A magical hand-crafted home in a vibrant walkable NE Portland location.
Welcome to the Rustic Modern Tiny House!
This house was designed and hand-built by us, your friendly AirBNB hosts. For years we’ve been daydreaming about “maybe building a house one day”. Then we finally made it happen - using our own two hands (DIY! The Portland way!) and with the help of some great friends (thanks, everyone!). We had a vision in mind, but a lot of the details came together as we built, based on what materials we had available to us.
Downstairs is the kitchen, living room with fold-down sleeper and bathroom with tiny clawfoot tub. Upstairs is the loft bedroom with comfortable queen sized bed.
Sustainable design is important to us, and the house is constructed and furnished from an eclectic array of reclaimed materials - squirreled away over the years, and now creatively reused and repurposed. See photo captions for a detailed walkthrough of the house.
*A partial snapshot:*
+ The trim and shelves are reclaimed from an old shed that used to be on the property.
+ Teak hardwood flooring, cedar shake siding - salvaged from high-end construction jobs.
+ The wood-clad windows salvaged from a horse farm in the Oregon countryside.
+ The kitchenette stove/refrigerator sourced from the Hood River History Museum.
+ The leather rug, a rescue donated from the Falcon Arts Community.
This is your own stand-alone unit. You have your own dedicated street entrance into a private fenced front yard, and of course, the Tiny House is all yours!
We are easily on-hand via phone, text or email, and love to give neighborhood recommendations! As we are not on-site, our caretaker will make sure our home is prepared for you.
We love our walk/bike friendly N. Williams Ave neighborhood - Sunset Magazine loves its “low-key urban vibe”, bustling with award-winning restaurants, bars, coffee shops, yoga and indie boutiques. Our street has even made an appearance or two on the TV show Portlandia.
The Tiny House is very close to all, yet nestled on a quiet tree-lined residential street - lots of easy parking!
+ A 5 minute bike ride to trendy Mississippi Avenue or 7 minute bike ride to Alberta Street. Even more shopping, restaurants, bars and coffee shops!
+ 15 minute bus ride to Rose Quarter Transit Center, a central transit hub to just about anywhere in Portland.
+ 7 minute drive/ 20 minutes via bus to downtown. Or 15 minutes via the Bike Highway one block away (a Portlander's preferred mode of transport).
+ Before you book please be aware this is a handmade house, and we’ve taken a deliberately Rustic Modern approach. As such, set your expectations closer to “hand-crafted” rather than “Hilton”.
+ As a Tiny House, proportions are scaled-down or modified. Stairs are comfortable to use, but steeper than standard stairs. The bathroom sink is recessed - easy to wash your hands, but harder to brush your teeth/ wash your face. The bathroom also features a small clawfoot tub with shower head, you’ll need to be able to step up into it.
+ The upstairs ceiling is steeply sloped - you’ll need to duck your head to enter and leave the loft. Once upstairs, the upstairs bedroom has enough headroom to comfortably stand and navigate if you are under 5'10" (if you're taller, you'll have to duck your head a bit more often).
+ This is our secondary residence and we are delighted to share it with you. Please read the house rules and be sure that you can honor them before booking.
We love this little slice of DIY Portland, and hope to be able to share it with you.

The tiny house was great! It was in a fun neighborhood with lots of shops and restaurants around. We really enjoyed our stay.
We completely loved our stay at the Tiny House in Portland! We'd considered staying at the Ace Hotel downtown, but I'm so glad we decided against it. Staying at the Tiny House introduced us to a fantastic neighborhood in Portland -- full of great food, cute houses, flowers blooming everywhere, and a wonderful retreat when we returned every evening of our trip. Thank you Michael and Jenny for creating this magical little house -- we hope to return someday!
The tiny house is a real gem - it's a unique space and beautifully furnished with a lot of thought and love put into it.
Check in was easy, it's extremely clean and Michael was very quick to communicate when ever we needed him.
The area is great with many bars, shops and restaurants near by. Jenny provides a great number of fantastic places to go and eat and hang out when you're in Portland.
The Tiny House is an adorable, craftsman house that was a snap to get to from the PDX airport. It's located near a few great restaurants (like Tasty n Sons) and a really nice market called New Seasons. The house itself is exactly as it looks in the AirBnb photos, and it was just as beautiful in person. We found it to be very cozy and it had everything we needed. Sleeping upstairs with the sloped ceilings imparted the feeling of being in a well-made treehouse.
Communication with Michael was also spot on; he was available for any issue that came up and responded immediately. In addition, Jenny also has an awesome list of restaurants/bars/good eats in Portland to check out on foursquare!
I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a very "Portland" experience, as it was a million times better than staying in a hotel. Thanks again, Michael and Jenny!
This place is as beautiful as it looks in the pictures. We loved it here and would stay again. Michael and Jenny were communicative and helpful hosts.
The tiny house was perfect for our honeymoon stay in Portland! The neighborhood was great with tons of things we could walk to. Michael was very accommodating and would message us every few days to make sure we didn't need anything. Thanks for everything!
so sweet tiny place. You have everything you need. Owner is a great artist who designed all the details to create a lovely space.
Where to even begin! Michael and Jenny's tiny abode is hands down the best roof I have ever spent a vacation under. Not only is it beautifully crafted and designed, but it provides such a nice, homey experience for its guests. (Not to mention, it was perfectly roomy and not cramped at all -- my parter in crime is 6' 5 and vouches for this.) Michael and Jenny are also extremely kind and generous hosts; they checked in on us periodically throughout our stay and were very accommodating. Next time we are in PDX there will be no question about where to spend our trip. Thanks M & J! :)
What a great little spot in NE Portland! This is seriously the hottest place to be in PDX right now, and this little house is the best antidote for the usual hotel room. It's cozy, with lavish attention paid to the small details. Our hosts were great and attentive too! We will be back as soon as we can!
Great place with good access to restaurants, bars and shopping right around the corner. Very clean and cute as well. Would definitely stay here again.
