Live in in the heart of Little Tokyo and the Arts District with other international travelers and visitors! Clean, convenient, and inexpensive. You won't find a better deal in LA.
UNFURNISHED dorm room available for minimum four days, long term stays encouraged. You will need to arrange your own bedding and furniture. Rooms come with closet and sink only. Fully furnished rooms are also available, please see our other listings.
LENGTH OF STAY - We generally accept reservations of 30 days maximum length. If you wish to reserve for a longer period you may discuss that with the apartment manager after you check in for your initial stay.
ROOM DESCRIPTION: Private rooms are for one individual, have locks on doors, and come with a sink. Kitchen, toilet, shower rooms are shared, and professionally cleaned each day. This is a dorm-style atmosphere with great long-term tenants, international travelers, and a friendly on-site manager. Please bring your own towel. This room is similar to the others I have listed, that's why I am just using the same photo. For views of the premises look at the other properties. Thank you for not requesting additional photos of the rooms.
INTERNET: Free wi-fi is available in the living room and dining area, but due to usage it can be VERY slow. If you rely upon wi-fi for work you should arrange your own wireless modem or you can go to starbucks nearby.
PARKING: Free street parking is available nearby (but it goes quickly), otherwise it is $4.00/day at the meters or $4.00/day at the nearby lot. Metered spots are enforced from 6 am - 4 pm and they also cost $4.00 per day.
GETTING THERE: From LAX take the FlyAway bus ($7.00 one way) to Union Station, then take the Gold Line to the Little Tokyo stop. The building is two short blocks away.
WEEKEND ARRIVAL: Please keep in mind that if you are arriving on a Saturday or Sunday the manager may not be there in person to let you in, but there is a lockbox from which you retrieve your keys.
CHECKING IN: Check-in is at 3 pm, Check-out is at 12 noon. Once your reservation is accepted you will receive a phone number for the on-site manager, Alex (different from the one currently listed). Please contact him immediately to discuss check-in details. Please do not wait until the last minute to call. Thank you!
SECURITY DEPOSIT: Because most of our tenants are long-term guests, our security deposit is the equivalent of one month's rent. The deposit is held by Airbnb through your credit card and they will return it to you after your stay. We have had a couple hundred individual reservations with our building and have only had to make deductions for damages a couple of times. If you are a responsible guest, you should have no worries.
ADDITIONAL GUESTS: Additional guests are not allowed without prior notification and prior permission given by the host. Unless agreed to otherwise, any additional guests who stay past 10 pm will be charged an additional $10 per night. If an additional guest is brought without prior permission and paid for in advance, you may lose your security deposit or have your reservation cancelled. Thank you in advance for not bringing overnight guests without prior permission.
Shared bathrooms are cleaned daily, as is the shared kitchen. Laundry facilities are on site. We have a communal, international atmosphere.
Interaction with Guests
Alex is the on-site apartment manager and can answer all of your questions.
LOCATION: Live in the heart of Little Tokyo, in downtown Los Angeles. Located on First and Hewitt, the Sogo Hotel is only two blocks from the Little Tokyo Gold Line metro stop and on the same block as the downtown Dash A line. Major freeways are very close.
TRANSPORTATION: From the Gold Line you can explore the rest of Los Angeles City, and from the Dash A you can explore downtown. Little Tokyo is the most vibrant area of downtown Los Angeles, with authentic Japanese eateries, markets, and stores. The Arts District is nearby as well, with plenty of cafes, art galleries, and street art to view, as well as some of the best restaurants in LA. The (phone number hidden), and other freeways are all nearby.
No smoking, drinking, drugs or loud music. Roof access is for emergency use only, and additional guests are not allowed without prior notification and express permission, and additional guests must pay a $10 per night fee. Having an overnight guest without paying for the overnight fee in advance, or walking on the roof, can result in forfeiture of your security deposit and/or cancellation of your reservation. If you are arriving on a weekend you may need to pick up the key from the lockbox. Thank you for being considerate of house rules and other guests.
This location is great - it's located 5 minutes outside of the metropolitan area of Los Angeles. It's in the Arts District, which has seen some dramatic changes to its old buildings, and there's a lot of chic shops and coffee bars in the area. Also, little Tokyo is only a few blocks away, and there's a lot of options for eating. I would recommend this place for people who need a temporary place while settling into Los Angeles. The room is clean, but it is hot - there's no AC. You can open the window, but be prepared for loud noises. It's next to the metro rail, and traffic is non-stop until around 11-12am. Unfurnished is exactly that: unfurnished. Unless you have an air mattress or a futon, be prepared for a hard wooden floor that's seen better days. I thought I could get by with a blanket and a sleeping bag - don't do it. But the bathrooms are cleaned daily, the roommates are cool people, and all in all, you're really paying for the location. If you need maintenance assistance, ask Alex, the building manager. He can help you out with lost keys, broken equipment, etc.
Location is close to a metro, which is great if you don't have a car. If you do have a car, it's a bit of a hassle to find parking and usually have to park a couple blocks away. Little Tokyo is a very cute area, but beware of skid row where lots of homeless people habitats.
Cleanliness- The manager cleans the bathrooms pretty much every day. The kitchen can get a little messy since you are sharing with everyone in the building, but for the most part people clean after themselves. Be sure to bring cups, plates and utensils since these supplies are limited. The stove was broken for a week and the sinks leak.
The owner of the place referred me to contact the manager who left me a key in the lock box. I had trouble opening it, but was fortunate that someone who lived in the building could help. The manager seems very friendly, but is reluctant to help for small favours since he says it's not really part of his job description.
Again, an honest, no frills, very affordable room and good amenities for the price. I am return guest. Thanks for providing affordable, clean, convenient lodging at such a great price point.
Very nice place! Jay and Alex are super nice, and are there to help. The bathrooms and kitchen are cleaned a lot. The internet is slow, but it's what I expected. It's shared with the entire building, after all. If you need a transitional place, the Sogo Hotel is perfect.
