Our 100 year old villa has been undergoing years of restoration and renovation. We now can offer guests a separate section of the house with two queen bedrooms, each with ensuite (toilet, shower, basin) and garden view. The rooms have private entrances via French doors and ample outside space to hang out on the porch or in the yard. Guests can park outside their room. The two rooms share a lounge with seating for watching TV/DVD, relaxing or enjoying a cuppa. There are tea and coffee making facilities in the lounge and we provide milk and a baked item in the mornings so guests don't leave on an empty stomach. There are no cooking facilities but Kaikoura has numerous dining and takeaway options. If you absolutely need to cook, check out Blue Heron Bungalows which are self contained holiday homes right next door.
Our house is 80 m from the sea, a short walk to Dolphin Encounter and a 10-15 minute walk to town. The Kaikoura peninsular track can be reached by crossing the street.
Very quiet, comfortable and great value.

Susan was a wonderful host. She welcomed us upon arrival and showed us through our room and house. She provided useful tips on places to eat and things to do. The room itself is beautiful: spacious and warm, and lovingly decorated. The house has also been beautifully restored and features a gorgeous garden filled with a wide variety of edible plants. While we endured lots of rain, i can see this being a beautiful spot to sit back with a good book and a cup of tea after a few hours spent cuddling kaikouras seals and whales.
Blue Heron house is such a lovely home. Our room warm and cosy, and the sitting room a delight. The house was a short walk to the center of town and close to an entry point for the Kaikoura Peninsula Walkway. Susan and Billy were the perfect hosts, friendly, had excellent local knowledge and the breakfasts, especially the whole meal yoghurt pound cake and fruit fresh from their garden was wonderful. Peter and I highly recommend this accommodation. Thank you for such lovely memories.
We spent a fantastic two days Susan and Billy in Kaikoura. They were great to communicate with both before and during our stay and were very flexible when we asked to add an extra day to our stay. After three weeks of travel, their home was the perfect oasis of quiet and peace where we could re-charge our batteries. Each day we were greeted with a home-made pastry and fresh fruit from the garden for breakfast and each afternoon we enjoyed interesting and stimulating conversation with them. The accommodations were excellent with an en-suite and our own living area adjacent to the bedroom. We cannot imagine a better home at which to stay when travelling to Kaikoura.
The house is really nice, very impressive. The bedrooms & lounge are very nice. We only spent one night.
Susan and Billy took good care of me. A great thank you for the welcome . The room was spacious, clean and a TV lounge. Susan has prepared a list of things to do and restaurants to try , very good idea. Laurent
Susan and Billy were excellent hosts and made me feel incredibly welcome and offered great advice about the area and where to eat! The room itself is gorgeous and very cosy indeed with a lovely deck out onto their fantastically cared for garden. I couldn't have felt more relaxed! A beautiful and peaceful spot, I only wish I had been able to stay longer.

Billy, my Kiwi husband, and I have lived in Kaikoura since 2001. Ten years earlier on a NZ cycling trip, we decided Kaikoura should eventually be our home. In the past 30 years we've lived in W. Africa, the U.S., the Middle East, Europe and S.E. Asia. We still enjoy traveling as much as possible, usually by bicycle. However, Kaikoura has indeed become our home and we'd love to help you enjoy it.
