We loved Marie and Raphael's gorgeous home in the Bywater. It was a great way to experience a real neighborhood and get a sense of the people of New Orleans. They were the most generous of hosts, and I would definitely recommend this warm and welcoming retreat to anyone visiting NOLA. We walked most places - which again was a good way to get to know the neighborhood - but I would recommend hiring bikes as it is a very bike-friendly area.
Marie and Raphael's place was gorgeous, just as pictured, spotlessly clean, and with all the amenities one would need, including a beautiful bathroom with great shower and very comfortable bed. They live next door and are available by text as well with any questions. They made great recommendations for places to bike to, and restaurants and cafes around NOLA. Their place is in a great location if you want to see Bywater, Marigny, hear music on Frenchman Street, bike around the Lower 9th ward-- all are just a bike ride or quick cab ride away. Great art galleries close by as well...and it was nice being in a real neighborhood, not a touristy one. We will definitely stay at their place again when we return to NOLA, which we hope will be soon.
We had such a lovely time staying at Raphael & Marie's place. It was a lot of fun to catch Raphael playing his genuine brand of music at the local bars and restaurants. We had to buy his 'Harmonouche' music CD! The house is so cute and decorated so nicely. One would never get this experience at a hotel. The back yard oasis smells of flowers and was a nice place to enjoy our morning coffee or evening wine. We never had a problem parking our rental car out front and everything was a short drive away. Some of our favorite restaurants are within 2 miles - Definitely try Maurepas Foods which is weekend only IIRC - it is amazing! The Bywayter is a nice place to catch great food and music.
My sister and I loved staying at this beuatiful house. The house was very relaxing to be in. It was designed beuatifully and looks much better in real life compared to the pictures (which are still lovely). The kitchen was my favourite part of the house, it was well stocked with so many quality glasses, bowls, pots, pans, even a fresh juicer. The house was also very well stocked with cleaning supplies, tissues, toilet paper etc. There were beuatiful linens, so many great books and DVDs to use, really everything we could have wished for to have a great stay.
Both Marie and Raphael were great hosts. Thank you for opening your lovely home to us! We really loved out stay.
We had a wonderful stay at Marie and Raf's place. They were so kind and knowledgeable, had recommendations for Restaurants, Concerts, Bars...
It was perfect, from the introduction and infos on the city over the perfectly equipped kitchen to the beautifully renovated place.
It's located in the bywater, an up and coming neighborhood, there are a lot of cool bars, bakeries, supermarkets and Restaurants in walkable reach.
The apt itself is beautifully furnished, Raf did a great job on the renovations and it has pretty much everything you'd need:)
I'm almost reluctant to say how fabulous it was to stay in Marie and Raphael's house in case we never get a booking again. The house with its eclectic furnishings, the historically layered vernacular architecture, the signs of post-Katrina reconstruction, the neighbourhood street life and community yoga, the dancing in bars that you have cycled to - everything fits the definition of anti-tourist tourism, right down to the wonderful hosts themselves with their Southern/French accents and muso credentials. We hired bikes for the week from Michaels on Frenchman street and never looked back. The two highlights of the week both involved dancing: one was getting swept into the coupled two-step at Tipitina's Cajun Fais Do-do on Sunday afternoon which seemed like a magical cross between a school dance and a rest home social, and watching my girlfriend upstaging King James and the Special Men at BJs Lounge. We may be mistaken but the impression we have of New Orleans is that one cares if you are young or old, straight or gay, so long as you can still light up a dance floor.
Marie and Raphael have a gorgeous, spacious, very clean and exceedingly comfortable place--in fact, it was hard to get out of the house every morning because it was so nice just hanging out! My husband and I had a fantastic time staying there and would recommend d it to anyone. Parking is easy, the back deck is great and there are great restaurants and bars nearby. Plus, Marie and Raphael are ideal hosts: friendly and full of helpful info, but private and quiet. We loved this place.
We had a wonderful stay at Marie and Raphael's place. They were very welcoming and thoughtful throughout our trip. They had a ton of useful recommendations for music and food, and when it was raining they sent suggestions for where to go in the neighborhood for food. And to top it off, Raphael is a very talented musician. We were lucky enough to get to see him perform at the Three Muses on Frenchman street. Something I'd love to do again if I get the chance.
Highly recommended, and hope to come back.
My adult son and I stayed in Marie's and Raphael's house in the Bywater and it was great for us. They have put in new appliances and there are dishes, glasses, utensils aplenty if a guest wanted to cook (we didn't). One can walk to the French Quarter (about 20 minutes) and they have a long list of suggested places to eat, drink and shop. Very quiet at night, too. We would go back.
Great hosts, they were happy to provide recommendations too. Home is very well-equipped, clean, and comfortable. Highly recommended!
