About this listing
Retreat to a small and secluded island with a simple but comfortable bungalow, in a tranquil lake in the mountains around 3 hours from Manila. The house has one bedroom, a kitchen, a spacious living room--and stunning views of the lake!
We were lucky to have found this place and we’d like to share it with others. It is a small and secluded island in a tranquil lake in the Sierra Madre mountains, with a simple but comfortable bungalow on top of a grass-covered knoll that gently slopes down to the water. From the road, you can only reach our island by a ten-minute boat ride. When you get there, it becomes difficult to believe that you’re only three hours away from the big city.
Our island is an ideal destination for couples, families, or small groups of friends seeking to escape from the frenzied pace of the metropolis (or for that matter, of Tagaytay, Laiya, or Subic).
The 80-square meter house has one bedroom, a kitchen, two bathrooms, and spacious living room.
The bedroom includes a queen-size bed, a separate day bed (for reading, or for an extra guest), a closet, and a great view of the lake. There are comfortable sleeping mats for seven extra guests who can spread them out in the cool and spacious living room.
A separate study where you can relax, gather your thoughts, or shack up for a night of board games is close to the main house. You can choose to eat in the dining area in the kitchen, in a separate dining hall found farther down the way, past an outdoor kitchen and grill area—or al fresco, as we like to do, by taking our table and chairs to the grassy area by the water.
The dining hall can also double as a small function room for meetings or parties.
There is also a ‘dap-ay’ (a circle of stones surrounding a fire pit) at the head of the island where you can have bonfires.
The island isn’t connected to the grid, but since we come here to retreat from the city, we actually don’t mind. We only use a small and trusty generator from dusk til midnight, but if you’d like to have it on all day, we can adjust our fees.
With the isolation and quiet, clean mountain air, and the comfort of a rustic lake house all only a short distance from Manila, our island is a perfect venue for quick weekend getaways, family picnics, barkada outings, organizational meetings, or even a small garden wedding. It is also ideal for long-term stays for those who want to finish writing a play, thesis, or novel.
Have a look at the pictures and send us an email. We look forward to hearing from you. ☺
RESPECT FOR CARETAKER
Tony, our caretaker, is happy to assist you during your stay. He will operate the boat to take you to and from the island, help you set up house stuff (stove, grill, mats, games, etc), refill your drinking water supply, and otherwise leave you be. But please note that he is not there to wash your dishes, set up the table for you, or make your beds while you’re there. If you are unsure about what you can ask him to do, please ask us. Allow him to rest between 9 PM and 8 AM and unless absolutely necessary, avoid calling on him after or before those times. Tips to express your appreciation of his service are most welcome; you may give this directly to him.
- Never leave children unsupervised, especially in the water.
- Avoid making too much noise.
- Take care of the house stuff: don’t use pots and pans on the grill, be careful handling the plates, glasses, etc, make sure you don’t lose any game pieces—use whatever’s there as you would your friends’ or parents’ stuff when you stay with them.
- Please don’t take anything from the house so future guests can continue to enjoy them and we can keep our rates as low as possible. Tony will conduct a final check before you leave. Any missing or damaged property will be deducted from the deposit.
- Don’t ask Tony to do things he’s not expected to do. See “Respect for Caretaker” above.
- Respect nature: don’t cut down any trees, shrubs or plants and leave other living things in peace.
- No littering: throw your cigarette butts or any other trash in the trash bins.
- Segregate: we will provide one bin for biodegradable waste and another for everything else.
- There will be no other guests in the island but you and your group during your stay. Just the same, secure your valuables: we are not liable for any loss of personal belongings.
- Unless we’ve made a prior arrangement, be sure to check out at 11 AM. We need extra time to clean the premises for incoming guests.
WHAT YOU NEED TO LET US KNOW AHEAD OF TIME
Please tell us the following by text or email at least three days before arrival:
- estimated arrival time
- whether you want to turn on the generator beyond 6PM to 12MN and for how long
- whether you will be bringing pets
- anything else you think we should know
We allow cancellations with full refund of deposit at least one week prior to scheduled arrival. For cancellations within one week prior to arrival, however, we will only be able to refund 50% of deposit. No refund will be given for no-shows, except for reasons of force majeure.
We are committed to making your—and other guests’—future stay more enjoyable, so at the end of your stay we hope you will take time to answer a short survey about your experience. We hope you will take note of any comments or suggestions which you think we should hear so as to maintain or improve the satisfaction and well-being of our guests.

This island in Lumot lake is not just an accommodation, it's an experience. I was just here last 19th of August to celebrate my birthday with a few of my friends and all of us have nothing but good words to say about this place. First of all, as soon as the booking was confirmed, the owner provided a long "love letter" that explains everything that you need to know about this place, from the getting there part to what you can expect, every instruction has been given and every FAQ has been answered on that letter so it is quite important that you read it.
The lake itself is beautiful and we enjoyed a little swim. We dared not venture to the deeper part though as only one of us is a good swimmer. Because it's a lake though, there's mud instead of sand, making the water murky. Don't worry though, it's totally clean.
