The Space

Lovely home and garden in Maxwell Park district of Oakland, near Mills College, Fruitvale Bart, Oakland Airport, the Oakland Coliseum, and Alameda.

This Craftsman home is clean and comfortable. Spacious, art-filled living room with working fireplace; bright dining room that also houses an extensive vinyl collection; large dream kitchen (fully loaded) with a built-in custom kitchen table. Clawfoot tub in redone bathroom also offers tall shower with great water pressure. Idyllic back yard with wisteria-covered large patio, deck off kitchen, picnic table, raised beds, seven different kinds of fruit trees, two coops (houses for three chickens and four ducks), duck swimming pool, flowers and freestanding garage. Front guest bedroom (yours) features opium bed (sleeps one), closet space, bureau, open space for stretching; tall, north-facing windows keep it light but not hot. Wireless internet, cable TV (plus PS3, Wii/Fit) in living room. Washer and dryer in kitchen and fresh eggs daily. Home also to my Catahoula pup, Ida.

The neighborhood is quiet and friendly. Residential, sweet for taking walks or going on runs. Fruitvale Bart is 1.2 miles away (quick cab ride). My house and neighborhood are best suited to those with a car: Oak Airport, Coliseum, Alameda are all only 10 minutes away. Mills College, Old Weang Ping (Best Thai restaurant ever), Full House (great breakfast spot), and Farmer Joe's are all only 5 minutes away! And if you love taco trucks, you'll be in heaven. Plenty of easy street parking.

Guest Access

Guests have access to the living room (fireplace, reading chair, tv with cable and PS3 and AppleTV); dining room (extensive LP collection); kitchen (fully loaded, fresh eggs, coffee and tea, and any particularities you'd like...just let me know), washer and dryer; large back yard with sunny deck, shaded patio, ducks and chickens; bathroom with claw foot tub/shower.

Interaction with Guests

I have a flexible work schedule. I'm generally home until late morning. On days that I work I am gone during the late morning/afternoon. I'm home some evenings and out some. While I'm home, I am often cooking or gardening: quiet activities. Whatever your needs, I'm happy to accommodate.

  • Christina's place was exactly what i needed. Her whole house is designed with great flair and wit, but it's also peaceful. Just the right balance of privacy (very quiet room) and friendliness. When i mentioned i was getting over a cold, she offered me an array of supplements and teas. In fact everything in her pantry was available to me, including the freshly baked banana bread. I was really touched by her generosity. The dog was very sweet also. My only regret was that i had some urgent business to take care of in the morning which prevented me from chatting with her the next day. She kindly respected my need to work and wrote down exquisitely clear directions to get me to my next destination.

  • Christina and her adorable pup Ida were wonderful in every way! My entire experience was an absolute joy. My adventure started arriving to her quiet, serene neighborhood, followed by being introduced to a lovely room w/ a very comfy bed. Christina even added a topper to the mattress which made me fall faster into dreamland :)

Her house is beautiful, clean, full of yummy treats w/ an enchanting backyard flowing w/ nature!

I would highly recommend staying w/ Christina as I'm sure you will be over the moon as I was about the entire experience. She is definitely a gracious hostess w/ the mostess!

  • Christina is possibly the nicest AirBnB hostess I've ever run into (and I've already met quite a few very nice ones!). She is a diligent communicator and I always felt prepared. In addition, upon arrival, she couldn't have been more kind and lovely. Her home is cool and comfortable with a nice amount of common space in a gorgeous Craftsman. She has chickens & ducks (and usually fresh eggs from both), as well as a super sweet doggie named Ida. Christina is charming and helpful, but never overbearing and seems to really enjoy being a host. The room itself is quiet and near the front door, so you don't feel like you're disturbing anyone as you come & go. I would recommend Christina's room to anyone -- she's fantastic!

    Response from Christina:

Thanks! This is terrific feedback; gonna shop for a mattress topper this week, that way it will be more flexible for those who like a soft top which can be taken off for those who like it firm. Glad you slept okay and thanks for taking the time to let me know how I can make it even better.

  • I enjoyed my stay with Christina, the house was exactly as posted. Further more, I really love the hill view overlooking San Francisco Bay while driving the neighborhood. Christina is a multifaceted person. I learned that she owns a yarn shop carrying qualIty, high fashion items. I couldn't resist getting some. By the way, the fresh chicken andI duck eggs I left with were a treat for both my husband and myself. Christina was canning jam a few times during my stay, now I am motivaved to try. Thank you Christina for your hospitality.

    Response from Christina:

Thanks Madeleine! Let me know how your jams turn out!

  • I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Christina's beautiful home. She is a very gracious host who made me feel very welcome. The guest bed is unique in design and quite comfortable, though perhaps a tad on the narrow side. I also liked meeting the chickens and ducks in her back garden. I highly recommend a stay with Christina!

  • This was my fourth stay with Christina. When I arrived, there were several little things that we'd talked about last time that she had done to make my stay even more comfortable and pleasant. What can I say? I just love her! I already have my next trip planned.

Yarn peddler by day, DJ by night. (Not every day, and not every night) My home is full of art and records and yarn and my kitchen is fully, fully stocked. My backyard is amazing, a little wild, and home to my three chickens and four ducks. Yes, that means fresh eggs every day. I'm a knitwear designer and I own a yarn shop (11 years now), so when I'm not playing records in the evenings, I'm knitting. And probably cooking. A seasonal runner (read: weather wimp). I use the gym, no treadmill in the house, love to run in my neighborhood. Book nerd, novice gardener, hobby enthusiast, pseudo-urban farmer, music lover, putter-upper.
