Just spent the night here at Joe's place. What a cute place. It's a lot of stairs but worth the climb. Joe was AWESOME. He gave us directions around the city, was super friendly and has a laugh that rocks! Thanks for a nice place to rest our heads.
It was a pleasure to stay in Joe's room. It wasn't big, but it was big enough, and had everything I needed ready to hand -- a big fluffy towel, iron & ironing board, desk, wifi, hangers in a real closet, an assortment of phone chargers, with a powerful A/C and a locking door. Joe was eager to help, responded to messages instantly, and even humped my heavy bag up the stairs. Two subway stations were just a block away, with major bus lines even closer.
My wife and I had a pretty good experience staying at Joe's for 3 nights earlier this June.
Joe was very helpful in terms of suggesting things to do; very enthusiastic about making bookings for us in order to secure spots :) He helped us heave our luggage up the stairs too! The room was well stocked with guidebooks and the likes, maps, coupons etc (handy stuff), but on the flipside it was incredibly tiny, which is something we weren't expecting. It would behoove a future guest to know about the 5 flights of stairs beforehand!
Grocery stores and thrifty places to eat as well as Subway stations are pretty close by, so it's fairly convenient to find your way around Manhattan from Joe's place.
Joe was kind enough to restock his kitchen with our preferred cereal and is a pretty interesting guy. We'd recommend staying at Joe's to those with limited luggage and those looking for an earthy experience of New York City!
I had a decent experience staying with Joe for two days. He was very helpful and enthusiastic about helping my mom and myself with our bags. I was a little thrown with how many steps we had to take, to get up to the apartment. I thought the neighborhood would be a lot cleaner than what was pictured however, it was not. But the neighborhood was full of nice helpful people. Joe was extremely helpful in showing us how to get to certain subways as it was our first time in New York. Although, I wish I knew before hand how small the space was.
Joe is a gracious host and the accommodations are comfy and convenient to the Metro. Great place for parents of City College students to visit the campus, as it is walking distance. Big thumbs up!
Joe is friendly and welcoming. The place is clean, the bed is comfortable, the air conditioning and wifi work. It's close to several subway lines.
This is my first time come to New York,
I was think the area is not safe, a little bit worry about it... but it is a Safe area! there are two Big supermarkets, or maybe all you need is coffee in the morning there's a Starbucks, not far just walk two or one blocks.
If wanna go out very late, that's no problem! Cuz there's two subway station just near by.
Here's a lot of things about this area can say, people here make their life, very friendly neighborhood.
The Bed is comfortable, with Super new AC,
Not very big bathroom! But it's Clean !
Joe is a great guy, and it is helpful for me, Joe will show you the subway station how to get to the train etc etc. btw,it's my first time in U.S. It was amazing experience stay here " HARLEM "
Ps. Thanks for the umbrella! It was rain a lot when I get the NYC. Thank you Joe !
Book it! Hurry!
Joe was a great host ; welcoming and helpful upon my arrival(my first time in NYC)and remained so throughout my weeks' stay.
Room was basic but comfortable ; bathroom has great shower!!
Only drawback was the 70+ steps to the apartment (no elevator) although Joe did assist with my luggage.
Were I to return to New York I would certainly try and book with Joe again ; excellent value for money.
Just came home a few days ago from some wonderful days in New York where we stayed with Joe.
Joe is a very good host and is available to help you with how to get around in New York, and to give you good advice on where to go and what to see in.
When we first arrived in the neighbourhood we were quite shocked, but mainly because we're used to something different here in Denmark. We quickly learned that new area isn't at all as dangerous as it appears, however people should be adviced that it's in Harlem. I'm not sure it says anything about it in the profile.
The room itself was nice, although a bit small, but that's mainly because you think about big hotel rooms when you're out travelling. Besides, in New York, you're gonna spend most of the time out on the city. Joe offers both coffee and cereal which I think is a great thing to do! You also get your own set of keys so you don't have to be back at any specific time.
All in all we had a very pleasent stay with Joe, and we can only recommend people to stay at this place if they're looking for a cheaper alternative to a hotel or some of the more expensive downtown apartments that are being rented out.
