"... a paradise for nature lovers, elemental style ... relaxed" ... Ojo del Mar ("eye of the sea") is an eclectic, intimate eco friendly retreat (european run) nestled between the pristine beaches and tropical rainforest.

The space

The new barefoot luxury is refined:We call it "simplicity"
...Ojo del Mar ("eye of the sea"), is a small, eco friendly secluded retreat nestled between the pristine beaches and the tropical rainforest in the wilds of Costa Rica's Osa Peninsula.
As National Geographic says, the Osa is the "Last Great Peninsula," still untouched by the ravages of civilization, with over 350 species of birds, 115 species of reptiles, 750 species of trees and 10,000 species of insects...along with the 100,000 acre fantastic Corcovado National Park. This is a gorgeous and remote spot: we cherish the Osa.
Waking up to the morning sound of howler monkeys, the squawking of macaws and the orchestral singing of birds and insects against the background rhythm of the (URL HIDDEN) a place to reconnect to the essential.
Ojo del Mar has capacious spaces in its main "Casa Grande" (restaurant) with hardwood floors and a thatched roof bamboo construction, solar powered, all built by hand without power tools. Ojo del Mar's building concept follows a calling that is environmentally and socially responsible.
We welcome you and all sorts of groups/events to support ourmindful and sustainable commitments in deep connection with nature.
We also have great places to relax on the beach, such as our hammocks, ocean-tree platform and Yoga Lounge. During the season (May through December) if you are lucky you can see turtles nesting and baby turtles hatching.
During the day when not out on a tour, enjoying the beach, lazing around the natural river pool or practicing yoga, the ‘Casa Grande' offers a variety of ways to while away the hours. During the day folks enjoy the library, socialize with other guests, watch the sights unfold in the open air kitchen, our staff whipping up a fancy dessert or baking bread, play a game of chess or a bit of music, read up on the rainforest, and when needed, check in with planet earth on our free WiFi service. As an "eco-resort", we do not offer air conditioning, telephones, or televisions,... we are 100% off the grid.
Please note: We are happy to charge your camera batteries, I-phones and blackberries, but we cannot charge your laptops because we have limited power source (solar energy only).
Meanwhile, the solitude and beauty of the beach awaits you, the jungle of the Osa is calling (literally), Ojo del Mar's gardens, with a variety of native species are beckoning,…
We, Nico and Mark, consider Ojo del Mar as a sacred place of happiness and live energy, far from everything but closer to its goal: Living large on a small ecological footprint.
Ojo del Mar's 6 rustic, airy, elevated cabins are as close to nature as you can get. They are privately set among beautiful tropical gardens and trails on the property allow further exploration of tropical fruits and flowers and of the colorful wildlife species.
All Cabinas have orthopedic beds, some have double beds, others have two twin beds that make into deluxe kings; all come with mosquito netting (even bugs are minimal here in paradise), cotton sheets and plenty of pillows, towels, biodegradable soaps, candles, flowers, etc.. Each cabina has its own mosaic-floored outdoor garden shower and sink. Most come with a private bathroom, two cabinas have their own bathroom under the same roof. A fabulous breakfast is included in the price of your stay, and lunch and dinner are available at our restaurant in the “Casa Grande" as well.
We also offer two small locally hand crafted Bamboo Tiki tents for 2 people with either a double or 2 twin beds. The tents are spacious, close to the ocean on wooden platforms. They have a private outdoor shower, but you will be sharing a communal bathhouse with all facilities.
Ojo Del Mar lodge featuring yoga, wellness & whole foods, ecotourism and a retreat center in the Osa Peninsula Costa Rica.

Ojo del Mar is a true gem. Walking through the resort feels like being in a far-away magical land, surrounded by the jungle and animals, with a beachfront that you'll just want to swing away the hours in a hammock near (and there are plenty of hammocks to do so). Nico was super helpful, making sure we had taxis, booked excursions for us, charged our battery packs and generally answered all our many logistical questions. The breakfast were hearty and the one dinner we had there was my favorite meal of the trip - fresh, flavorful and unique. The place is off the grid, so bring a flashlight, and you might need a night to adjust to hearing all the animals roaming around at night, but the Cabina still felt luxurious. And we loved the outdoor shower! My friends and I enjoyed our stay so much that we agreed we'd come back in a heartbeat if we ever make it back down to Osa.

This is paradise. The staff was excellent and the company delightfully international. The food alone is worth a visit.

Get a proper 4x4, good flashlight, pile of books and your walking shoes and let nature take over your life at Ojo del Mar. Nico and Mark have built a truly unique spot in the jungle, close to the beach at the Osa. We had an absolute wonderful stay. Don't expect fresh towels every day, wifi, a hot shower and cable tv. Do expect living the closest to nature, animals waking you up, fresh healthy delicious food, the silence. Do: some surfing (thank you Pollo), explore the forest with a local guide or try one of the excursions Nico recommends. You won't regret. It's a gift that our planet still has these remote, almost untouched places.

This place is truly amazing! It was a relaxing retreat that will seriously help you unwind from your busy life. Morning yoga was so relaxing and you can't beat the setting, under the trees and hearing the waves crash. Nico's breakfast and dinner were delicious and so fresh. Wildlife is all around you. My husband and I would spend every afternoon in the hammocks watching the clouds and storm roll in over the sea. It rained every day while we were there but we didn't mind. The rain put us to sleep every night while we laid in our open cabin and would wake to a sunny sky.

We had a wonderful, memorable, and romantic stay at Nico's place. The bamboo cabin was very private and clean. The animals were everywhere around us. Monkeys of all sorts overhead, lizards, birds, bugs, and other amazing animals visible while relaxing in our hammock! The cabo matapalo area is a must see. I only wish we had stayed longer! Theres no ac or hot running water, but I never missed them, and really there is no need for them there... Take a cool shower before bed and lay back and enjoy the abundance of jungle sounds all around you! Wake up to the crazy sounds of howler monkeys! Truly an experience of a lifetime to see the creative hand of God in his spectacular creation. Nico is an amazing chef, preparing gourmet food as she becomes inspired. Very delicious! The nearby beaches are amazing, just a short walk away. I highly recommend this place.
