There are stairs and more stairs to get to the tower apartment, but that is what makes it so private, romantic and panoramic.
There is WIFI, and toys and books in English too.
As mentioned on some of the reviews, this place is also child friendly: toys, books, safe private gardens, a magical tower, friendly cats (optional!), babysitter available on the premises.
Also special CHILD FRIENDLY COOKING CLASS available. (See "additional offers" further below).
The estate includes one shaded and one sunny garden, and a small olive grove shared with the other families in the building.
A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY
The tower portion dates back to 1146. The rest of the building was added on in the 1400s , 1600s and 1800s. Many lives were saved during WWII by my grandfather who risked his own, by offering hiding and shelter to total strangers in this villa. We want to continue this tradition by welcoming people from all over the world. Our children are the 6th generation in this home.
We live in the building, right at your doorstep! You have all the privacy (the tower apartment is all for you, with private entrance, bathroom and kitchen etc) but we are a knock away if you need help, wish to borrow some food or kitchen utensils, or are simply in the mood to share a glass of wine or cup of tea or coffee with us, and hear the history of this place.
We may be on vacation a few weeks in the summer, or a week end here and there. When so, Majla's mother Eva, who lives on the premises, will make sure you have assistance in case of need.
Local deli, freshly baked bread, cheeses, wine, great cappuccino and top butcher of the valley all right across the street, 5 minutes walk.
NO RESTAURANT WALKING DISTANCE, but you can buy all the food you need to make your own meals. Very nice family style trattoria only 5 minutes driving from home, and a warm dish of pasta in the village community centre.
- OUR VILLA IS NOT ON THE HIGHWAY AS IT APPEARS ON THE MAP!
Check-in and out times are are flexible, but please request in advance if you'd like to arrive earlier than 5:00pm or leave later than 10:30am.
We'd love to accommodate your needs compatibly with other guests.

Our stay at the tower was wonderful! The views are amazing and so is the whole place! The location is good, only 30 min from Florence. Majla was great giving us advice and tips.
This was our second time to visit the watch tower near Florence and as you would expect with a return guest we loved it. The charm of the small town that it is located in is undeniable. Majla is such a great host and they have everything you could possibly need to know in the information booklet that they provide.
We were unable to do the cooking class due to the short stay that we had, but we had done it before and Majla kindly provided the pasta flour as well as the pasta machine for us to use.
Just down the road there is a villa and another tower that are connected to a small winery that is absolutely wonderful with personal tours and incredible tastings.
For an unforgettable experience in Tuscany I highly recommend that you stay here.
If you are traveling to Florence or Tuscany region: staying in the watchtower is a 'must not miss'. We rented a car from Florence and drove 40 minutes on the beautiful and winding 'Via Roma' to the Watchtower and arrived pre-sunset. HOLY MOLY. We pinched ourselves multiple times to ensure this place was real: old yet clean, medieval but with every modern amenity, a photographers dream (I took about 500): small details and every comfort (light fixtures, tiny windows, an impressive mini-library, Bialetti) make you wish this were a place you were not just visiting. It is easy to see this living space is a special gem much cherished; how kind Majla & family have opened it to share with the world!
We had an amazing time at the watch tower! The location and setting were phenomenal and we were in awe the whole stay! Majla and Marco gave us plenty of recommendations/places to see and we can highly recommend their cooking class - they make a good team. They thought of everything and were very nice (even after we broke a glass by accident!)
We would love to stay here again if we are in the area and we can't fault the place!
This was an amazing experience, the highlight of our trip to Italy! The tower was unlike anything we've ever stayed in, and the terrace was incredible. We loved the pasta making class with Majla and came back inspired to make our own!
What an absolutely magical time we had in the Watchtower! Majla and Marco are very experienced, warm and friendly hosts. They went out of their way to ensure that we were happy and very comfortable. Yes, there are quite a few stairs up to the apartment, and a few more up to the tower but it was worth every step! ( we are much fitter now!!). I would describe the apartment as being delightfully different, from the low doorways in places to the exposed beams in the bathroom.
We were a group of four and were very comfortable. The upper bedroom has a double bed, the second had twin beds and there is room for a fifth person on the single couch/ sofa which has a proper mattress. The instructions about everything in the apartment, including shops, bus timetables and suggested walks were fantastic.
The local shop keepers were also very friendly and helpful. I would suggest having cash available if shopping in the village as card facilities were not easily found.
We didn't have a car but negotiated the bus easily from there to Florence ( 40 minutes one way, an adrenaline experience in itself!!). There are bigger shops 6 km away if you have a car but we managed quite well shopping locally.
We spent every moment we could up in our turret, and were also visited by the two gorgeous resident cats.
We decided that if we came back to the region we would definitely stay at the Watchtower and not in Florence. We were truly sad to leave!
Grazie mille Majla and Marco!!

About the Host, Majla Francesca
My children are the 6th generation in this medieval villa, and when our budget doesn't allow us to travel, we like a little bit of the world to come to us. My grandfather - a personal hero of mine - hid and saved many lives (often complete strangers, and foreigners), from the fury of the Fascists and Nazis during WW2, in the many nooks and crannies of this old home; and this has created in his heirs a tradition of opening this home to strangers.
I am more hospitable than impeccable...
One of my favourite quotes is: "if you don't believe in connections, you miss them".
I recently wrote a book about happiness.
My husband Marco is a retired professional yachtsman, and now a talented and passionate cook.
