The Friendship Villa is 3h drive away from Colombo airport if you take the new expressway. The closest train station is the one in Galle, which is 10 minutes drive away from our place.
We are still having some small constructions at the house but be assured that you wont be bothered by that.
You might run into Sri-Lankan neighbours and monks around the friendship villa. Please respect them by covering yourself at the temple or on the way to the beach. Thank you!
We initially booked a couple of nights and ended up staying one more. This amazing guest house is located in the jungle area about ten minutes from Galle by tuk-tuk. Jagath built the whole building himself and it is surrounded by all sorts of trees so as soon as you come out of your bedroom you are welcomed by some beautiful views. From your bedroom you can hear birds chirping and monks of the nearby temple singing at dawn. The bed was very big and comfy with a mosquito net. There is a hammock for you to relax and read by the dinner table.
Jagath took us around the Galle fort and took us snorkeling in what's left of the reef and we saw some amazing fish. His son Ashan is a very good tuk-tuk driver and was happy to drive us around. He's a safe driver and always has a smile on his face.
I thought the best experience was the cooking lesson with Rassika, the lady of the house. She patiently showed us how to make five different types of curry and cooking with her in her own kitchen felt very special. You can have breakfast and dinner at the guesthouse and every meal was absolutely delicious.
The first night Jagath gave us a tour of their garden, they grow everything organically and have an endless amount of fruit, herbs and trees.
Jagath's daughters are super sweet and it was really fun to talk to them and find more about what growing up in Sri Lanka is like.
All in all we had a wonderful time here and felt extremely welcome. Highly recommended!
My husband and I stayed there for 3 nights and we really appreciated our experience!
The hosts (a couple with his 2 daughters and 1 son) are very very welcoming : The dad is from the fort (one of the oldest family) and will give you a lot of stories about the Sri Lanka and Galle especially (history, good places, tips, etc) - The mum is an excellent cook who can serve you delicious meals if you want - The 2 daughters are always smiling and very helpful - The son is a tuk tuk driver that you can use if needed.
The rooms (we had the one named MOON on the top left) are clean, cool (a fan is there), have an insect net, hot water and with a beautiful view on the jungle. The villa is located 10 MN from the fort (200 Rs for a tuk tuk).
It is definitely a place to stay for a good price (25 dollars)!
Jagath is a super friendly and more than helpful host.
Rasika is a wonderful cook, outstanding fish dinner and super breakfast.
Ashan is a super safe and reliable tuk tuk driver.
The rest of the family is just so warm hearted, everybody came out of the house to welcome us.
House is clean and a mosquito net over the bed is really helpful.
Can just recommend it for everyone.
We stayed in the moonroom for four nights in April. The room was very pretty, spotlessly clean and had a nice character. It comes with a terrace that offers a spectacular view of the jungle full of singing birds. The host family are extremely friendly and very helpful. Jagath told us a lot about sri lankan culture, showed us his organic garden and as he put it was available to us 24/day. His wife Rasika is the best cook making awesome breakfast and dinner using only local fresh organic produce. We also took her cooking class which we found extremely helpful and now cannot wait to cook all the curries she showed us to our friends. She does the class for only 2people to pass on as much hands on experience as possible.they also have a tuktuk available to you whenever needed. If you want to experience authentic SRiLanka this is definitely the place! If you are planning to visit Galle, I think this is the best accommodation, only 10 min by tuktuk with all the benefits of staying with local people.
The first time I heard from the friendship villa was in a hostel near Colombo where another backpacker told me how great the place was he just came from, and because galle was anyways my next stop I thought, why do I not give it a try? So I booked two nights at the friendship villa and in the end I stayed 5. The first thing you see when entering the garden are the beautiful trees and plants with any kind of fruit you can imagine. And this good impression you get stays throughout your whole visit. The family (Jagath, his wife and the two daughters) are really nice, caring and heartwarming people. I always felt welcome and Jagath made sure from the first moment, he would help 24/7 that I have the perfect stay in his home, and it was. From the first moment on I thought i would be living with good old friends. If you want you can have dinner in the evening, which I highly recommend (I had the dinner every evening), because the cooking skills of rassika are remarkable. You can get a cooking lesson if you want as well. It's located just outside of galle, where it's not that busy. Their son, ashan, can take you anywhere you want for a really fair price by Tuktuk. In the morning I took surfing lessons and after that I visited all those great places here. If you ask jaghat he can arrange a whale watching tour in Mirissa/ diving or snorkeling in galle or a visit to the sinharaja rain forest. If you want you can rent their moped and discover the places around by yourself. In the end I can say that I'd recommend it to anyone and that I was sad to leave.
The family are all amazing people! I had many good jokes and conversation with them. I had no problems and felt very safe. I was reassured that if I had any problems they would help 24/7. There is a nice garden where the family grow many fruits. Occasionally you can see monkeys jumping around the trees, fire flys in the evening and one day an iguana walked though the garden. The room I had was very big clean with good clean bathroom. They offer breakfast of veg rotti or egg rotti, bread and pineapple with tea or coffee. The curry and rice for dinner is delicious and if you like you can have a lesson on how to cook. There is also a fridge filled with cold beers and water! Their son has a tuk tuk and will take you to Galle fort for about 350 rupees and will pick you up if you arrange a time, or you can rent a moped. The place is not too difficult to find as its near a fairly well known Buddhist temple. They also 2 beautiful daughters who smile and laugh a lot. There also a laundry service.
I had a very nice time and found it difficult to leave. Highly recommend this place
