The space

Cosy and beautifully decorated 20m2 studio in the city-centre surrounded by a beautiful and serene garden. The studio has its own separate entrance, independent from the rest of the house, as well as an ensuite bathroom and a small, but fully equipped, kitchen (fridge, hot plates, microwave, kettle, coffee-machine etc.)

Furnished with all the amenities necessary to guarantee your stay is as easy and comfortable as possible.

The garden, separated into different levels, is a cool and welcome oasis of plants and trees, giving the impression that you are somewhere far away from the noisy and crowded centre of a big city. It is perfect for enjoying your breakfast, lunch, or an al fresco glass of wine, or just relaxing and unwinding after a tiring day of sightseeing. The studio is quiet as it is a fair distance away from the road and is located at the foot of Strefi Hill, where one can go for an evening stroll and see the city from above.

Well-connected for public transport, and with all major sights within walking distance. It is only 10 min walk away from Panepistimio or Omonoia metro (tube) stations, and provides easy access to other means of public transportation (buses, trolleys, tram etc.). The archaeological museum is just five blocks away, and the Acropolis with its new museum is within 30mins walking distance. Monastiraki square and Plaka (the old town) are just a 20min walk away, and Psyri and Keramikos square, where the heart of Athens nightlife is located, are either a 15min walk, or a metro station away respectively.

The neighbourhood of Exarchia is ideal for those who want to really live like a local, away from touristic areas, but still be in the city centre. Well-suited for couples who want to explore the diverse centre of the city, as well as students attending seminars or professionals on business trips. The room can accommodate up to three people, or a family with one child.

The house, built in 1920 just after the First World War, is steeped in history. On the trunk of the palm tree which stands in the yard, you can still see the marks left by the bullets from the street fights in Athens during the Greek civil war in 1946. In the 80’s and 90’s the house was one of the most (some claim the most) famous rock-bars of the city, with many local and international rock-stars including Nick Cave having performed on its stage.

Guest access

Easy access from the airport, port or train station by metro. Nearest metro station is either Omonoia or Panepistimio. From there it is approx. a 10 minute walk.

Interaction with guests

My guests always guide me for which face of the mulrifarious city of Athens they would like to explore. I'm always at your disposal for any question or recommendation with quick and accurate answers.

The neighborhood

Exarchia is considered the bohemian and alternative neighbourhood of Athens, home to many writers and artists. It is like a village in the centre of a big city. After a while you begin to see people you recognise. The area has an important role in the modern history of Greece, due to the great riot of the17th of November in 1973 against the Junta, which took place in the Polytechnic University.
Nowdays Exarchia is a neighbourhood that attracts a lot of young people and students because of the alternative night life and the million different options that it provides for going out. From cafés open all day (from the morning for you to enjoy breakfast, right up to the late evening) to restaurants, tavernas and grill-houses open from noon till late at night, and bars, many al fresco and open till the early hours.
It’s a neighborhood that never sleeps.

Getting around

As Exarchia is at the center of the city any public transportation is within walking distance (no more than 10 minutes walk at the most) and can give you a quick and easy ride to almost every part of the city.

Had a great stay at Romanos's. He gave a wonderful introduction to the city. His place was located near some good restaurants, cafes, and bars as well as walking distance to the sites. His mother's garden is beautiful and a great place to relax in.

This was our first trip to Greece. We weren't sure what to expect but Romanos was so friendly and his parents were so sweet and hospitable. They made us feel welcome and gave us great advice for touring Athens. They even called a cab for us early in the morning so that we could make our train. Would absolutely go back again!

We had an absolutely wonderful time staying at Romanos's place. His brother, Jason, welcomed us and gave us very detailed information about where to visit around Athens. Their mother also provided us with some traditional snacks and bread that we immediately devoured the night we got there. Romanos also provided us with oranges and we were able to make our own orange juice one morning. The place was very clean and the terrace is ABSOLUTELY beautiful! It is about a 20 minute walk to the start of the ancient sites. The library of Hadrian is the closest. It's also about a 5 minute walk to the beginning of the trail to Mount Lycabettus. There are tons of restaurants and little grocery stores around. Thanks for giving us a great place to stay!

Romanos' apartment is absolutely perfect and in reality is even better than the photographs. It is comfortable, quiet, cool inside even in hot weather. The garden is amazing, the location is ideal and he and his family were very kind, collecting me from the airport (for a small fee) and even bringing wine and pastries for me on arrival. I can't recommend this apartment enough and hope to return there again soon.

Romanos and his family were incredibly hospitable. Romanos met us when we checked in and provided us with recommendations and useful tips for our time in Athens. He and his family provided us with an authentic, delicious meal as well as fresh fruit. We also enjoyed the beautiful gardens. The room was equipped with all necessities.
