Five out of five stars for this family with one four year old boy and a two year old girl. We booked for the week after Christmas. Temperatures outside meant morning runs along the Taff Trail were frozen yet the house was toasty warm inside.
The bedrooms were big enough to put up our travel cot, the bathroom, kitchen and dining area were all ideal family size.
Location is great, right next to the river, close to town by either train or car and easy access to the main routes in/out to the castles, beaches, forests and mountains.
As an ex-Cardiffian I was sceptical it would be village-like seclusion in the heart of the city, but I'm happy to report that it really is. We will be booking again for future visits home as it means we always have a bolthole when the kids are tired and can entertain family when they are sleeping.
The hosts were extremely welcoming too.
We had an enjoyable stay at the cottage which has a semi-rural feel to it but still within easy striking distance of the city centre. Helen's welcome was festive and appreciated, with a Xmas tree, mulled wine and mince pies waiting for us on arrival.
Helen was busy so we were met by James who was very hospitable. He showed us around the cottage, explained how everything works and chatted to us.
The cottage is nicely set up and comfortable. Helen had even left a packet of biscuits for us which was a nice touch. We slept well. The lounge is good for relaxing too.
Danescourt Station is only a few minutes walk away and Helen gave us very clear and detailed instructions about the various ways to get there.
There's a Co-op just up the road to get stores. Unfortunately we didn't have time to do any of the walks.
We enjoy staying at Helen's place a lot. It is advisable to arrive before sun set as that will make finding her place easier. Helen met us when we arrived and shown us around. She also made it a point to see us off.
Very quite and green neighbourhood, the house was perfect for a family of 4. Cardiff is just around the corner with the car, we did not use public transport.
Hosts were very friendly and welcoming. Great location - country feel yet within very easy reach of the city. The cottage was cosy and homely as was as advertised on the site. Thanks
Excellent in every way. Not far from the city, three stops. Secluded in the middle of a suburb, great experience. Helen and James were great hosts.
