We had a nice stay. Everything was fine. The room was perfect and also the bathroom was clean. The flat is really close to the tram station.
The Red Room is very clean and the perfect size for two people. The location is a little far from the main attractions in Rome (30-35 min walk), but manageable if you don't mind walking a bit. The apartment is also not too far from the 8 tram which will take you into the center of Rome. We had some trouble finding the apartment when we first arrived- it was late and street signs are not clearly visable- but Apollonia's brother was easy to reach and helped us locate the apartment.
The shower is very small and not very clean. If you are a larger person, I wouldn't recommend this apartment. The wifi worked most of the time, but was a little slow.
Overall, the Red Room was great for my stay and I would definitely recommend it if you don't mind staying a little outside of the main attractions in Rome.
Room was relatively OK for the price although if you can spare a few more pounds a night there are better options.
When we arrived to the apartment there was a bit of a damp smell and there was some old food left in the fridge.
The shower is tiny and looks quite old and full of mould. When we called Apollonia about the shower not draining properly she went defensive and blamed us for throwing stuff in the toilet? Nonsense!. Anyway., after an email argument she apologised and next morning they fixed the problem so we could use the shower.
Also she has other apartments in the building and all the guests have been told to press the same buzzer to get the external gate opened. We had to listen to everybody pressing the buzzer as they came in, which is quite annoying.
Location is near Trastevere but not exactly in the historical area but in a residential area next to it. Communications are not bad and distances in Rome are not that big so is OK if you can walk 20/25 minutes to the centre. There is also some bus stops in the main road next to the apartment.
Internet worked fine (just a bit slow as it works on 3G) but it was a bit flaky and requires unplugging and plugging the router from time to time,
Overall, we didn't have any major problems but I wouldn't recommend this apartment unless you cannot find anything else in the area.
Above, a list of why we do not recommend you to book at this « guest house » :
1- The Red Room is not a guest house but a rented appartment. We never meet the landlord and never talked with Appollonia directly... If you are looking for conviviality, don't book here.
2- We tried to reach Appollonia by email and phone a week before our stay but they never gave us an answer. Worse : they just sent us an email the night before our arrival (email that we were not aware of)
3- Lack of soundproofing. We could understand conversations from the outside
4- The guests who rented a room in one of the three apartments rented by Appollinia (maybe more, but after a survey with other guests we figured that 3 appatments were rented by the same landlord) had the instruction to buzz at our bell to open the frontdoor. We were always woken up during the night.
5- Our room door was secured by an electronic lock but it didn't work so well. It took us each time at least 10 try to open the door.
6- We found mealworms in the kitchen...
+ very good, in Trastevere, near to Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere, where all the restaurants are, near to the tram and bus station
+ the appartment gets cleaned at least twice a week
- everybody seems to know that you have to buzz at the appartment to get into the house so it happens all the time that someone is ringing early in the morning or in the middle of the night and you wake up
+ bright and clean, as shown on the pictures
- you need adapters for all the plug ins
+ there are two adapters in the room
- Wlan does not really work, sometimes it's okay, mostly not and you seem to have a contingent so when you surf a bit more the bandwidth is reduced
- the room is really near to the steelgate of the house, it's very loud when people are coming an going and shutting the door
- the shower is a mess, really small, only about 60x60cm, the entrance is about 30cm, old and mouldy, the shower stall is damaged
+ the rest of the bath is quite new and clean
- the fridge is very loud and near to the room, is annoying
- there's no opportunity to relly get fresh air
- old and not very well fitted
The room was perfect for my friend and I and was in a great location. The internet worked perfectly for us!
Room looks exactly like the picture shown. Apollonia and her brother were easy to get in touch and very responsive all the questions we had regarding our first visit to Rome. It was wonderful!
The beds were perfect size for me and my mother. Plenty of sheets/blankets and air-conditioning was perfect to cool down to after a long day of touring.
Shower in bathroom is small, any larger person may have trouble washing.
Thanks for a wonderful and comfortable stay!
