A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY
The tower portion dates back to 1146. The rest of the building was added on in the 1400s , 1600s and 1800s. Many lives were saved during WWII by my grandfather who risked his own, by offering hiding and shelter to total strangers in this villa. We want to continue this tradition by welcoming people from all over the world. Our children are the 6th generation in this home.
WIFI, use of washing machine and drier (with assistance, and at 2€ per load including detergent and softener). Also, ADDITIONAL OFFERS AT THE TOWER:
If you are planning a quiet evening in the tower but do not feel like cooking (or plan to return from your sightseeing right at dinner-time), we can prepare an all Tuscan simple but complete dinner to await you when you return, including wine and dessert. Cost: 20€ per person, 2 people minimum. Children 15€ each (if they don’t drink wine!). Children under 5, free
Please check for availability.
2) Take a fun hands-on COOKING LESSON where you learn how to make pasta from scratch.
Time is flexible, we like to adjust to your schedule when possible.
That comes in 3 options:
A) take the 2–hour class and walk upstairs to your own private kitchenette with your freshly made pastas, as well as 1 freshly made sauce to dress them with. Make your own dinner with your hand-made creations!
50€, for 2 people. 25€ for every additional person.
B) take the 2–hour class, and walk to your tower dining room with all of the above, plus wine, bruschetta, frittata or quiche and home-made dessert.
40€ per person.
C) - All of the above, consumed here on the premises (downstairs from the tower, same building. You can come in your slippers if you'd like!). The bonus: beautiful views, unlimited toppings of wine, and coffee. And you don’t have to do the dishes! Cost per person: 50€
Also, WIFI, free parking, BBQ in the common garden, cooking class, village with food supplies out the driveway.
We live in the building, right at your doorstep! You have all the privacy (the tower apartment is all for you, with private entrance, bathroom and kitchen etc) but we are a knock away if you need help, wish to borrow some food or kitchen utensils, or are simply in the mood to share a glass of wine or cup of tea or coffee with us, and hear the history of this place.
We may be on vacation a few weeks in the summer, or a week end here and there. When so, Majla's mother Eva, who lives on the premises, will make sure you have assistance in case of need.

NO RESTAURANT WALKING DISTANCE, but you can buy all the food you need to make your own meals. Very nice family stile trattoria only 5 minutes driving from home, and a warm dish of pasta in the village community centre.
20 minutes drive to Florence, or 45 minutes by bus. Use of car not necessary if you are planning to just visit Florence during the day and simply relax and enjoy the countryside, but HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for evening outings and explorations of Tuscany.

The tower is an incredible place that oozes atmosphere and history. The views from the top are stunning. Great location to explore both Florence and Chainti...especially if you want to get off the tourist trail. The bus (that stops practically outside the door) was very handy. Majla and Marco were very welcoming in opening their home to travelers.
This is the perfect Tuscan experience. The tower has such a beautiful family history (it was built in the 1100s and be sure to ask about majla's grandfather and his heroic efforts to hide jews in the tower during WWII.) From the roof top (that you can access from your bedroom) you will be looking over the incredible hills and valleys of Italy. The courtyard and grounds are like something out of an italian movie. There is a wonderful little village at the end of the long driveway with local merchants.
Keep in mind this is a watch tower. You can see all the way to Florence. Towers arent built on the first floor. There are lots of steps but so worth the effort. Mijla is sweet, kind and caring and speaks perfect English. She offers additional Tuscan experiences on her property. You can learn to make pasta from scratch and share a true Tuscan meal with fellow travelers. You can take a wine tour and learn how wine and olive oil is made. You can walk through the neighborhood and up to an ancient monestary.
The tower is comfortable and has everything you need to feel like you've experienced the real and trueTuscany.
Beautiful and charming. Stay in Majla's small castle was a completely outstanding experience. The place itself is wonderful, full of color and surrounded by nature. Around the area you can find groceries stores that are more than enough to have a pleasant stay. I recommend one very close full of amazing cheeses. Firenze is just a couple of mins by car.
Communication since the beginning was very fast and precise, instructions to get there are very accurate.
Thank you for the delicious wine and for let us be part of this place even if it was for a couple of days. 100% recommended.
Our stay at the Watchtower was perfect in every way. Majla was a wonderful host. The yard is wonderful and relaxing. Our family of six enjoyed our stay as we visited Florence. The bus to the city was easily accessible. We were also able to shop for food at a nearby grocery store and cook and eat dinner and breakfast atop the terrace surrounded by the beautiful lush rolling green hilled countryside. Across the street we hiked a very nice trail to watch a beautiful sunset over the Florence. There is a good restaurant just up the street called Nuovo Ranch that was fun for the family and a cute local shop whose owner made a special custom apple pie/cake that was delicious. We recommend everything about this amazing and special place to stay.
My family and I had a great time staying at the watchtower near Florence. We arrived late on an Italian holiday and Majla was kind enough to provide us with milk and cookies for our breakfast in the morning. The apartment had plenty of space for our family of 6. The village surrounding the tower had a few small shops which were very handy for meals. The kids also had a great time in Majla's pasta class and now only want to eat homemade pasta :). Thanks Majla for a wonderful time.
Majla made us feel very welcome and has an information book prepared that provided all the information necessary to make our stay as easy and comfortable as possible.
Good location for visiting Florence, an easy bus ride away and a great restaurant a 2 min drive up the road.
If you want a change from sterile, predicable hotels then this is the place to be! Lovely!!
Our stay at the watchtower was purely magical. It's the epitome of history, quaintness, and comfort with the right amount of upgraded features and modernity to make it the absolute perfect place to stay. The view from the rooftop is unbeatable, you see rolling lush hills waving through vineyards and Florence's night lights in the distance. We chose to drive to Florence each day which was an easy 20 minute drive. But majla provides a wonderful book full of information about sightseeing and transportation etc. We did not see majla except for the first day when she welcomed us with a wonderful bottle of organic wine, but she was readily available to answer any questions. My fiancée and I definitely plan to come back here, and for a longer time. I simply think it's such a treasure of a place, and definitely the nicest place I've stayed anywhere in Europe using air B and B. Thank you Majla!

About the Host, Majla Francesca
My children are the 6th generation in this medieval villa, and when our budget doesn't allow us to travel, we like a little bit of the world to come to us. My grandfather - a personal hero of mine - hid and saved many lives (often complete strangers, and foreigners), from the fury of the Fascists and Nazis during WW2, in the many nooks and crannies of this old home; and this has created in his heirs a tradition of opening this home to strangers.
I am more hospitable than impeccable...
One of my favourite quotes is: "if you don't believe in connections, you miss them".
I recently wrote a book about happiness.
My husband Marco is a retired professional yachtsman, and now a talented and passionate cook.
