This is a colonial house with lots of class and style. The house is with our family for more than 60 years, and recently we started offering accommodation for people visiting Rion.
The property has a vast garden with two mango trees that fill the garden with fruits at the end of every summer. We also have a tree of Brazilian Jabuticaba, and lots of other tropical plants. From the garden, guests can view the Jesus statue, prettily illuminated as the sun sets.
The weather in the house is fresh and enjoyable, not only because of the various plants and the shades they provide, but also because it is located above the sea level benefiting from a constant pleasant breeze.
If you are considering using public transportation while in Rio, the house is nicely located - walking-distance from the Corcovado train and metro-bus. But if you intend to use taxis, it might become slightly pricy, depending on your budget.
The style of the house, its tranquility and green areas make Casa Corcovado a great place for your staying in Rio. Lastly, the house has a priceless book-collection.
You are welcome to explore Rio de Janeiro beyond the obvious and feel like a real “carioca”.
Casa Corcovado is a really cool old house, good location up in the hills just outside of the hustle of the big city, fairly easy access to the center of town with regular buses at the main depot in cosme velho, roughly 5 minutes walk down the hill. I generally felt very safe in the location, and had a great time hanging out with the other guests. Jorge is a good host, and happy to help you out with some advice on the city, transportation or anything else you might be curious about.
Only downsides are it could use a scrubbing, like any fifty year old casa, so if you are a neat freak it might not be the place for you. And they have a dog, who is generally friendly but if you are not a dog person, be careful, she can be a little too friendly! Otherwise it's an awesome place to stay, and was a great introduction to the city for me, could be for you too. Highly recommended!
There was awesome! House was great! A real historical museum, with a lots of good staff, and beautifull nature by the door.
You will live there like in your house with great family, very openmind and helpfull.
Thanks Joao and his father for all what they do for us!
We really enjoyed our time at the house! The location is awesome and his father was very helpful and pleasant. He helped us to organize our trips to the city with insider knowledge.
Joao was always keen to fulfill our special wishes. Thank you very much!
The owner is a really nice person and he was really trying to be helpful. In terms of security, the area is quite safe and we had no problems during our stay, although it's quite close to an ex-favela. The house is old and there's a lot of history inside (i.e. amazing old books, art books, sculptures and old paintings), however it needs some improvements and there's also some mold in the room we stayed.
The location is very strategic, really close to Cristo Redentor and all the major beaches (Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon) and the centre.
