Well situated in the centre of the city, but at the same time away of the noisy atmosphere. Fully equipped with everything a guest may need this oasis at the centre is looking forward to be your place for your Athenian days.
Cosy 20m2 studio in the city-centre surrounded by a bright and leafy yard. The studio is quiet as it is a fair distance away from the road and is located at the foot of Strefi Hill, where one can go for an evening stroll. It has its own separate entrance, independent from the rest of the house, as well as its own bathroom and small kitchen. Situated in the neighbourhood of Exarchia, it is only a 5min walk away from Panepistimio or Omonoia metro (tube) stations, and provides easy access to other means of public transportation (buses, trolleys, tram etc.). The major archaeological sites are within walking distance too. For instance the archaeological museum is just five blocks away, and the Acropolis with its new museum is within 30mins walking distance. Monastiraki square and Plaka (the old town) are just a 20min walk away, and Psyri and Keramikos square, where the heart of Athens nightlife is located, are either a 15min walk, or a metro station away respectively. Ideal for couples who want to explore the diverse centre of the city, as well as students attending seminars or professionals on business trips. The room can accommodate up to three people, or a family with one child. The house, built in 1920 just after the First World War, is steeped in history. On the trunk of the palm tree which stands in the yard, you can still see the marks left by the bullets from the street fights in Athens during the Greek civil war in 1946. In the 80’s and 90’s the house was one of the most (some claim the most) famous rock-bars of the city, with many local and international rock-stars including Nick Cave having performed on its stage. Its yard, separated into different levels, is a cool and welcome oasis of plants and trees, giving the impression that you are somewhere far away from the noisy and crowded centre of a big city. It is perfect for enjoying your breakfast, lunch, or an al fresco glass of wine, or just relaxing and unwinding after a tiring day of sightseeing.
I truly enjoyed staying here - the listing description was accurate (very, very nice) and the location was great! Romanos was a great host and made us feel very welcome. I am very glad that I booked with Romanos as he was extremely helpful. He went above and beyond by giving us a layout of the city as well as answering all our questions when we initially arrived. Overall, great stay and would definitely recommend!!
Romanos is great! Very kind, calm and gave us a ton of information about local things. So glad he was our host!
We had delayed flights & he picked us up from the airport which was perfect after long journey. I highly recommend requesting this service from him if u need it. Worth 35 euros easy.
The studio is very cute, simple & very comfortable. His family residence is just next door so they were always available. It's in a perfect location within Athens. We walked everywhere. The view from our patio was nice with vines growing over top and another level of patio with cute setting. The photos are accurate, very Mediterranean & relaxing. And this was even now during their colder days.
Neighborhood felt safe & right in heart of athens. Local restaurants r good & walk there. Acropolis, museums, all very close.
His mom is a doll! She greeted us warmly & brought us Greek treats on our late arrival. She even did some well needed laundry for us. Thanks mom! ;)
I Definitely recommend a stay there & would go back again.
Our stay at Romanos's studio was every bit as excellent as it sounded from the reviews. Our flights were delayed badly, and Romanos and his parents were very accommodating and stayed up very late to welcome us at the apartment. And, what's more, when we got there, his mother had prepared for us a delicious meal of home-made traditional Greek foods. They were so very generous, and we are extremely grateful for all they did for us!
Romanos was great with communicating before we arrived, and gave straightforward directions to the apartment. The apartment itself is well-equipped for a short stay and tastefully decorated. There is a lovely verandah where we ate most of our meals and enjoyed the sunshine. The wifi comes and goes, but it was not a problem for us. It's fast enough to do what you need to do - check maps, send emails etc etc. After all, why would anyone go to Exarchia to sit at home and stream Netflix?
Exarchia, the area where the apartment is located, is 'bohemian', and offers a glimpse of the political activity in Athens at the moment. We found it very interesting to stay there, although I can imagine that some people might find it a little overwhelming, since there so much activity in public areas. There is a strong sense of community in the shops around the house, and we were happy to greet the same people everyday when we went out and every evening when we came back.
There are many good value cafes and bars around, and there is an excellent fresh produce market on Saturdays. The house is a pleasant walk to the historical centre, and to surrounding suburbs.
We wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else when we return to Athens. This is the one!
I've spent the first week of 2015 with my friend by Romanos in his Dream studio. I do love the name Dream Studio, because everything there looks really like in a Dream. The room is so beautiful the small yard is also so cute. One can enjoy a wonderful afternoon there. In addition, the Dream studio is near to the Subway station Omonia, that makes our trip there so convenient.
About Romanos and his Family,
Romanos is absolutly the best gentleman I've met in Athens, he took us up in der middle of the night from the airport, introduced the history, culture and restaurants in Athens. Those are really secret tips one cannot get from others. His such a nice person. At the night we arrived, we had get some homemade food from his mother, I feel so grateful!
If I come back to Athens again, I'll choose the Dream studio once again without hesitation!
For me the plus-points of this accommodation are that it’s separate and independent (you lock your own secure door, then pass through two attractive terraces to exit to the street via a secure door-in-a-wall); it’s located in the higher reaches of Exarcheia, at the foot of Strefi Hill, in a real Greek neighbourhood, well away from anything touristy, and being at quite a high elevation, the air is cleaner than it is downtown; the accommodation is clean and very attractive (much inventiveness and creativity has gone into the interior design); there’s adequate wi-fi and a very decent shower; and the hosts (Romanos, and his mother and father) are very pleasant people. Of course there are always negatives as well in any accommodation, and the negatives here for me are that the "kitchen" is tiny, consisting basically of the top of a small fridge; there’s no kitchen sink (you have to use the one in the bathroom, down five steps); the main room is small; there’s no TV; and occasionally at night loud traffic can be heard inside the room (so I needed to use ear-plugs).
