minute walk to the bus. A taxi ride to town takes about 5 minutes and costs $5.
Smoking is not permitted in the room or on the property.
Breakfast is served between 8:00 and 9:00 each morning. If you would like an earlier breakfast, please let us know. Coffee and tea can be found on the veranda at 7:00 am. Please help yourself!
When showering, please use the "cold water" knob on right to activate the on-demand heater. Higher flow: cooler water. Lower flow: warmer water. Most toilet paper goes in the waste basket. Please use discretion.
SHEETS AND TOWELS
Please let us know when you would like to have your sheets and towels washed. Please refrain from using towels to clean shoes, or otherwise soiling them. For your convenience, rags are located on the shelf under the sink.
SECURITY AND VALUABLES
If you have valuables that you would like to keep safe, we are happy to place them in our strong box. It is best to close windows, lower blinds and lock your door when you venture out. Don't forget to take the keys.
Wireless internet is available throughout the house. It is called "d-link" and is strongest on the veranda and in the living room. There is no password. You can also connect via ethernet under the desk. Let us know if you need a cable.
You are welcome to use our phone in the living room to make brief local calls within Costa Rica. If you would like to make an international call, you may use a calling card, which may be purchased at many supermarkets or pharmacies in town.

• Please give room keys to Chris, Luisa or staff upon check-out.
Helen was the perfect host! Immediately upon arriving at the delightful and spacious home just far enough from the city of San Ramon, Helen made us feel at home. We truly could not have asked for a better host. Helen gave us great ideas about places in the area to visit. Her homemade, fresh breakfasts were among the best we had in Costa Rica. Our room was a great size, as was as the bathroom, which was beautifully decorated. We can't wait to return to Costa Rica and enjoy la Pura Vida at Casa Amanecer once again!
Helena was wonderful, had some difficulty finding it on the first try. Room was decent size with an amazing view. Breakfast was great and Helena was extremely informative. Had a great time.
Casa Amenecer is a true gem, we loved the secluded spot on a hill. It was such a relaxing and friendly place. They welcomed us like we were great friends. We picked up our friends at the airport from there and it was a perfect place for them to relax after the trip, and the food they served us was an amazing, huge costa rican meal. Thank you so much for a great time and for teaching us about how friendly and beautiful this country is.
Amanecer is a lovely little B&B. The rooms are just the right size, the view is excellent, and everything is kept very clean. Helena makes everyone feel at home, and her cooking is fantastic - you'll be well fed at breakfast or for any other meal you request!
As with anywhere in Costa Rica and particularly in San Ramón, there are some things to be aware of. The local dogs will bark, roosters crow, and getting around without a car is difficult. If they offer to drive you from the airport, I'd suggest taking them up on it as finding your way by public transit is quite difficult. That's really the only negative feedback I have, and none of that is really the fault of Amanecer.
Bottom line: if you're looking for somewhere to stay in the San Ramón area, this is the nicest spot.
We spent ten nights at Casa Amanecer and loved it! My husband and two daughters had such a wonderful time and enjoyed our stay. Helen and her crew were wonderful! My girls still talk about the wonderful fruit and breakfasts they were served.
Christopher has created a little piece of heaven in the paradise that is Costa Rica. The setting is incredible, the amenities are flawless, the B&B design and decor are at par with a 5 star resort in the US. It was easy to get to (with signs every few hundred yards) but very hard to leave :). Oh, and Helen was the most accommodating and gracious of hosts and her homemade breakfast (including the organic, home grown coffee) was delicious.
This was the perfect end to a dream vacation in Costa Rica
The place was totally amazing, we had a really great stay at the Casa Amenacer. Christopher was very fast when we ask question via e-mail, and help us to have nice vacation there.
Helen, the host, was really friendly and is doing wonderfull breakfast ( I'll like the morning rice :) soooo much ! ). The place is very quiet, well place and is a real nice home build on top of small hill. In the morning you will enjoy the sun over the hills of San Ramone.
I really don't hesitate to recommand the Christopher house's. We will certainly return there when we will return in Costa Rica
Merci beaucoup Christopher, Merci beaucoup Helen, it was perfect !
Owners Luisa Valdivia, from Peru, and Christopher Panzer, from the US, come from diverse backgrounds, both geographically and culturally. Having found each other on the land-bridge of Central America, it was decided that Costa Rica would be their middle ground, the place they would call their home and raise their children. And as diverse as their backgrounds are, their individual approaches to life transcend many of their cultural differences. Their outlook on life, their desire to live simply and sustainably, has created the basis for their co-existence and laid the foundation for what they foresee as a long, adventurous life together, along with their two young children, Lucas and Fiona.
