Villa “La Collina” is set atop a hill with 360 degree views of the Tuscan countryside. The location is very good for exploring central and eastern tuscany, with Sienna in especially easy reach. Even the quaint town of Ambra (only 5km away) has a couple of good restaurants and doesn't feel at all touristy. Gianni and Stella are incredibly helpful and generous hosts, and spent the Saturday hand-over night at another house on the property. They helped with advice on the local area and set-up a WONDERFUL dinner cooked by a local woman. It was one of the best meals of the trip!
The house looks as good or better than in the pictures. All of the bedrooms are clean, incredibly large and each has wonderful windows and views. There are great little sitting areas indoors to relax and read a book, although we spent almost the whole time outdoors. The outdoor seating areas are nice with good, comfortable furniture. The outdoor "tuscan grill" is great for evening cooking as it overlooks the valley and you can watch the sun set in the distance.
The pool is large and very clean, with good sunshine throughout the day. The only minor limitation (we had 3-year-old twins with us) was that there are no stairs and no shallow end--only a ladder to enter the pool. Our kids like to play and spend time in shallow water and there is none in the pool. The only other observation was a small charge for beach towels for use at the pool which was a bit surprising for a high-end villa at this price point.
Overall, we had a great stay and appreciated the hospitality of Giovanni, Stella and Gianni. If you are looking for serenity, comfortable accommodations and breathtaking views, you will not be disappointed!
