About This Listing
Our Yurts offer a truly unique and exciting experience in Dominica. Exceptionally spacious, the Yurt still has a romantic and cosy feel. It is cool at night and the clear roof panel allows the moonlight to stream in creating a magical ambience.
Each Yurt has its own private, fully equipped kitchen and bathroom facilities contained within the Celestial Suite located a few paces away.
Our 6 metre Yurt "SUN" is erected and is available. Comfortably sleeping four.
Mermaid’s Secret is a newly developed Riverside Retreat on the East Coast of Dominica surrounded by crystal clear rivers and lush rainforest. Our very own Mermaid’s Pool river pool is the perfect way to cool off after a day out hiking.
We have many of the island’s best hikes close by and are 5 minutes from the black sand beaches of the Atlantic coastline where the giant leatherback turtles come to lay their eggs. We provide excellent self catering facilities but can also provide evening meals and breakfasts at our riverside bar, the Mermaid’s Tale, along with a selection of ice cold beers, rum punches and local juices made from our very own fruit trees.
Have fun and enjoy yourself in our beautiful, natural surroundings.
Dear tim and sam
we thank you for lovely stay. It was a wonderful experience.
Thank you for the helpful advices.
The mermaids secret is a great place to be. I would choose it again, if i came back to dominica.
Mermaid's Secret is such a lovely place surrounded by jungle. We had a beautiful and special time staying in the yurt and taking baths in the "pool". Sam and Tim are great hosts that love to get to know other people, talk and help. Sam is a wonderful cook and prepares everthing herself. Try the omlette with the yellow pepper sauce for breakfast! ;)
Thanks a lot for that great experience!
From the moment we arrived we knew we were in for a treat. Tim,Sam and the crew welcomed us into their home and immediately made us feel like family. We were originally scheduled for 7 nights in the sun yurt but decided to extend to 9 as we just didn't want to leave. The grounds are beautiful and kept clean, the home prepared food is delicious, and the company alone is worth the trip. We will absolutely be back and would tell anyone that mermaids secret is the place to spend your time in Dominica.
This is an amazing place. Sam & Tim make you feel so welcome & attend to every need - including those you did not know you had! The setting of Mermaids Secrete is lush, and serene. You instantly relax to the sounds of the rainforest. The accommodation are luxurious for forest cabins & yurts & very comfortable. I enjoyed it so much I am going back at the end of my time on Dominica for more relaxing on the deck of the cabin. If you don't want to cook Sam prepares lovely evening meals which are eaten communally with other guests in the bar area. I would not hesitate to recommend this special place which is run by rather lovely people.
My wife and I work in the 7star service industry, we're also lucky enough to travel a lot. Rarely do we go somewhere where we DO NOT WANT to leave! We stayed at 3 places in Dominica Mermaids secret was by far the best, the area is idyllic, Sam and Tim are extremely helpful hosts and nothing was too much trouble. We ate evening meals and breakfast everyday and it's good home cooked food. We also enjoyed a massage on the deck above The river. Mermaids pool is beautiful, far better than Emerald pool and you'll often have it for yourself! I genuinely cannot recommend this place enough!
We spent 7 beautiful days at the Mermaid's Secret in the Sun Yurt in January. What a beautiful magical place! This was our first time in Dominica Island. Mermaid's Secret is located on the East side of the island. It is literally in the middle of the jungle! We loved how homey and safe we felt at this place. The hosts are wonderful people! Tim and Sam and their beautiful family have made our stay very unique and special- like we have visited with friends. The fresh water pool was great!! A perfect thing to relax after a whole day at the beach or hiking. The food at the resort was amazing! I have Gluten sensitivity and never felt like I was missing out or hungry! Great food and drinks and the giant Jenga game! The yurt was simply beautiful! We also had our own kitchen and bathroom. Great if you plan on doing some cooking yourself! Everything was very clean and neat. There are hummingbirds all over the property- amazing photos! If you stay here it is a good idea to rent a car. We would highly recommend the Mermaid's Secret! What amazing memories!
Thanks Anastasia for your kind review. We are always pleased that our guests feel so at home here and of course we like to have some fun and laughs....even if it is at our guests....sorry John but I'm still chuckling at the video of you on the space hopper:-)
Best wishes to you both
Staying at Sam & Tim's Yurt was a dream for us, two city people, trying to escape the dreary winter. We felt so far away from the daily grind, falling asleep every night in the yurt surrounded by nature, listening to the chirping of frogs and crickets. It's very enchanting! Nice to have the river nearby for a quick dip, too. The yurt is clean and comfortable, and then the bathroom and kitchen are in a separate structure a few steps away. Definitely rent a car if you are coming - part of the magic is that it's secluded but its a bit hard to get to, so that means you'll want a car.
Tim was always so helpful and very knowledgable about the island. Every day he gave us suggestions based on the weather conditions (some hikes can be too muddy if it's rained a lot in the morning) and we always found something interesting to do, thanks to him. The guidebooks can be very overwhelming so its nice to have someone who lives there to help parse through it all.
I'm not an expert of Dominica, but I also came to believe that Mermaid's Secret is located in one of the nicest stretches of the island - at least all our favorite activities (and the most unique) turned out to be the ones nearby. Its really convenient to do Wavine Cyrique, Victoria Falls, Sari Sari Falls, and Glasse Point.
You can also ask for breakfasts in the morning which were very good and fortifying- we especially liked the homemade jam of local fruits and flowers.
So in sum, If you're looking for a unique trip, don't hesitate! We'd never done anything like this (we're not even big hikers or campers) and we thoroughly enjoyed visiting Dominica and staying at the yurt.
