Our 100 year old villa has been undergoing years of restoration and renovation. We now can offer guests a separate section of the house with two queen bedrooms, each with ensuite (toilet, shower, basin) and garden view. The rooms have private entrances via French doors and ample outside space to hang out on the porch or in the yard. Guests can park outside their room. The two rooms share a lounge with seating for watching TV/DVD, relaxing or enjoying a cuppa. There are tea and coffee making facilities in the lounge and we provide milk and a baked item in the mornings so guests don't leave on an empty stomach. There are no cooking facilities but Kaikoura has numerous dining and takeaway options. If you absolutely need to cook, check out Blue Heron Bungalows which are self contained holiday homes right next door.
Our house is 80 m from the sea, a short walk to Dolphin Encounter and a 10-15 minute walk to town. The Kaikoura peninsular track can be reached by crossing the street.
Very quiet, comfortable and great value.

This was one of our most favourite airbnb stop, from the gorgeous garden, to the meticulately designed rooms and the really welcoming host. Susan happily took us around her garden, and was helpful at suggesting places for dinner. And the homemade light breakfast the day after really made it all perfect. We're very happy with our stay and would love to come back and stay longer! One night was definitely not enough.
Our host, Susan, was very friendly and helpful. The room was great with an en suite and own entrance . We had use of a shared lounge where breakfast was ready and waiting in the morning .. delicious fruit and some cake. Tea and coffee facilities were available at any time. The gardens outside were very pretty. The accommodation is well situated, with eating places and shops close by - not to mention the sea! Great place.
We loved staying at Blue Heron House, a peaceful and elegant wee oasis. The room was stylish and comfortable, the neighbourhood was quiet but right by the beach, and Susan and Billy were very congenial and helpful. Absolutely recommended.
A lovely peaceful atmosphere with beautiful decor and excellent shower. We enjoyed our unique breakfast and Susan was very welcoming, informative and interesting. We would definitely stay there again.
A quaint house just 2 mins from the sea, this is a really charming place to stay. Given our schedule, we didn't get to meet Susan until the second day but had a good chin wag about NZ and more. Lovely setting and great bed, recommend both blue heron and Kaikoura in every way!
The Blue Heron was a lovely bnb in a quiet and accessible location, beautiful gardens, large, pretty, and clean facilities. Susan was a great host providing knowledgeable advice for dinner and sightseeing. The morning snack was excellent; enough to get you going and Susan was considerate in bringing in our laundry when the weather began to turn misty. Can't go wrong with this stay. Thanks Susan.
We only stayed one night at Susan's place but we had a great time.
The bedroom and the ensuite bathroom are very well-furnished and particularly clean and tidy.
The location is perfect if you're planning the dolphin encounter as it is only a 5 minute-walk away.
Although the breakfast is light (as specified in Susan's description), it is very good and made of home-made cake and fresh fruits from her garden!
We would definitely stay at Susan's place if we had the chance to visit Kaikoura again.

Billy, my Kiwi husband, and I have lived in Kaikoura since 2001. Ten years earlier on a NZ cycling trip, we decided Kaikoura should eventually be our home. In the past 30 years we've lived in W. Africa, the U.S., the Middle East, Europe and S.E. Asia. We still enjoy traveling as much as possible, usually by bicycle. However, Kaikoura has indeed become our home and we'd love to help you enjoy it.
