Interaction with Guests
Our family is very mellow and friendly. We own and run a bakery in downtown Kona so we work and run errands quite a bit.
On work days we leave the house around 5:00 am and get home in the early afternoons...sometimes late at night. We usually end up going to bed pretty early or just relaxing around the house. On our "off" days, we're usually at the beach,
doing house/yard work or relaxing at home.
We invite you to come to our cafe in downtown Kona and enjoy a complimentary continental style breakfast per person on the first morning (or any one time during your stay).
An organic, home made NY Bagel and cup of 100% Kona Coffee, Apple Juice or Tropicana OJ.
Please enjoy a 20% discount at our cafe anytime during your stay with us as well.
We have GF and Vegan options too!
We want you to know that we are happy to see you and answer any questions you have regarding your stay or about the area activities.
When we are home, if you hear or see us, you're more than welcome to come by and say hello! We love meeting our guests, however if you prefer to be left alone and just relax, we totally respect that and your privacy.
Once you've booked your stay with us, you will be given both our cell phone numbers. We are best reached via text and also via the airbnb message thread. We always have our phones on us and are very good about replying and being in touch.
Our home is nested on 1.5 private in a beautiful, desirable area in the hills just minutes from Kona town. In fact if you're at the Kailua Kona pier and you look south, you can see our areas perched on the mountainside from there.
We've had many people visit our property (even long time locals) that have said "wow! This spot is amazing! I didn't even know this existed up here".
Driving down the road you'll see coffee farms, banana trees and macadamia nut groves and lush tropical foliage. Our neighbors are mostly coffee growers and farmers. You don't see any other houses from our home (even though we do have neighbors on adjacent properties), yet we are conveniently located minutes from Keauhou Resort and Kailua Kona where you'll find all the modern conveniences of shopping, dining, movie theaters, entertainment, grocery stores and of course wonderful beaches, snorkeling spots and amazing island adventures.
The historic Keauhou Store is located just under a mile from our home. This adorable country/vintage store sells all kinds of snacks, drinks and even has a small lunch menu. It's a great place to sit, relax and watch life go by. Oh! And the owner, Thea, makes amazing, fresh baked cookies!
Palekana road (the road our home is on) is a great road for a morning run or evening walk. One of our neighbor's farms is a sight for Kamehameha Schools so sometimes you can hear the kids chanting in Hawaiian as they work on the land. It's amazing.
On certain nights if you're sitting outside on the lanai (deck), the beats of the Tahitian drums from the luau down at the Sheraton Resort travel up the mountain. It is so cool. Makes one feel like you're in ancient Hawaii!
Our home is located approximately 25-30 minutes south of the Kona International Airport which is 10-15 minutes from downtown Kona.
If you're arriving on a flight at the Hilo airport, Kailua Kona & our home is about a 2 hour drive.
Renting a car is a ideal when staying at our place. If you don't have a "smartphone", we recommend a GPS or a great map.
If you choose to use one of our maps or guidebooks and don't have a GPS, no worries! We'll provide you with very detailed instructions to our home. It really is easy to find (even at night).
If you don't plan on renting a car, you will find our place to not be the best spot. However, when my schedule allows, I have accommodated guests before who didn't have cars. Let me know if this is something you're interested in.
Other Things to Note
The studio is accessible via an exterior, covered stairwell. If stairs pose a challenge for you, you'll find this to not be a suitable place.
The houses are separated enough where you rarely see or hear other guests, however we kindly request that from the hours of 10:00 pm to 8:00 am we are all extra conscious of our neighbor guests. (Conversations, TV's, Phone Calls, laptops, etc....at a lower volume).
Cigarette smoking is allowed on your private outdoor lanai only. You're welcome to smoke on the lower part of the parking lot as well or down by the palm trees where the turtle birdbath is.
Large beach towels have been provided for taking to the beach.
Please turn off all fans, TV's and lights when you leave for the day.
We harvest the majority of our water from the rain. Please be conservative when using water (brushing teeth, showering, washing dishes). On that note: THE WATER in the water bottle stations are for consumption.
Store all food in the microwave or refrigerator when you're gone. Any food left out is a party invitation for bugs.
Your own private, spacious lanai. Great place to enjoy a meal, relax with a good book and even sunbathe.
My wife and I really enjoyed staying in Antoinette's studio. It's located in an idillic setting. I much prefer staying in a local house to the staying in one of the cookiecutter condos (which we did the first half of the vacation).
The room is nice, there is no air conditioning but that high up in the mountains we didn't need it. The ceiling fan was plenty for us. The private deck was really nice to have. We had no intention of cooking so the lack of appliances didn't bother us. But it was nice to have the fridge to put beer in. The room is detached, so you have an entire building to yourself which is nice.
We used the snorkel gear which was nice to not have to rent.
It's located near some cool thrift stores and antique shops. Takes a while to get to Hilo but we were fine with that.
I went running in the area and it's very hilly, but very lush.
Antoinette and her family were very nice and super helpful in giving recommendations.
We had a very nice stay in the Private Studio! It is close enough from Kona and allows you to get to any outdoor activity! The studio was as described and very welcoming. We had everything we needed to cook and go to the beach. It is a very good choice!
We stay 6 nights at Antoniette's and we got what we expected . The studio is clean and big enough even for a long stay. It's in Honalo, not so far from Kona and in a hill in the lush , which is quite good for us. There is a great lanai and a very good BBQ, you can use it at sunset time to cook the great big island beef which is something unbelievable !
There is a kitchenette full equipped and you have coffe and porridge for breakfast , a big fridge , microwave and an electric plate, we use once.
From the lanai you have a great view which the picture cannot describe properly.
From kona airport it will take 30 minutes and follow her instructions or the Gps device to reach it. Frogs are very loud but I think is a beautiful experience, my girlfriend love that sounds. If you don't like rumors at night use earplug or consider another option. Antoniette is very responsive and she can give you good tips for the hotspots in the island. So I can only recommend it
We had a really great stay! Very peaceful and close to Kona. Make sure to visit her bakery, it is delicious!
The apartment was great (as shown in the pictures). It's quiet and peaceful and has everything you need!
The views are really cool; there's a terrace for you where you can see the sunset.
You definitely need a car to get there and probably the first time might be a bit difficult to find the apartment, but the location is good (10 min from Kona).
Antoinette was very responsive and helpful. She answered any message very fast and helped us a lot.
Antoinette and her husband were wonderful hosts. Go check out her bakery for a free bagel and coffee. Plus buy some baked goods! They're tasty. This place is great for a group of friends, family, or a couple who doesn't want a lot of privacy. Don't get me wrong, the place is great! However, there are usually other guests who stay there as well. The walls are a bit thin and the bed is noisy. Their place is nested around lots of trees and during the night you'll mostly hear lots of calming jungle noises (birds, frogs, etc.). The view when you wake up is amazing. Parking is included. Friendly hosts. I truly enjoyed my stay.
The studio is situated in the middle of a lush tropical garden which is refreshing and beautiful!
The view from the balcony is amazing and it's also a great place to eat.
The everything is confortable and nice! Thanks Antoinette and John!
