The Space

A delightful, recently renovated 3 bedroom cottage in the heart of Whitstable, a small seaside town just over an hour from London.

The cottage is in a prime location - 30 seconds from Whitstable's quirky Harbour Street, which has lots of amazing independent shops, galleries, restaurants & bars and about 2 mins to the beach and harbour.

This unique cottage is packed with lots of interesting one off antiques, has a shabby chic decor and is full of rustic charm.

The cottage has a lovely walled garden with beautiful rose bushes and home grown herbs as well as a french table and chairs for at least 8 people dining outside ; there's a sitting room with two chesterfield sofas which seats at least six people comfortably; the dining room has a real open log fire and a dining table & chairs that seats 6 people; the downstairs bathroom with the original cast iron roll top bath and there is also a more modern shower room upstairs ; each of the three double bedrooms have antique double beds and egyptian cotton sheets; plus there's an amazing bespoke gallery kitchen with hand -made wooden worktops a range cooker, smeg fridge freezer, and a full complement of pots, pans and utensils. There are also wooden floors and old school radiators throughout the cottage.

Plus, there is Sky TV in living room and attic room, wifi throughout, as well as an ipod connected music system. We also have a fantastic 1970's music box with over 500 vinyl 45's in the dining room which guests are more than welcome to play.

The cottage is perfect place for family and friends to escape from the busy demands of modern life and is also great for entertaining.

The Cook's Cottage is ideal for people who love cooking as it has a bespoke kitchen with a range cooker and is well stocked with herbs & spices and also has lots of cooking books and cooking utensils. With amazing fresh ingredients just around the corner in the many independent shops of Whitstable, it's the perfect place for budding chefs to test out recipes!

However, if cooking isn't your thing, the cottage is a charming escape from the stresses of the modern world.

Guest Access

The guests have access to everything - the whole house & garden although the shed at the back of the garden is currently off limits to guests.

Interaction with Guests

I'm available via email or mobile but guests are unlikely to meet me. However, our neighbour Kirsty will show guests around and is also able to answer any questions or queries that guests may have.

The Neighborhood

Whitstable is fantastic: it's full of independent shops; lots of amazing bars and restaurants; it also has a thriving artist community so there are some lovely galleries and as a consequence the town has a lovely arty vibe to it! Obviously the seaside is a big attraction and just strolling along the beachfront is a lovely way to spend the day.

Getting around

Train station is about a 10 minute walk from the cottage. Once you're in Whitstable most things are a about a 5 min walk away from the cottage which is in an amazing location - less than 5 mins away from the beach, shops and bars.

There is parking outside the cottage but in the busy summer months guests may have to park in a nearby street. However, because the street is a no through road guests will be able to unload their car just out side the cottage and then park it nearby. As the cottage is so centrally located and everything is so close by, guest shouldn't need their cars until they leave.

Other Things to Note

We provide a small hamper that contains lots of information about things to do in Whitstable and the surrounding area as well as a bottle of wine as a welcome gift!
There are also lots of books, DVDs and games that guests can use throughout their stay. We also have two toddler gates for each staircase and a travel baby cot for guests that have young children in their party. (Please note that as with all these old fisherman's cottages the stairs are very steep and may not be ideal for small children. Guests that do book our cottage who have small children do so at their own risk however if the stair gates are used there shouldn't be a problem and we have had lots of guests who have stayed with with young toddlers and there have been no issues.

  • Cottage was beautifully decorated and perfectly located (1 min walk from the main street of Whitstable). Although the house is quite spacious it is not so practical for 6 adults. One of the bedroom (top floor) doesn't have a door and there is only one shower (the other bathroom includes a very nice vintage bathtub but no shower fitting). We didn't time to cook in Selina's beautiful kitchen but were very impressed with her collection of vintage cooking utensils. Great collection of DVDs and vinyl's perfect for winters day (we have nice weather so didn't much time inside. We didn't get to meet Selina but she was very friendly and quick to respond to my emails.

