I have lived in Minneapolis, most of my life, but my art has brought me to Latin America, Africa, and Northern Europe. I enjoy meeting people and sharing stories, but I can also give you all the privacy you would like.
I look forward to meeting you and hosting your stay in Minneapolis! "Welcome to a beautiful spot in the universe!"
Guests have access to the Living Room, Dining Room, Front porch, Master Suite, Bathroom, and kirchen if arranged.
Interaction with Guests
I like to give my guests privacy, yet I like to be helpful, if needed.
Two short blocks from several bus stops. I am located in the heart of the city.
I ask people to take off their shoes at the door, so you may want to bring some comfortable shoes to wear inside, again, thank you.
If you let me know ahead of time, I can have the type of coffee or tea you like: dark roast, green tea etc.
Also, I do appreciate when guests let me know the approximate time of arrival and also of checkout.
And, of course, no smoking in the house. On the porch is ok.
THANK YOU for your booking!
This is a beautiful, one of a kind space in a convenient part of Minneapolis. The Minneapolis Institute of Arts and some great restaurants were all in walking distance, even in sub-zero temperatures (Fahrenheit). I ended up being glad I had a car, though. Thank you!
Marilyn is a thorough and attentive host. Her home is beautifully decorated, very clean, and in a great neighborhood. The room itself is very warm (the heaters keep this place nice and cozy in the winter) and spacious with a nice seating area, mini-fridge, tea kettle, closet and reading nooks. A simple breakfast served in gorgeous ceramics, a quiet place to sleep, and morning sunshine through the windows... what more could you ask for! And don't hesitate to ask Marilyn for recommendations-- she was on point with all her local suggestions!
We enjoyed staying with Marilyn at her "gem" of a home very much. We were only there for two nights on a weekend getaway from outstate Minnesota but it was great. Marilyn was a great conversationalist, made us feel very welcome, showed us all that we needed to know, and provided breakfast which was an added treat. She also provided us with some good info on getting around Minneapolis and her help was spot on.
We also loved her beautiful home which she told us about. Her story about how she came to own it was fun to hear. In addition her decor was special. Our room was very pleasant and included what seemed like a second room for sitting and relaxing or watching the news on TV. She welcomed us to sit in the living room and we were at ease using the dining room and kitchen for breakfast. The bathroom was OK but for those who are not limber it might mean a high step to get into the tub/shower. No problem for us though. We drove to her place and found a parking place on the street almost in front of her home. A frequent bus line two blocks away led to downtown Minneapolis and you could walk the the Minneapolis Institute or Arts and loads of restaurants on Nicollet Ave ("Eat Street").
All in all it was a relaxing and pleasant weekend for us and Marilyn was a major reason for that. And if you like unique homes and decoration you will love it too. We give Marilyn our best recommendation.
I loved staying at Marilyn's. The house was exactly as it appeared in the pictures, gorgeous and beautifully appointed. Marilyn is friendly and helpful, and really interesting. We had a lot in common and enjoyed one another's company. I loved the location because I lived in this neighborhood years ago. Lots of good restaurants within walking distance and close to downtown, the Guthrie and Children's theatre and museums. I definitely would stay here again and recommend The Gem highly.
Marilyn's home is so lovely. This was my second time staying with her. The location is terrific! Her home is so beautiful and spacious. Very inviting. I always feel so safe when I stay here. My home away from away.
I had a great stay at the Gem! I was in town for several interviews, and Marilyn's home is conveniently located in a really neat neighborhood. I was able to find street parking for my rental car without a problem. I was able to walk just a few blocks to restaurants, yoga, the Institute of Art, and a run around the lakes. Marilyn was great with communication prior to my arrival, responding quickly to texts and emails. She made me feel very welcome in her home, providing a thorough tour of accommodations. The bnb suite is well stocked with all the creature comforts of home: tv with basic cable, mini fridge, hot water kettle, iron and ironing board. The bathroom is shared, but I never ran into an issue. I loved the breakfast of yogurt, fruit and granola that Marilyn set out every morning. All in all, this made for a great stay in the Twin Cities.
My roommate and I took a weekend trip to Minneapolis and stayed at Marilyn's beautiful bohemian home. We loved the decor and vibe of the house and the room, which included a lovely sun room with a comfy couch and chair. We couldn't have picked a better neighborhood--the house is within walking distance to great restaurants, bars, shops, a coffee shop, and the Art Institute. Marilyn gave us great recommendations about what to do, including going to see a play at a small local theater run by her friends. We will definitely stay with Marilyn on our next trip to Minneapolis!
Hello! I am a Minneapolis born mosaic artist/muralist and painter, but my art has taken me to Latin America, Europe and Africa. My home reflects the many wonderful connections I cherish with artists from my own state to abroad. I believe art can play a role in building the human world we all envision.
I love sharing what I know about 'my' diverse city: whether is is galleries, coffee shops, museums, neighborhoods, the Lakes, bike paths, art openings, restaurants or theater.
