  • This is a very nice lodge in an absolutely beautiful area. It was way more house than we needed, but was still reasonably prices for a party of five. Would stay here again in a minute. The lodge is connected to a Catholic retreat center, but it is quite private. Our interactions with the staff (check in and check out) at the center were efficient and cordial. Could not be happier. Highly recommend if you're looking for a relaxing place in the lake district.

  • Great property - really spacious and great setting. Lovely to be able to use the grounds and even had a little bbq! Perfect for a large-ish group.

  • As described, property is conveniently located for town centre and in a nice quiet area. Spacious, well equipped. Perfect base for exploring the nearly lakes and hills!

  • All very easy going. As this is selfcatering you might want to check what you assume will be there (e.g. No coffeemaker which is not unusual in the UK as most Britons consider the instant option they refer to as coffee as a genuine product...). Communication with Gillian is prompt and clear. The lodge has all the basics one needs to enjoy oneself and it's a great base from which to design trip schemes and for regrouping. The rooms are adequate. The two bed room is very small. We were with eight people and that was quite alright. You could crank it up to ten but then you'll feel that it's a squeeze. Be aware that cooking and living are in the same room.

  • Lovely place, helpful staff and suited all our needs.

  • We were a group of 8, which meant we had plenty of room -- 3x en suite doubles, a loads of singles - and Gillian (Ruth's colleague) was very helpful. Only one small hiccup when the heating broke down at night (we went in February and it was freezing), but it was fixed in the morning.

The lodge is next door (about 400m away) to the Manor house, which is a Catholic Youth Centre now. The lodge itself is comfortable, functional, a good base for large groups -- the kitchen table is a great talking space. There's a dryer for those sudden rainstorms you'll see at certain times of year, and a dishwasher.

We had a great time here, because of the space available. It would have felt empty with fewer than 8 people though.

  • This is a large accommodation just a few minutes walk to downtown. It's comfortable, on beautiful grounds, and was well suited to our party of 7.
