The Space

Stay walking distance away from the best that this city has to offer!

This is a barely lived-in 2011 luxury condo apartment (approx. 700sq) situated in the heart of downtown Ottawa. This new second floor unit includes: 1 bedroom (with a new Serta double mattress), a reading nook, WIFI, spacious sunny windows, a fully functional new kitchen with stainless steel appliances (stove/fridge/dishwasher/microwave), in-unit washer and dryer, shower/soaker tub, central air conditioning/heating with in-unit controls, blow dryer, fresh bedding and linens etc. The building includes: access to 3rd floor gym, indoor salt pool, dry sauna, party room and 24-hr concierge/security. Free street parking is available after certain hours +weekends and a parking lot is available directly behind the building.

Here is a breakdown of the amenities nearby:

Within a 1 min/1 block walk:
• Rexall drug store (downstairs)
• 24 hrs Metro grocery store (across the street)
• LCBO for wines, beers etc
• The Beer Store
• 2 coffee shops with WIFI
• bus stop at your doorstep

Within 7-10 min walk:
• Rideau Centre- premier Ottawa shopping destination
• Winterlude/Rideau Canal (great for a morning jog, skating, or after dinner walk)
• Byward Market (many lovely restaurants/boutiques/pubs/dance floors)
• Westin Hotel/ Ottawa Convention Centre/ University of Ottawa/ Château Laurier
• Numerous libraries and book stores (including Chapters)
• Strathcona Park
• Various embassies
• Parliament Hill
• Arts Gallery of Ottawa/National Arts Centre
• Many more bus stops (at Rideau Centre)
• Numerous government buildings

What’s with the great price?

From some of my friends who have stayed at my place said that during the night they could sometimes hear shouts of the happily inebriated from Rideau St. That being said, I know that these same shouts can also be heard from the 20th floor of our building. I am a decent sleeper so I haven’t really noticed.

I am a very friendly, born and raised Ottawa-ette and I will answer any questions you may have within a couple of hours. Travelling is a passion of mine and I would love to know: What brings you to Ottawa? How long are you looking to stay? What would you like to see? I know the city like the back of my hand and I would love to give in-city pointers and suggestions :D

Happy trip-planning!
Stacey

  • My stay in Ottawa was more than great in Stacey's flat. I give my highest recommendation!

  • My wife stayed at this Condo from May 13 to 21, 2014 while attending our daughter's graduation from the University Of Ottawa, only a short distance away. First, I am writing on her behalf, as she sits next to me. "I must say that the photos included with this listing were entirely accurate. The condo is clean, bright, centrally located and beautiful. While I did not have an opportunity to meet Stacey, her contact prior to arrival via e-mails were warm and friendly and I have no doubt Stacey would have solved any problem immediately, had one arisen. Arrival at the condo and gaining access was smooth and easy. On the constructive side, one of the photos shows a flat screen television clearly. However, Stacey left a note stuck to the screen that there was no television service available because "she did not watch tv". I enjoy watching television and I suspect many visitors might feel the same. Furthermore, I am a big hockey fan and wanted to watch the Stanley Cup playoffs during my stay. This was not possible. Would it not be better just to use the 'on-off' switch if you don't want to watch? As many reviews point out, the large windows do not have curtains or any covering. While this did not bother some of the reviewers, situated on the second floor with clear and unobstructed view of the street below was disturbing for me. From the photos i had not realized the condo was so close to street level. This was most disconcerting. As one reviewer says: "You an make eye contact with people on the street". The washroom is located at the opposite end of the living room from the bedroom so it is necessary to walk past the windows at night, with lights on. This might be a concern for others as well. Although the listing mentions 'all amenities', there was no coffee maker provided. I love my morning coffee and in the morning it was necessary for me to walk down the street to get my 'fix'. This is a small and inexpensive item and is considered an essential amenity by most travellers. There are no small end-table or coffee tables so it is also necessary to place things on the sofa. Another small and inexpensive consideration. While it is true that the condo is in a great location for restaurants and bars and good shopping, it is also true that it is located near to two men's missions for the homeless. The liquor store and bars are a magnet for many of them and I encountered too many annoying 'beggars' whenever I went out. As an unescorted woman this was unnerving to say the least. I am reluctant to provide negative comments on Stacey's condo. It was not represented and, as many reviewers point out, it is a lovely condo in a good location. However, it seems to me that the 'issues' I have raised (and these have been raised by...

