  • Jen and Joe offered a fabulous stay at their Beach View Duplex. Jen greeted me with a warm smile and gave a great tour of the home. Prior to booking, Jen immediately responded to my inquiries.

The home had all of the kitsch and charm of Rockaway in a bright and sunny layout.

Oh - this place is SPOTLESS. I was wowed by the clean smell and fresh linens provided. This alone made my stay comfortable and welcoming. :)

  • Joe and Jen are battlers as we say in Oz. The hurricane and floods knocked them out but they have rebuilt and cleaned up! Very clean and nicely furnished apt. I like that owners gave us space. Only
Negative could be location but ferries are quick and fun. Flight path noisy if wind going certain way but did not occur late at night. Great runs along boardwalk and even found my cappuccino! Thanks Jen and Hoe
    and best of luck

Obergeschoss (2.

  • I was sold by the image of the couch positioned looking out to the sea view but was disappointed on arrival that this was not the case at all- different furniture completely. The house is basic and no frills and is in need of an update. The common area outside is not what is expected by the images too so the bbq imagined never took place. The area is not so desirable at all. It allows access to Manhattan but expect a long time consuming journey. The beach allows a nice walk but to be honest we felt unsafe so didnt loiter or have a picnic. There are very few shops, restaurants close by. I am not sure I would recommend this for a holiday vacation as the area does not support a holiday atmosphere at all. The owners did respond quickly when we needed an extra chair.

    Response from JEN & Joe:

Unfortunately, the previous guest stained the couch and we had to replace it immediately before your arrival. Our apologies. We would not have been comfortable to welcome you in the condition that it was in. However, the new furniture was positioned the same way as the previous one.(Pictures now updated)
The apartment is 2 years old, new cabinetry and granite countertop, new bath, etc. we are still working on the decor
The outside is exactly as the pictures show, I took these photos myself, so there is not tricks. The brick fireplace and charcoal BBQ is there, we didn't take it away, since it is attached to the ground, therefore, I don't understand how you missed it. This apartment is very convenient especially in the summer time, because you could enjoy the beach, the bands playing by the boardwalk, bike ridding, surfing, etc...
Sorry that you came in the Fall, when it is already cold and the beach is no longer desirable. However, the apartment itself is accommodating and has a nice central heat and air conditioner unit so it can be booked all year around. It is a short walk from public transportation, the 45 minutes ride to Manhattan is mentioned in the description of the apartment. The neighborhood is nothing like Time Square, Soho, or Chelsea but definitely a safe area.
Despite your rudeness at check in, we will love to have you back for your summer holidays when you could enjoy what Rockaway Beach has to offer.

  • My fiancee and I came to Jen and Joe’s for the 4th of July. Rockaway Beach is a lot of fun if you're looking for a relaxing and low-key spot close to Manhattan, and Jen and Joe were great and accomodating hosts.

The duplex has been built and designed with lots of thought and loving care. There are two single beds on the second floor, one with a trundle, and a queen bed on the ground floor. There is plenty of closet space, and Jen and Joe provided fresh towels and sheets as well as a map of the area and menus from local restaurants. There is also a coin-op laundry on the premises, and some beach chairs and umbrellas you can borrow. The beach is a half a block (2 min walk) away, and just wonderful - you can swim, sun, and play frisbee, walk along the boardwalk and sample all the different cuisines at the food stands from Caracas to Steve’s Ice Cream to the Rockaway Taco outpost. Or you can rent a bike at Boarders and check out the rest of the boardwalk. Jacob Riis and Fort Tilden are both about a few miles away, or a 10 minute bus ride. There were other activities, like movies at the beach, yoga and spinning on the boardwalk, and kayaking that we wanted to check out but did not have time for.

We had a couple of stormy nights where we really enjoyed the killer collection of VHS tapes--as well as a great selection of cable channels. And the temperature got into the high 90s--so the central air was much appreciated!

The neighbors are very friendly, and the view of the ocean is unbelievable. You can't go wrong here.

  • Jen and Joe were wonderful and we felt right at home. They clearly take pride in their properties and took very good care of the unit where we stayed. It was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. They were nice enough to leave us some information about local places to dine, which came in handy, along with the indispensable subway map! :) It was a longish train ride into Manhattan, but we felt safe and had very few problems navigating everywhere from Times Square to Coney Island. We walked the short few blocks home each night after midnight and felt safe. Our NYC vacation with the kids was an unforgettable experience, and I am so glad our kind, gracious hosts shared their space with us. Thank you!

  • My wife and I spent a week in this lovely duplex in October, 2011. The location of this place is either a plus or a minus, depending on your mindset and purpose in staying. It's at least an hour on the subway to midtown, but we knew that going in, so we simply planned accordingly.

Jen was there to meet us with a key and a quick tour. She was very friendly, helpful, and accommodating, making sure we were comfortable calling her at any time and for any reason. We had no need, however, as everything was as it should be, and in perfect order.

The one perk I didn't really catch from the listing is the amazing view from this duplex. It's on the second floor, and there are huge windows all along the south wall, affording spectacular views of the ocean, which is only half a block away. It was a pleasure to sit in the living room, reading a book or watching TV, while enjoying the panorama from the windows.

The duplex is not huge, but has everything a couple would need for a fantastic getaway, and the upstairs loft will easily hold several additional guests.

If we are in the area again and in need of accommodations, we will not hesitate to contact Jen and Joe, and stay again!

  • Best weekend ever. We stayed for five gorgeous days and were really, really happy with the place-right by the beach and everything we needed in the house. Everything was spotless and new and the hosts were extremely nice and welcoming. Can't wait to come back next year!!!
