The Space

We are a small guest house, but our location is close to center of Ubud around 10 minute on foot. we will so you about the real Balinese live.

We have 4 bedrooms to rent our separately. Each room is equipped with either twin beds or a queen size bed and a ceiling fan. The shower comes with hot water and flush toilet. There is Wi Fi connection available in the guest house.

Ubud is a remarkable town in the middle of the island of Bali. For more than a century, it has been the island's preeminent centre for fine arts, dance and music. While it once was a haven for scruffy backpackers, cosmic seekers, artists and bohemians, Ubud is now a hot spot for literati, glitterati, art collectors and connoisseurs. Famous names walk its busy sidewalks everyday
Ubud is arguably the best place to use as a base if you're visiting Bali; if you're looking for culture, comfort, nature and inspiration. Ubud is surrounded by most of the things that bring people to Bali -- scenic rice fields, small villages, art and craft communities, ancient temples, palaces, rivers. And it's central location makes it easy to get from Ubud to the mountains, beaches, and major towns.

  • We had a really great time at Suastika! The room is big and clean, in a beautiful garden facing the jungle. It is well located in the center of Ubud. Our hosts took very good care of us, giving helpful recommendations to visit Bali, preparing nice breakfast, and making us feel home. Highly recommended!

  • Great breakfast! Lovely family. I felt very safe and secluded in my bungalow but was still quite close to town.

  • I had a very nice stay at Suastika Lodge (be careful, there's a Suastika Guesthouse on the other side of town which the taxi drivers/locals think of if you're looking for directions). Ngurah couldn't meet me when I arrived, but his sister and parents were very nice, giving me a welcome tea & sweets while they prepped the room. They were renovating, so I got a brand new ginormous mattress which was super firm (plus for me, as I like a firm bed) and the mosquito net had a few small holes only at the bottom which is past where it drapes from the sides of the mattress. Usually I'm a mosquito magnet, but I had very few bites during my week-long stay.

The bathroom was dingy and dark with dead bugs and no toilet paper or soap. There's a towel and his family got me the tp & soap when I requested it, so that was fine. There's a water well to go with the toilet, but I never needed to use it as the toilet flushed fine. The next day, his mother cleaned the bathroom while I was out, but more dead bugs will appear throughout the day. There were a ton of ants that live in the shower taps, so be prepared when you turn it on. They just scurried up to the ceiling. I didn't have any hot water no matter what time of day it was. There was just a trickle in the shower. As other reviewers pointed this out, I wasn't fussed.

The room was spacious with an extra bed, a coffee table, a stool & a cabinet for clothes/luggage. I didn't use it as there were a lot of tiny spiders and daddy longlegs roaming about. The fan was nice, but squeaky and during the monsoons, it was really hot and stuffy.First night, they hadn't cleaned the room properly, so I stuck my hands and feet in a lot of cobwebs, including out on the recliner on the patio. Wifi signal was pretty strong as the router's just outside on the patio wall between Rooms 1 and 2. Don't expect fast speeds though as it is a developing country. Walls are paper thin.

The breakfast was really nice, probably the tastiest and most filling of the different places I stayed in Indonesia since his mother gives you a bowl of fresh fruit along with your main selection. If there's anything you like/don't like, she's happy to amend the ingredients.

The garden and compound was lovely and Ngurah was pleasant enough the few times we spoke. I booked a customised tour to Lovina through him, which went fine. Regret not cutting out Lovina as it was gross and the guide makes you eat at a bad seafood place by a whorehouse on the beach. Got better tour deals across from the Indian restaurant down the street.

Beware the neighborhood dogs who will bark and follow you, esp at night.

  • I had a wonderful stay im Ubud in Ngurahs guesthouse. The family was always helpful and welcoming. They even made a list of all the activities in Ubud and gave me tips about prices and explained me where places are when I was looking for them. She even once cleaned my room after accidentely spilling my drink, she resisted to do it so I had time to go to Monkey Forrest.
Really really nice family and the location is very good. Everything was close. I recommend getting a scooter (in general for Bali Travelers). Will come back.
    Clean room, free WiFi.

  • Nice location, very private. Hotel Suastika is off a back alley about a 10 min walk from the tourist center of Ubud. The family are typical Balinese in that they really went out of their way to be helpful. They showed me where the dance performances were, taught me how to tie a sarong, helped me break into my scooter when I locked the key under the seat. The breakfasts were delicious with eggs, toast, fruit salad and Bali coffee . The room was large and comfortable with a beautiful view over a jungle ravine. Nice hot shower, all in all a 5 +r for a room under $20 with breakfast
