The Rustic Modern Tiny House. Handy dining bar, the sheet of metal we also got from a TV set, which we distressed by setting it out in the Portland rain for a few weeks.

Seen on the TV show "Tiny House Nation", CNN, Food & Wine Magainze, and the NY Post, the 350 sq ft Rustic Modern Tiny House was designed and built by us, your friendly AirBNB hosts. Guests call it "completely charming" and "the perfect urban getaway". Welcome! M+J

The space

For years we've been daydreaming about building a little house one day. Then we finally made it happen - using our own two hands (DIY! The Portland way!) and with the help of some great friends. We had a vision in mind, but a lot of the details came together as we built, based on what materials we had available to us.

Downstairs is the kitchen, living room with convertible couch, and bathroom with tiny clawfoot tub. Access the upstairs via STAIRS (not a ladder), where you'll find our loft bedroom with comfortable queen sized bed.

Sustainable design is important to us, and the house is constructed and furnished from an eclectic array of reclaimed materials - squirreled away over the years, and now creatively reused and repurposed. See photo captions for a detailed walkthrough of the house.

A PARTIAL SNAPSHOT
• The trim and shelves are reclaimed from an old shed that used to be on the property.
• Teak hardwood flooring, cedar shake siding - salvaged from high-end construction jobs.
• The wood-clad windows salvaged from a horse farm in the Oregon countryside.
• The kitchenette stove/refrigerator sourced from the Hood River History Museum.

Guest access

This is a stand-alone unit with your own dedicated street entrance into your private fenced front courtyard. And of course, the Tiny House is all yours! Total independence and privacy.

Interaction with guests

Our caretaker will make sure our home is prepared for you as we are not on-site. As our reviews show, we are easily on-hand via phone, text or email and love to give neighborhood recommendations!

To make it easier for you, we have a keyless entry for check in with your own code at your own convenience anytime after the 3pm checkin time.

Other things to note

We feature a premium queen mattress, crisp 100% cotton bedding and a fluffy feather duvet. TWO pillows per person - your choice of firm or med/soft. Towels are premium 100% cotton too.

All guest soaps (dish soap, hand soap, shower gel, shampoo) are natural plant-based soaps with essential oils.

Full HVAC system (air conditioning and heat) since June 2016.

BEFORE YOU BOOK
• Please be aware this is a handmade house, and we've taken a deliberately Rustic Modern approach. As such, set your expectations closer to “hand-crafted" rather than “Hilton".
• This is a tiny house. Which means - it is a tiny house. Proportions are scaled-down or modified. Stairs are comfortable to use, but steeper than standard stairs. The bathroom is definitely tiny! The bathroom sink is recessed - easy to wash your hands, but harder to brush your teeth/ wash your face. The bathroom also features a small clawfoot tub with shower head, you'll need to be able to step up into it.
• The upstairs ceiling is steeply sloped - you'll need to duck your head to enter and leave the loft. Once upstairs, the bedroom loft has enough headroom to comfortably stand if you are under 5'10". Taller folk will duck your head more often.
• The Tiny House is ideally set up for one/two adults. If you have different arrangement, please contact us prior to booking.

We love this little slice of DIY Portland, and hope to be able to share it with you.

Cheers,
Jenna and Michael

Our stay at Michael and Jenna's tiny house was also our first time in Portland. The home was absolutely beautiful and our entire stay exceeded our expectations. Very simple check in process, superb location and easily the coziest little home we've stayed in thus far!

This little spot is a gem! With many awesome restaurants and shops within walking distance. If you're looking for the perfect quaint spot to stay for a weekend away in quirky Portland this stop is a must.

It was very cool to stay in a tiny house- although this one was big enough to comfortably accommodate 2 people. Even though it's in a quiet, residential spot, it's about a block away from a fun street with good restaurants and boutiques. Michael and Jenna are easily reachable and even let us add a night to our trip at the last minute! We loved staying here.

The tiny house was amazing! The house was wonderfully stocked with everything you could need to make your stay perfect. Michael and Jenna were so accommodating and were able to get us a place to stay last minute and we could not have been happier with finding this gem. Michael called us on our way into the city after 10pm just to make sure we were doing okay and to give suggestions for places to eat/get a drink. Next time we find ourselves in Portland we will be hoping to find the tiny house open! Don't miss your chance to be in the best home in Portland xo
