My husband and I stayed 5 wonderful nights at this unique rental. Isobel and Holis were terrific hosts. The rental was very clean and tidy, yet filled with great art, artsy knick-knacks, and bedecked for the upcoming Mardi Gras season. The bed was very comfortable. Nice size bathroom. The kitchen looked pretty well stocked, but I have to say we didn't cook a thing. They left us yummy bottles of local Abita Amber & Rootbeer. They even gave my husband a cake for his 40th birthday - traditional Kings Cake! We made the most of each hour in NOLA, leaving early each morning and coming back in the evenings. Holis and Isobel provided a guide to local bars and restaurants with menus. Great eats literally just blocks from the rental.
We did not rent a car, and it was a good six block hike to the streetcar line. Due to the soft ground, the sidewalks are quite uneven. So, bring your good walking shoes or rent a car. I will say though, the neighborhood was quite nice - we did not feel uneasy even walking late at night. Many beautiful homes, and many homes in the midst of reconstruction.
Isobel and Holis were the perfect hosts! Their space is cozy and eclectic with all the comforts and essentials you need. Wonderful art, great style, and a definite eye for the details. They welcomed us warmly and gave us the best insider tips for our first trip to New Orleans. We couldn't have asked for anything more. Really.
Thank you for everything!
This was an amazing vacation! Isobel and Holis were extremely accommodating. Their recommendations were very focused on the experience and not just focused on what do tourists usually do. I felt integrated into New Orleans and into their neighborhood. This is truly the best way to experience New Orleans. We came for New Years and not only did they give us a welcome basket, they also had gifts and treats for our dog! They even drew a little cartoon of our spaniel... they have the customer experience down! It may look far on a map from the French Quarter, but taking the street car down helped make our New Orleans experience even more great!
Great place to stay. Located in an easy spot to get around the city by car or by public transit. Hosts were very welcoming, helpful and willing to make our stay a great experience. Glad to get to get to know New Orleans a bit. Very happy to be able to bring our dog and have her feel welcome. Thanks to Isobel and Holis for all the personal touches and for sharing their home with us. Will definitely use airbnb again based on this experience. Thanks for everything.
We had a wonderful experience with Isobel and Holis! They were kind, generous, unobtrusive hosts offering a cozy place to enjoy NOLA. Highly recommend!
We were lucky to find this wonderful apartment through airbnb. Isobel and Holis were such gracious hosts and made us feel so welcome in their home! They were so helpful on tips on where to go and what to do in in new orleans! We were even able to use their bikes to explore the city.
We did have a minor issue with the bathroom, but Holis was so helpful in fixing the issue the following day!
Overall, A+++, would reco these gals to anyone visiting the area!
The space is gorgeous! And the hosts, Isobel and Hollis, were very attentive to our needs without invading on personal space.
I was born in New Orleans and came back to see friends, enjoy the sites with boyfriend, and relax after a hectic schedule. I have come to expect a lot from New Orleans hospitality, and Isobel/Hollis did not disappoint! Every day they were in contact with us by text just to make sure everything was ok. There were lovely little souvenirs and details (lovely soaps in the bathroom, a well-appointed kitchen, a guide book, etcetera) that made the stay delightful, especially for a couple.
Mid City is a fascinating neighborhood with a ton of restaurants, bars, and sights all off the beaten track. However, the house is still within walking distance to the street car line and Mid-City has really improved bicycle paths (I don't bike, but I found this super cool!). All in all, Mid City also tends to be lighter on the wallet than some of the more touristy places, while still having lots of the cool spots New Orleans is known for (Lola's, Cafe Degas, Angelo Bracato's, City Park with the Botanical and statue gardens, Art museum, Yacht club, Parkway Poboys are all city landmarks we were able to get to and there are PLENTY more).
All in all, great service, great location, and great space. Thanks y'all!
It was our first time in NOLA & we are grateful that we landed in the good hands of Isobel & Hollis and their lovely home in Mid City! What caught our eye about this place are the 2 bikes that come with the rental...it was so easy to roam the city with bikes (and super convenient that the bikes are already at the house so no rental involved). We got several complements on the bikes as we took the town by bike-cruiser-storm!
We loved exploring the streets of NOLA yet we loved hanging out in the house just as much! Its a special place...
Isobel is an angel (sorry that we did not get to meet Hollis this time)...she took the time to point us in the direction(s) that we were looking to go AND she even drove us to a venue one night because she was headed in that direction anyway. Her response rate to our inquiries was like a blink of an eye -very fast!
We has SUCH a great time in NOLA -the nicest people in the world live in this city. When I return I will be reaching out to Isobel & Hollis once again. We loved it all! Thanks Isobel!!!!
The apartment was amazing!! The hosts left an adorable and thoughtful welcome "basket" in addition to tons of up-to-date information about local venues, restaurants, and events. The kitchen was stocked with some essentials, and they had travel sized toiletries available too. More than anything, the look and feel of the place was so unique and funky that it make our stay in Nola all that more...Nola. The only drawback is that the location is a bit out of the way, near the highway. But it was about a 10min walk to the streetcar, and taxis from the French Quarter were always less than $20.
Isobel and Holis are lucky I left their house after my 8-night stay. My stay couldn't have been better. The space is comfortable, unique, and fun. The hosts provided a wonderful book with recommendations for nearby bars/restaurants. (Check out the Mid-City Yacht Club, Banks St. Bar, Wakin Bakin, and Crescent Pie & Sausage Company.) They provided a bed and dog toy for my pup, too. I walked around the neighborhood a LOT during my stay and felt safe while enjoying the great houses, friendly people, and local attractions. Everything I needed (and much more) was available at the house, and they even walked my pup for me while I was at a conference. The street car is nearby and runs straight downtown. My dog (Olive) and I look forward to going back and staying with Isobel and Holis again!