    Response from Selina:

thanks for your feedback. I think, and previous guests agree, that cottage is pretty spacious for 6 people as it stretches across 3 floors and there are two bathrooms - one on the first floor next to two of the bedrooms and one on the ground floor. This highly unusual for these fisherman cottage's which normally just have one bathroom located on the ground floor...The bathroom on the ground floor is the original bathroom which we have renovated, keeping the original roll-top bath and taps as well as the original beams in the vaulted ceiling. We have painstakingly tried to restore the cottage back to as much as it's original features as possible - hence why no fitted shower downstairs - and like to think a modern bathroom upstairs and a gorgeous renovated bathroom downstairs would be ample for 6 people to wash in! Apologies re the shower room and the curtain, i will speak to the cleaners regarding this.

  • Everything! We were welcomed to the property by a delightful woman. There was a bottle of wine awaiting our arrival to a beautiful home, where all our needs had been thought about.-fully equipped kitchen, blankets on our beds should we feel cold, crisp linen and soft towels and toiletries in the (email hidden)e patio enabled us to be outside in the gorgeous weather.I give this place the highest ratings of anywhere I have ever stayed. It was perfect!

  • Perfect is the first word that comes to mind. I spent the weekend there with my girl friends to celebrate my birthday. The house was exactly what we wanted, well thought out and had everything we needed. My friends are even thinking of totally redecorating their houses to match it! The location was spot on (near to the shops) and was only a very short walk from the harbour. We are actually thinking of booking there again later in the year. Totally recommend.

  • We enjoyed a lovely Easter break at Cook's Cottage this year. Selina was very pleasant and helpful beforehand and made things easy for us upon arrival and departure. The cottage is well-decorated, comfortable (with great heating too) and located perfectly for walking distance access to all Whitstable has to offer.

We expected the town to be extremely busy over the holiday, and during the day it was relatively busy. However, in the evenings it returned to a relaxed town (like early in the morning) after all the day-trippers had left. It was very relaxing to stroll in and around the town and coast whilst stopping off at many little pubs dotted around the town.

    Response from Selina:

    thanks Kelvin, just seen this.
firstly, apologies for the dirty baking tray. guests are suppose to wash everything up before they leave and we obviously missed it when we checked everything after the previous guests so massive apologies for that. BTW, there was a hair dryer in the upstairs bedroom! We will buy a knife sharpener as suggested - thanks for that and they will be recycling facilities - whitstable has just got around to having these...The shower's about 6 months old so am assuming its blocked with hair or something so, will sort it out. Thanks again for the feedback, much appreciated. Best, Selina

  • We had a lovely family stay at the cottage. There was 6 of us and more than enough room. The kitchen had good facilities and the house was clean. The style and decor I just loved, it is quirky and really shabby chic I just love it!!! All the rooms are gorgeous and have towels. The location is amazing the beach is just behind the street. It is so quiet and peaceful.

  • We have just spent the weekend at The Cook's Cottage and have had a lovely stay. The cottage is beautifully and thoughtfully furnished and the kitchen is well equipped. The bath was particularly deep and delightful! And it was nice to have the real fire in the dining room too. The location of the cottage couldn't be better - right off harbour street, but it wasn't noisy, so just perfect for getting to the various shops and restaurants and just minutes from the sea too.

Selina was very helpful before our visit and we had no problems with checking in or out of the house. Will definitely recommend to friends and family!

  • Three friends left children and partners at home to escape for the most wonderful weekend in Whitstable. The Cook's Cottage is a perfect, comfortable and welcoming home with masses of charm. Lovely double bedrooms with comfortable beds, a small but perfect kitchen and two bathrooms. Very nice neighbours too and the location of the cottage can't be bettered. If, like us, you wanted to relax, eat oysters, wander around the shops and the beach, this is the place for you. I intend to come back with my family fairly soon. Not driving or having a car, places like this are ideal.

My husband and I have spent the last three years renovating our cottage in Whitstable and have tried to retain as much of the old character & charm of the cottage as possible. We both love cooking so we have created a bespoke kitchen that is geared around the art of cooking. Whitstable itself has lots of amazing independent shops and restaurants and is a cook's dream as it's easy to get lots of fresh fish and other fresh ingredients to cook with. However, if cooking isn't your thing, the cottage is a charming escape from the stresses of the modern world.
