I am always available to answer questions and concerns before, during, and after booking. I provide with inside of the Island and current events. At your arrival I do my best to introduce my self and the house to my guest. Sometimes I have to leave the Island but don't worry, If am not in the island the house have a combination key box for you to pick up and drop keys for your conveniences.
In addition to Vieques beautiful beaches La Casita provide a unique cultural experience; the house is located in a local neighborhood where our guests should make a priority to experience our way of life and community. Chickens walk freely from on property to the next. Horses are all over the Island and the locals are friendly and helpful. Since we are a small Island we also have some limitations, for your convenience it is important to gas your rental car as soon as possible, gas supply may run out without notice and resupplies can take up to two days. Local Viequenses philosophy is: "if is available now buy it, don't wait until run-out"
The best way to get around is by rental car, you will have the freedom to move from place to place on your own schedule, scooters are also available (If you don't have a motorcycle endorsement I will not recommend because the roads in Vieques are hilly and tricky). For the hardcore bicycle rental are also available (Keep in mind that Vieques is not completely flat and we have some small hills). If you prefer to be driven from place to place Vieques have taxi service and publicos (15 passenger bands that provide transportation from place to place).
the house have a large driveway where you can park your rental vehicle inside the property.
If you drive from the airport follow route 200 east for two or three minutes until you find the intersection with route 201, following route 200 the make a left on Calle 8 immediately after the intersection, drive down the road until you find La Casita on your left
The best way to learn a new place is by commingling with the local population. Quickly you will learn all the inside about the place. That is the experience I offer when you come to my house. I like to take 10 to 15 minutes to provide you with current information about the island, best places to go, restaurants, ect,. Vieques is much more than beautiful beaches come and meet the people.

Rosalind was fantastic. The house was great and provided a nice authentic experience of the island. It was safe, secure, and private. Rosalind was very helpful, providing advice on sights to see and places to visit via text message. When we needed help getting a taxi she responded right away. Fantastic host and fantastic place to stay.
The house was cute, clean , comfortable and secure. We had everything we needed. Close to town (Isabella 2). Thanks Rosalind for keeping in touch and making sure we were doing ok.
Nice and clean little house near to a beach. Even secured by alarm system. Rosalind has give many useful tips.We had a great time at hers
We had a WONDERFUL time in Vieques and loved staying at the Casita. The location was perfect - close to both Isabel II, as well as Esperanza and the beaches. The house was clean, on a quiet street (except for the roosters!) and had everything we needed for a perfect vacation. Thank you Rosalind for letting us enjoy your home!
A wonderful experience! The casita was peaceful, clean and well maintained. This was exactly the little getaway we were looking for.
Rosalind was very helpful when it came to providing information about the area as well as arranging the general logistics.
I would definitely recommend it!
The Casita was perfect for a month stay in Vieques. The house is clean and comfortable for a couple and has a large yard (important for our dogs who traveled with us). It is well equipped and the kitchen is sufficient for cooking dinners at home.
The neighborhood is a little ramshackle in a very Caribbean way , but it proved to be safe and the neighbors kind and welcoming (as Puerto Ricans usually are). The alarm and video cameras provided an extra level of safety. The WiFi, although slow, was sufficient to keep us connected to the outside world. Good AC in the bedrooms and good mattresses assured restful nights.
Rosalind was a very attentive and gracious host. Prior to our arrival she helped to arrange for our rental car and for a cleaning lady (the wonderful Tita), she picked us up at the ferry dock and promptly solved any small issues that happened.
Vieques is a marvel. The beaches are espectacular, there are great restaurants and is still very unspoiled. It does not feel touristy and it is not over developed, Viequenses were extremely smart to turn the navy base into the largest natural reserve in the Caribbean. It is like the Caribbean fifty years ago.
I would recommend the Casita to anybody that wants a comfortable place to stay on a budget in this incredible island.
La Casita is a great place to stay and you would be hard pressed to find a better value on the island. The house is cute, clean and conveniently located. Gas, groceries and a cash machines are right around the corner but the house is tucked away off of the main road in a relatively quite neighborhood. The neighborhood includes roosters that don’t seem to know the difference between night and day but that is the case over most of the island so just go with the flow. If you stay here, like us, you will adjust and be laughing about it in no time. I slept very well despite the roosters and the enthusiastic speakers in church next door that always ended promptly at 9PM. Rosalind provides lots of amenities from a blender to beach chairs and an adjustable pair of snorkeling fins, which I wore for hours on end swimming off of lovely La Chiva beach. There were lots of staples in the kitchen, which made cooking easy when we chose to do it but there are so many good and reasonable places to eat on the island we usually had our big meal at lunch and snacked for dinner. We were lucky enough to be there when Rosalind was on the island so we went on an adventure together to the black sand beach and ate at a roadside restaurant that we wouldn’t have thought to stop at otherwise. It was great food and supper affordable! (So glad you suggested we do that, Rosalind.) She knows the island and is happy to share info, so take advantage. I’m certainly going to pick her brain a little more before our next trip. The balance of her approach to AB&B is perfect. She is serious about maintaining high standards at her properties and she is very customer service oriented. At the same time, it’s like going to stay at a friend’s place because you are her priority and she is always available if you need anything. I’m pretty sure this is the experience that AB&B is going for. Rosalind hits the nail on the head! (Thanks, Sistah! We are already starting to talk about next year. I’ll keep you posted.)

About the Host, Rosalind
Hello friends, my name is Rosalind Ortiz; a local girl, mother of two beautiful daughters and happily married to Sergeant First Class Retired, Esteban Ortiz (US Army). I currently resided in Lafayette, Louisiana where I take care of my family and the maintenance and booking of my houses in Vieques; my hubby works for DOI as a Production Inspector for the oil industry in the Golf of Mexico. I am well familiar and I know all the ins and outs of the island, so take advantage and ask any questions you have in mind.
Since I moved to Lafayette I missed snorkeling in Rompe Olas, watch my daughters ride the waves in Playa Carracas, and the weekends in Sun Bay with my family and friends. I personally recommend taking your special person to Sun Bay and the Biobay ((website hidden)). I myself like to watch Vieques’ sunset with a bottle of wine or sparkling prosecco while enjoy the culinary skills of my lifetime friend Pablo and the endless jokes of my good friend Timmy’s. Pablo cooks the best Argentinian BBQ in the Caribbean (sorry guys he’s our private cook). I can't wait until I return for some R&R. Part of my previous job in Vieques was to counterpart with hotels and restaurants, and outdoor activities organizers so I am familiar with what is going on in Vieques. Come down and take advantage of everything the island has to offer.