  • The suite was at the perfect location, very bright, clean and quiet. I really enjoyed staying at Stacey's place. I highly recommend this place to other travelers and I will definitely try to stay there again when I am visiting Ottawa. Thanks Stacey! Tatjana

  • Stacey was a great host. When I complained that there was no iron/ironing board (I was there for a conference), she went out and bought a hand steamer and got it in the place before I arrived. Very kind!

As for the place itself, it is really roomy and a nice spot for someone visiting the city (close to all other hotels, the convention centre, Chateau Laurier, etc). It was nice to have access to the condo's fitness centre and pool. I did find it strange that there are no window coverings on most of the windows. Those windows look out onto a very busy corner and plenty of people would look up when they saw me moving around. That didn't bother me too much, but this definitely isn't the place for someone who would be shy in that kind of situation. You're totally on display!

Overall the price was right and the location can't be beat. Worked well for me!

  • I spent a month at this location. The condo is clean and conservatively decorated. No bedside table and a table lamp sitting on the floor meant lighting was sparse in the bedroom. No cable TV so bring your wifi-enabled device and an HDMI connector if you want to have any video entertainment.

Kitchen was well outfitted. Lots of fridge, counter and storage space available. En suite laundry was definitely a plus if you're doing an extended stay. No iron or ironing board, however.

As others have mentioned there is no privacy with the entire wall being glass, and the condo being on the 2nd floor means you're about 12' off the sidewalk level. Also the condo is also over the main entrance so you can hear the security telephone every time a guest dials a resident.

Overnight parking in the area is tough to find as most lots only accept payment up to 6am. I ended up parking one block away at the Quality Inn for $18/night, which added over $400 to my stay over the month.

Lots of student population in the area meant that there were citizens shouting until nearly 3am on Friday and Saturday nights. The main street in front of and the side street beside the condo are also highway truck transport corridors so be prepared for heavy traffic from about 6am-9pm daily as well.

  • Great location. We walked everywhere! Nice clean condo and Stacey was great to deal with.

  • Exactly as described. A little city noise at bedtime, but that's what comes from being so close to the action. It didn't go too late into the night.
Getting in and out was easy (thanks to the excellent lock box system Stacey has) so late night arrival wasn't an issue.
I was a little bright for sleeping, so remember an eye cover thing and the place is perfect.
    Thanks

  • We had a great time in Stacey's condo in Ottawa. The pictures on the site do a great job of setting expectations and the place is exactly the same as the pictures. The location of the place is brilliant everything is super close and convenient. The living room doesn't have curtains but we didn't have too much of a problem with that.

About
I'm Stacey and I'm born and raised in Ottawa. This is my downtown condo that I am looking to fill with friendly out of towners! I love to travel, read, eat delicious food, watch nature documentaries and cook with friends. Many of the best moments in my life were during travelling. I’ve been lucky enough to experience Tokyo, Hiroshima, Matsui, Bangkok, Koh Phi Phi, Okinawa, Koh Samui, Osaka, Singapore, Kuala Lampur (Petaling Rd!), San Fran, Macau, NYC, Borneo, Hong Kong, Sydney, Melbourne, and all over the Philippines. I’m a big animal lover and favour KL and Thailand for their gentle elephants, Borneo for its orang-utan conservation park and bat caves, and swimming with whale sharks in Byron Bay, Sydney and Donsol, Philippines. For me, travelling is my passion and there is nothing like seeing something that blows your mind and stays burned in your memory for many years to come!