The wind is strong so I can understand the absence of air condition units. There are a few electric fans though that are rechargeable. Why rechargeable? Because electricity is only available from 6PM to 10PM. You can pay extra though if you want to extend the use of electricity. Don't expect that it'd be on all night though as the main source of electricity is just a generator. It can be a little hot at night though so I suggest that you just keep the windows open in the bed room.
The caretaker and his family kept to themselves so it's easy to feel like you have the island all to yourself. They even have an office with glass walls, a table and an office chair. So already I am planning to go back, maybe for longer periods so I can write a novel.
I love everything about this place and my friends who saw my pictures on Facebook are now planning to go there too. The place is always booked though and I can understand why, so you got to have a little patience when you try to book this island.
Would I come back? You need not ask. Of course I will come back!
We had a wonderful stay here, everything written here is accurate. We can't imagine a place like this exist, a place where you can be at your own world. We love everything in this place, the view, the lake, the bedroom, and the kitchen! Though we were just surprised that only one stove is working.
We're also grateful how the owner properly manage the place, since people had been complaining about the flies and mosquitoes, they have anti-pest control check on their place before our booking, and we didn't have any issues with that anymore. We brought mosquito coils and lotions, but we didn't use them.
It was just sad we didn't got the chance to experience the bonfire since it was raining on the night that we were there. We would definitely be coming back, and probably stay one more day.
A different kind of experience of living on an island if you are okay without room service and air conditioning. Clean surrounding and tranquil. If only not for the thousand of flies that feast with you on meals and sleeps with you on the bed. But this is not the fault of the owner of the island. I assume that there's a poultry or something near the island that is causing the annoying party of flies. Plus, there was a problem with the water. Dirty water coming out of the faucets. We weren't able to take baths before going to bed and morning before we leave. I even brought my one year old daughter so we have to bathe/clean her with the mineral water we brought for drinking. Was meant for a surprise birthday treat. I don't think my family enjoyed much so I don't feel like they would like to go bac, but me as a guy, I wouldn't mind going back with friends and camp out.
I'm sorry about the water. Our deep well broke a week before your stay and proper repairmen were difficult to get by. They finally managed to fix it on July 16 but since they had disturbed the bottom of the well, the water was murky. Another guest who stayed with us on the 17th also complained about this but it does alarm me that it was still murky even three days after the repair.
Thanks for the feedback. I will definitely look into this problem. Please extend my apologies to your family.
Just a few tips if you plan to go and stay here.
1. Bring "Katol" or mosquito coil. There are fly traps available, but its not nice to eat with fly traps in front of you.
2. Bring Flashlights. In case you want to stay outside
3. We left salt, soy sauce, and other condiments for the next visitors. So no need to pack for a lot of condiments though.
4. If you plan to use extra electricity, the generator isnt as loud so for us, it was fine.
5. There are huskies (2 months old), that I think are for sale! They accompanied us the whole time.
6. If you plan to go to a wet market, try going to the ones before Pagsanjan, because its pretty small and they din't have everything we needed.
7. Bring long extension cords.
When we got to the parking lot, Tony wasnt there because apparently Herbert, the number I was messaging, did not receive any of my messages. Decided to call him, and he said there is repair work for the tank but we would have to wait for an hour or two for clear drinking water. So we had to wait for 15 mins. The tank was under maintenance, so they couldnt provide clear drinking water. The water was murky. But we din't have any choice but to use it for washing dishes and taking a shower. Since we expected water in the island, we did not buy drinking water on the way. We had to pay Tony 50php for a jug (id say 2 gallons or 3). There were no available trash bags, but there were trash cans. Good thing we packed trash bags with us which we were supposed to use for our wet and dirty clothes.
Bring extra coolers, so you'll have clean ice. Ask Tony for life vests, if you want to swim. Since its extremely difficult to swim in the lake. Btw, the lake is man made!! We swam to another small island, just to drink and do picnic. But eventually we had to go back since its really dark.
Overall, it was a good trip. We enjoyed and stayed up all night drinking. There were no stars in the sky though, so we expected rain. But, it dint happen. This is a great place to escape and just bond. There is signal for globe (since all of us were globe users) sometimes it would be LTE, but most times just 3G.
Celebrated my Boyfriends birthday here along with our barkada. I'd say I'd do it again, and just improve warn us with the water next time.
We were 2 couples who had come over to celebrate a birthday . All the information provided was very accurate and we did not have any issues finding the place. Toni and his family were extremly helpful in setting us up (even though we arrived before time) .
Boat ride was smooth . There are 2 hammocks and you can relax there or take a nap with the cool breeze flowing.
There was a calmness about the that helped take our mind off the stress.
We enjoyed the place and would be back in a bigger group.
Please note this is not a luxury resort and being close to nature it will have its set of nuances like some flies, couple of pet dogs and maybe some insects but if you can look beyond this its a great place to spend a night or 2 ...
Antares was a great host! He made sure we had all the information we needed in preparation for our trip to Sundang island, from the directions to the place to the things we needed to bring for a comfortable stay. The house and the island are exactly how they are pictured and actually even nicer. We had such a great, relaxing time out in Sundang island and really hope to get a chance to go back. Thank you Antares! :)
