The space

Siesta Y Sol is a recently remodeled condominium in the Bahia Suites building, located in the historic Madera neighborhood of Zihuatanejo, Mexico.

Zihuatanejo is the dream "getaway" talked about in the movie "The Shawshank Redemption". Originally a fishing town, Zihuatanejo provides a blend of relaxed beaches, friendly people, and an easy going lifestyle, with all of the amenities of a vibrant tourist town.

Located in the state of Guerrero, Mexico, Zihuatanejo is a beach paradise that offers many activities: deep sea fishing, sailing, scuba diving, snorkeling, biking, exploring, surfing, water skiing, horseback riding, hiking, parasailing, live music, local arts, and much more. Local cuisine ranges from authentic taco stands to fine beachside dining featuring locally caught fresh seafood.

The narrow downtown streets hide excellent local restaurants, bars, boutique shops and artisan studios. Three main beaches, Playa Madera, Playa La Ropa and Playa Municipal are all within a short walk on the beachside path, a quick bus hop or cab ride.

Zihuatanejo can be reached by air, bus and highway and has its own international airport.

Apartment amenities include:
-- Full kitchen with cook top, refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven and coffee pot.

Very nice and big apartment! We were 4 there and there was a lot of space for us. The area is nice and only 2 min walking to the beach. The building is peaceful!

This is in the perfect place to enjoy beach life and local people, who are so friendly. Prices are very reasonable. There is a lovely little shop close by and a huge supermarket within 15 minute walk or a 35 peso taxi ride. The surf is much safer for children than Ixtapa. We will be back.

Stayed 3 nites. The location was excellent. Close to beach, town, restaurants. It was clean. A/c invaluable in June. Chairs & tables were just funtional. Next time will try seaside for some breeze. Tried 3 beaches. Took water taxi to Plata Las Gatas. Rocky beach. Snorkeling was marginal. Took cab ($130-$150 pesos each way) then water taxi ($40 pesos/person round trip) to Playa Coral week day. Better snorkeling and strong waves. Good sandy beach at Playa la Ropa which is walking distance. Could also walk to Las Gatas from La Ropa. But water taxis ride ($40/person) was nice. At the beach you rent a table/chairs by ordering drinks & food. Snorkeling mask & flippers $50-$90 pesos/person.

When we arrived, the room we were going to stay in had some problems with something but Carmen ( the property manager) was able to give us another room, which was fantastic! The view of playa Madera was amazing but unfortunely there was a miscommunication because it was for 2 people and we were 5 and I definitely could not have my mom sleep in the hammock ( the hammock was still pretty sweet though) Carmen was able to put us in another room with the same awesome view of the beach and city. It was big enough for all 5 of us, really clean, and a friendly security guard to call a taxi for you at night. My mom seemed kind of iffy about it at first but she grew to love it! Beach access is super close ( right next to the building) and you can walk to pier where you can take a boat to playa Las Gatas or Downtown Zihua by taking the seaside trail at the north end of the beach. There was lightning during our stay and looked amazing out from our open air windows. My girlfriend and I got caught in the rain; it was totally something out of a Jimmy Buffet song, though I can't remember which one. Definitely would recommend!

Robert's home was wonderful, right over an excellent beach and with a great pool! The place was incredibly clean and very comfortable. There are good restaurants on the beach, which was accessible right down the stairs next to the building. He has a property manager who was available to greet us and provide us with information and anything we needed help with. The place was just a few minutes by taxi or boat from Playa Ropa, where we went one day for a change of scenery. We would definitely stay here again.

We had a lovely time at Siesta Y Sol. Zihuatenejo is a beautiful little town that provided rest, relaxation, phenomenal fresh seafood and lots of sun! The apartment is a great layout for many types of groups: one couple, two couples, or a family. We stayed here with our two young sons and had plenty of room and privacy. There are essentially two bedrooms (there's a murphy bed and futon in the main living area) as well as a large bed in the master bedroom, along with two full bathrooms. This made putting the boys down for bedtime easy, while allowing the parents to stay up later and have privacy. Each room also has a patio with a lovely view of the surrounding hillside. The kitchen was fuctional and fully stocked with cooking essentials (oil, salt, pepper, etc.). We also had a large supply of bottled water and fuctioning appliances. The condominium is well run and there was always someone on hand to help out with a quick fix, along with evening security guards. The pool was beautiful, with a breathtaking view of the ocean. It was nice having the option of walking downstairs for a swim in the pool, or to the beach below (Playa Madera) is about a 5 minute walk! We spent many evenings strolling the little street below the condo (Calle Adelita) and had many delicious meals. Walking to the center of town is also easy. I ran several days a week along the path that parallels the ocean. You can't beat waking up for a run on the beach just out your doorstep! We loved Zihua, the condo and everything about our stay. We hope to return someday!

Stayed at Siesta y Sol w/ two sons and my daughter for three nights last week: what a fantastic place! Everything was exactly as advertised, except there's no way to convey what a good apartment and location this is until you actually stay there. The building is on the first row overlooking Playa Madera, a really nice beach with exceptional sand & surf (best bodysurfing spot we found in Zihuatanejo by far because of the direction of the waves entering the bay). There are a bunch of good restaurants just a block away (down a steep hill), and the main part of the town (tons of shops, other restaurants, etc.) is but a 10-15 minute walk. My only regret is that we weren't able to stay longer to enjoy more of what Zihuatanejo has to offer... thank you Siesta y Sol for helping to make the trip of a lifetime!!!

My Cindy and I are retired healthcare professionals that live in beautiful Bend, Oregon. We have many years of Mexican travel, however seven years ago, we fell in love with Colonio La Madera in Zihuatanejo, and after several return trips, decided to make it a seasonal home to escape Central Oregon winters. We love it here and we know that those who visit Siestaysol will understand why.
