Though our stay was short, Doug made his home very welcoming and inviting. The views from the room and the front porch were spectacular!
Just as described and just as beautiful as the pictures portray it to be! My husband and I needed a place to stay mid-week and this was the perfect location if you're looking for something a little removed from town. Close to both Waterbury and Waitsfield with sweeping views of the Mad River Valley. Clean, comfortable, friendly.
The house is lovely , situated at the top of a mountain. It's a three-mile drive up the mountain from Route 100B on an unpaved (hard-packed) road.
Magnificent views of the entire Green Mountain range from the bedroom (room #2) , dining room, living room, wrap-around deck and porch. Very private house.
Breakfast was not included, but the first morning the host cooked us a nice breakfast anyway. The second morning the host cooked breakfast for himself and his son so the house smelled of coffee and bacon, but he did not invite us to have some , much less join them, which we found strange and awkward. Host Doug was not chatty or warm. We felt a bit unwelcome at times (tolerated but not wanted) and therefore we did not linger in the house. One night would have been enough.
There is a friendly live-in caretaker named Alex, who showed us around the first evening.
The decor throughout is basic Pottery Barn or Ethan Allen. The room was very comfortable. Excellent bed. Quiet house. Adult children of the host came and went, generally ignoring us ( not even a hello).
Two large friendly dogs, a lab and a golden retriever. Host has a house in Florida so is not always present.
Doug was the perfect type of host for my friend and me. Friendly, helpful, but not at all intrusive. We also enjoyed interacting with Alex, who helps manage Doug's house when he is away. Alex was full of good advice about places to eat, local attractions etc. The views of the mountains from the porch and our windows were breathtaking, and we were a short drive from some great hikes. The best part of the whole trip was the outdoor hot tub that afforded incredible views of the night sky! We'd definitely come back.
Alex, Doug's caretaker, showed us to our room and was very friendly. The room was clean and the view was spectacular. Wish we could have stayed longer!
Merci Alex!
One of the most spectacular Vermont views, perched on Doug's expansive front porch the vista below is a sea of Green Mountain ridges, westerly and panoramic, incredible sunsets! The large post and beam home created a greater sense of privacy than I expected from a "room with shared bath". The congenial but oft travelling host leaves caretaker Alex in charge when he is gone. Friendly and helpful, Alex carried my way-overpacked suitcase to my room, no small feat! High quality linens and a comfy bed, cool Vermont air, the sleep was great. And the room has the same westerly view as the front porch. Close to Sugarbush but not far from Stowe, I'm coming back during ski season. An Air B&B gem!

About the Host, Doug
Outgoing single father of 3 great older children, who likes to travel and meet new people and new places. Like being outdoors in winter to ski and on the water to play where it is warm. You'll likely find me in Vermont, Key West, NYC or Boston. Fanatic about great music, wine and good cigars...
What I like: Friendly people, educated conversations, music of all types (except rap), local pubs, and spontaneous, new experiences of all kinds.
Motto #1: Good things happen for good people, so be generous, kind and polite!
Motto #2: Work hard and play hard!
