Our 100 year old villa has been undergoing years of restoration and renovation. We now can offer guests a separate section of the house with two queen bedrooms, each with ensuite (toilet, shower, basin) and garden view. The rooms have private entrances via French doors and ample outside space to hang out on the porch or in the yard. Guests can park outside their room. The two rooms share a lounge with seating for watching TV/DVD, relaxing or enjoying a cuppa. There are tea and coffee making facilities in the lounge and we provide milk and a baked item in the mornings so guests don't leave on an empty stomach. There are no cooking facilities but Kaikoura has numerous dining and takeaway options. If you absolutely need to cook, check out Blue Heron Bungalows which are self contained holiday homes right next door.
Our house is 80 m from the sea, a short walk to Dolphin Encounter and a 10-15 minute walk to town. The Kaikoura peninsular track can be reached by crossing the street.

I highly recommend staying here. My room and the large community room were both very comfortable. My host was friendly and provided helpful tips on restaurants and activites. Breakfast included fruit picked fresh from the garden. The home is located on a nice quiet street about a 15 minute walk along the shore to town.
My first time using AirBNB and it was s wonderful experience. My room was spot clean, quiet, and amid a beautiful garden. Couldn't ask for a better location. Bill was friendly and super helpful. Gem of a find!! The fresh blackberries with breakfast were delicious!!!
Billy & Susan were great hosts, picking us from the train station and making us feel at home in the comfortable room. The place is in a quiet neighbourhood, great for unwinding and just getting out to take in the sights of Kaikoura.
We are happy that we had stayed at Blue Heron House. We didn't meet Susan, but Billy was a perfect host. Just by entering the lovely garden we felt very relaxed, and the corner room was great. We had delicious blackberries in the morning, fresh from the garden. Just follow the recommendations for dinner, you won't be disappointed.
Blue Heron House was lovely, super clean and had everything we needed. Breakfast was delicious too. Thank you for having us.
Had a lovely stay at blue heron house. Very comfortable room and bed, fantastic shower en-suite! Billy was very accommodating and very kindly picked our bags up from the train and kindly dropped us back to the station the next morning- which helped so much on our brief stay. The house has lovely gardens, is in a nice peaceful area. We had a really nice meal at the pier restaurant, which is just along the road.

Billy, my Kiwi husband, and I have lived in Kaikoura since 2001. Ten years earlier on a NZ cycling trip, we decided Kaikoura should eventually be our home. In the past 30 years we've lived in W. Africa, the U.S., the Middle East, Europe and S.E. Asia. We still enjoy traveling as much as possible, usually by bicycle. However, Kaikoura has indeed become our home and we'd love to help you enjoy it.
