The Space

Welcome to Casa Amanecer!

A full-service Bed and Breakfast in the lovely little town of San Ramon, Alajuela, Costa Rica.We invite the Costa Rican traveler into our teak and concrete abode, nestled in the beautiful coffee-planted mountains just ten minutes north of San Ramon.

The name “Casa Amanecer” means “Sunrise House”. The rustic modern structure (published in architecture magazine Su Casa, March 2009) faces east, where amazing sunrises may be taken in, along with the breath-taking panoramic view of the mountains.

Come relax, hook up to Wi-fi, peruse our library and get a taste of the best that Costa Rica has to offer. We offer vegetarian meals and unique tour packages. (Meat dishes served upon request.)

It is our belief that one can live comfortably while at the same time care for our Earth. We at Casa Amanecer are very conscious of our health and our environment.

We are looking forward to hosting you!

  • Amanecer is a lovely little B&B. The rooms are just the right size, the view is excellent, and everything is kept very clean. Helena makes everyone feel at home, and her cooking is fantastic - you'll be well fed at breakfast or for any other meal you request!

As with anywhere in Costa Rica and particularly in San Ramón, there are some things to be aware of. The local dogs will bark, roosters crow, and getting around without a car is difficult. If they offer to drive you from the airport, I'd suggest taking them up on it as finding your way by public transit is quite difficult. That's really the only negative feedback I have, and none of that is really the fault of Amanecer.

Bottom line: if you're looking for somewhere to stay in the San Ramón area, this is the nicest spot.

  • We spent ten nights at Casa Amanecer and loved it! My husband and two daughters had such a wonderful time and enjoyed our stay. Helen and her crew were wonderful! My girls still talk about the wonderful fruit and breakfasts they were served.

  • Christopher has created a little piece of heaven in the paradise that is Costa Rica. The setting is incredible, the amenities are flawless, the B&B design and decor are at par with a 5 star resort in the US. It was easy to get to (with signs every few hundred yards) but very hard to leave :). Oh, and Helen was the most accommodating and gracious of hosts and her homemade breakfast (including the organic, home grown coffee) was delicious.

This was the perfect end to a dream vacation in Costa Rica

  • The place was totally amazing, we had a really great stay at the Casa Amenacer. Christopher was very fast when we ask question via e-mail, and help us to have nice vacation there.

Helen, the host, was really friendly and is doing wonderfull breakfast ( I'll like the morning rice :) soooo much ! ). The place is very quiet, well place and is a real nice home build on top of small hill. In the morning you will enjoy the sun over the hills of San Ramone.

I really don't hesitate to recommand the Christopher house's. We will certainly return there when we will return in Costa Rica

Merci beaucoup Christopher, Merci beaucoup Helen, it was perfect !

  • Once you get there it is very nice, we got here at night and to wake up to the view was amazing.
The rooms are very clean and the service excellent.
Biggest downfall is location, it was very hard to find since no street names are to be found in San Ramon.

  • We had a great stay at Christopher's place. Helen, the host, was extremely friendly and very welcoming. The place is beautiful and one of the better built homes you will find in Costa Rica, located in the hills by San Ramon, with a fantastic view of sunrises. Breakfast was quite good and tea and coffee are always available. This was the most serene place we stayed at on our Costa Rica trip, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone staying in the San Ramon area.

  • Wowwww! What nice coffee. Organically made right there. And our hostess, Elena, was real freindly and hospitable.

  • A relaxing, quiet, and beautiful place to stay outside of San Ramon.

  • Helen was the best hostess I have encountered anywhere. After a long day of travel, we decided to stay at Casa Amanecer before heading to La Fortuna in the morning. When we arrived, Helen offered to make us dinner instead of us having to go back into town and find something to eat... We took her up on the offer and received one of our favorite meals during our entire trip - spaghetti from scratch with a nice white wine. Certainly unexpected but much appreciated. Breakfast was incredible. The place was quiet, clean, beautiful, and Helen was very friendly.

We enjoyed Casa Amanecer so much on our first night that we decided to make it our place to stay on our final night of our trip as well. Simply wonderful.

  • I had a great overnight stay at Casa Amenecer in San Jose. The staff was friendly and warm, the accommodations were very nice, the price was great, and the breakfast was delicious (especially the black bean empanadas). In fact, I liked my visit so well that I booked the place again on my way out of Costa Rica!

Owners Luisa Valdivia, from Peru, and Christopher Panzer, from the US, come from diverse backgrounds, both geographically and culturally. Having found each other on the land-bridge of Central America, it was decided that Costa Rica would be their middle ground, the place they would call their home and raise their children. And as diverse as their backgrounds are, their individual approaches to life transcend many of their cultural differences. Their outlook on life, their desire to live simply and sustainably, has created the basis for their co-existence and laid the foundation for what they foresee as a long, adventurous life together, along with their two young children, Lucas and Fiona.
