About this listing
Sunny apartment from 1760 in the old city center of Lisbon (Baixa). It was fully refurbished in 2010 but still preserves a traditional Portuguese touch in its architecture and decoration. The apartment is equipped with all modern amenities (wifi internet, Nespresso, dishwasher, washing machine, toaster, kettle, etc.) but most of the furniture is antique and was restored with taste.
The building is ideally located in the touristic center of Lisbon, two minutes away on foot from Chiado, Praça do Comércio and Cais do Sodré. Buses, metros and trams serving all of the city and the airport are just 100 metres away. Trains to Belém and Cascais are available 200 metres away at Cais do Sodré train station, as well as boats to go to Costa da Caparica beaches.
A wide range of traditional Portuguese restaurants can be found around the house. You will receive a list of the best options at your arrival. Very close by you will find the fabulous Ribeira market with a large variety of fresh fish, fruit and vegetables in a very picturesque atmosphere.
There are also plenty of options to go out at night. Cais do Sodré is the new trendy place in Lisbon and you are just 5 minutes away from the best bars and discos.
You can speak to me in French, English, Spanish and Portuguese. My mum will welcome you in Lisbon with a big smile.
About the Host, Sandra
We are a multilingual couple living in Brussels. Sandra is Portuguese and Laurent is Belgian. We both work in communications. As a journalist and blogger, Laurent writes mostly about urban issues, mobility and architecture. Sandra works with European cities on environmental projects.
Travelling is one of our great passions. We've been on great trips to Asia and South-America and hope to discover Africa in the near future. We often take breaks to go on city trips in Europe and we love staying in Airbnb apartments.
From bahaian moqueca over chikken tikka masala to japanese noodle soup, great food from all corners of the world is another interest. We sometimes make nice experiments in our kitchen!
Whenever we find the time we try to see a good movie or go to a concert. Favorites include The National, Arcade Fire, The XX, Beach House, Radiohead, Deus, Leonard Cohen...
Sandra is very much into crafting: she likes sewing, knitting, renewing old furniture... Laurent is the intellectual of the house: he reads a lot and has always the answer to one's question.
Our home in Brussels has plenty of space to host travelers. Sandra also rents out her lovely apartment in Lisbon together with her mum, Maria. Both places are very bright, nicely decorated and in central locations.
