Aloha! If you're looking for an authentic Hawaiian ohana (family) experience, look no further. We're located on 1.5 acres in famous Kona Coffee country, surrounded by lush jungle, wildlife, ocean views and a peaceful environment yet just a short drive to Kona town.
Please know we aren't always able to give the personal experience some guests seek. However we're easy to reach & happy to share our beloved sanctuary with you while you're on this amazing island.
Great for self sufficient travelers!

The space

Aloha!
Thank you for your interest in staying with us. We know that a trip to Hawaii is for many, a once in a lifetime adventure and we want to be part of a wonderful and memorable experience. On that note, please take a moment to read the following info so you know exactly what we have to offer you.

1. Guest Interaction. In addition to our home vacation rental we run a bakery & cafe business in downtown Kona. It is RARE we get to meet our guests. This vacation home is designed for self sufficient travelers. We are a SELF CHECK IN guest home. If you are expecting to be personally greeted when you arrive and have us knock on your door to check on you during your stay, you will be disappointed. We ARE available via text or message thread to answer any questions you might have. We also host work volunteers that are on property until 2 pm every day that can assist you with questions.

2. We are located in the country just 10 to 15 minute south of downtown Kona. If you want to experience the sounds of nature such as pheasants, wild pigs snorting around (on occasion), coqui tree frogs serenading you to sleep, rainforest sounds, roosters, chickens and occasional barking of dogs, you'll be in heaven. Note that pretty much anywhere you stay in the jungle environment on the Big Island there will be coqui frogs, roosters and chickens. If you are a light sleeper, you will not want to stay here. Noises don't happen nighty and this is a very peaceful place but nature sounds CAN and DO happen.

3. ATTENTION Honeymooners or those seeking a "Private" experience. Our home is not built with insulated walls like a hotel or condo. Although you do have privacy please understand that this is a HOME and not a hotel. This is not a place to party.
We DO have and enforce our quiet hours (10:00 pm to 8:00 am) so please don't be disappointed if you hear neighbor guests watching tv, having a conversation or walking about during normal hours.

Guest access

There is snorkel gear and body boards that are available to all our guests on a first come first serve basis.
Guests also have access to the back lanai where another patio table is located and access to our private hot tub.
NOTE ON HOT TUB: This is our family's hot tub that we are happy to share with our guest. It's not included as an amenity so please don't make the hot tub a top reason for booking. On RARE occasions it can be out of service so we wont want our guest to book expecting the hot tub to be available and then be disappointed if for some reason it's not working during your stay.
Thank you!

Interaction with guests

Our vacation home set us is for self sufficient travelers. It's similar to a tranquil, private hostel.
In addition to our vacation home business, we own and run a small bakery and cafe in downtown Kona so we're a very busy family and not always available to meet and have personal interaction with our guests.
We do our very best to provide you with lots of information to make your stay here smooth and are available via the airbnb message center, text message or "What's App" application.
We also host amazing work volunteers from around the world who help us with assisting our guests with basic needs and questions daily from 9 am until 2:00 pm.
Mahalo!

Other things to note

The studio is accessible via an exterior, covered stairwell. If stairs pose a challenge for you, you'll find this to not be a suitable place.

We live on 1.5 acres in Kona Coffee country. We are surrounded by nature. If you're a light sleeper, this might not be the best option for you. When it's the rainy season in Kona, the coqui frogs come from burrowing and chirp a symphony all night long. Sometimes wild pigs are in the area and squeal late at night followed by our dogs barking at them. Wild hens sing their egg laying song during the day. Roosters crow early in the morning and sometimes in the middle of the night if the moon is getting full.

Many guests have stayed with us and have enjoyed their time here. We just want you to know that these sounds of nature are possible.

I really enjoyed my stay in the mana studio! I will definitely look up Antoinette Johnny and Luna again next time I stay on the kona side. The place was easy enough to find, easy to check in, and it's not far from local restaurants and attractions. I'm not one to need much interaction from the hosts, but I found then at the bakery shop they own and run (be sure to get breakfast there, it's amazing!) And they are super friendly and warm. Cannot recommend this place more!

One of the most beautiful peaces of Hawaiian property you will ever come across! The view from the private deck in the mana sweet made me want to stay longer than scheduled! The available amenities and warm welcoming from the owners makes this one of the best travel experiences I've ever had!

This place is perfect for travelers looking to get off the beaten path a little bit. So secluded and quiet-we loved falling asleep to the sounds of the jungle every night. The studio is a great base of operations from which to explore up and down the coast. You can't do much cooking but there was enough kitchen equipment to brew a pot of tea or coffee or reheat leftovers. Watching the sunset over the ocean from our bedroom window was truly amazing.
