This is a common central living/dining area in a small cottage in which there are two single-size futons available at $15 each per night ($20/night on holiday weekends). A double-size foam mattress also is available for sleeping on the floor ($6/night). If you want to bring your own sleeping bag and/or air mattress, there is a $3/night charge for use of facilities. No a/c but windows on three walls provide plenty of breezes from Rehoboth Bay (one mile south) and the ocean (one mile east) except on the hottest nights (bring a fan). Use of fridge and stove permitted and hot shower available but few other amenities. No cable, no TV, no phone, no w/d (clothes line outside). No linens provided. Guests must bring sheets, pillow cases and towels. WiFi available for an extra charge. Furniture is well worn but functional. Ride to and from the cottage from the Washington, DC and Annapolis areas also offered at extra charge. This old cabin features the usual beach critters both inside (ants, spiders and crickets but no cockroaches) and outside (deer, squirrels and rabbits) in a quiet community wedged between Rehoboth and Dewey Beach just back of the ocean. The common room offers no privacy but if all you are looking for is an inexpensive place at the beach to sleep and have a hot shower, this cottage will suit you. Five minutes to beach by car; ten minutes by bike; 30 minute walk to resort bus terminal; 40 minute walk to beach.
Great stay. Comfortable, easy access to downtown, and Fred was helpful, welcoming, and hospitable.
Accommodations were sufficient but it would have been nice to be told to bring pillow cases and sheets. I slept on my beach towel because the futons did not appear to be very clean.
I had a great, comfortable time staying at Fred's place. It's a great price for the accomodations, and as a CouchSurfer, I'm very comfortable with minimal accomodations. Fred was very hospitable and a great host. If I'm in Rehoboth Beach again, I would gladly stay with him again.
Had a great stay at Fred's cottage in Rehoboth Beach. The cottage is a few minutes drive to the beach and is close to Coastal Highway which hosts a ton of restaurants, and even an outlet mall (if you're looking for a break from the beach).
Fred kept in great communication with us during the planning stages and was extremely flexible during our stay. Hope to be back in Rehoboth Beach again.
Fred's place was exactly as advertised, and I found it to be rustic and charming—like being at a cabin, and just the type of "organic" beach experience I prefer. It really depends on what's important for you, so do yourself a favor and take the place at face value or look elsewhere. Fred was more than accommodating and made room for me even with some of his family coming that weekend. Everyone was kind and pleasant. P.S. I got the best price on a bike rental at "All Wheels," just across Hwy 1 from Bay Vista Rd (i.e. where you turn to get to Fred's), and it worked great for getting around, avoiding parking, and hitting some of the gorgeous bike trails!
Had a great time staying here. We just shifted the futons together to make a little "bed" for our stay in the common room. Great cheap base of operations for all the time we spent on the beach. Thanks!
I went to Fred's place for a week-end and that was lovely to stay in an authentic beach!
The place is very clean, Fred is a super nice guy and the rate is unbeatable!!
Fred is a really nice guy! He is good company and I really enjoyed my stay! It is close to the beach and places to eat - and you can do a lot of shopping at the many outlets. I definitely would stay again!
Fred is a gracious host and has very interesting stories to tell. He was very helpful too! Thank you!
Fred made sure that we were comfortable once we checked in, and with the extras that we brought with us we were even more comfortable. His home was close to many amenities, but located in a quiet neighborhood. Thank you for taking care of us!
