The place is really great and was just as presented. Kelly, the host, was super helpful and everything about the cabin was both what we expected and what we needed.
It was clean, comfortable, relaxing to be there with two young kids and while pretty remote had all the modern conveniences to make it easy.
We had a couple of issues unrelated to the cabin come up which meant we didn't get as much time to explore and enjoy the outside. However, from what we did I wish we would have had more time for the kids explore the woods and the outdoor environment. The national park near by was great - swimming, small hikes, and playground. The local town is small, cute and full of the friendliness and charm of the area.
This is a great getaway and we are very thankful to the hosts for being so wonderful.
Kelly's family getaway was fantastic. A small group of us stayed to attend a wedding at the Guest House which was a short drive away. Exactly as described and true to pictures. We really enjoyed having coffee on the screened in porch and listening to the breeze through the trees. Great spot to get away and go on relaxing walks through the mountains. Kelly was very responsive to my emails and questions and was flexible on our check in/out time. We really enjoyed our stay at Kelly's home in Lost River and would highly recommend staying here. Thank you so much Kelly!
The cabin was exactly as described and pictured. Substantially more space than I expected actually. When we got there I thought this was pretty nice and figured there were some bedrooms tucked around a corner but there was actually a large second floor with multiple full baths.
The unit, sheets, pillows, etc. were all very clean. The wifi worked perfectly so we weren't completely disconnected.
We especially loved the fire pit next to the house where we enjoyed making smores. The location was just across the way from Trout Pond where we were able to hike around the lack and got to watch the Park Service stock the pond. Definitely a perfect blend of amenity with access to nature without a very long drive from the DC area.
We rented the Lost River Cabin in order to attend a wedding that was held at the Lost River Guesthouse. We found the cabin to be just what we needed. It was clean, comfortable and exactly as advertised. Kelly provided useful and important information to aid us in our enjoyment of the cabin. Kelly was diligent about reminding us that we would be in the woods with "no cell phone connection" so that we would not be able to rely on cell phone GPS. He provided great directions. The cabin has WiFi so we were able to connect once we found the cabin. Kelly checked in with us to be certain that "all was well." We felt comfortably welcomed to this charming West Virginia hide away.
As with my first visit, the dogs and I thoroughly enjoyed Kelly and Jack's oasis. I highly recommend this cabin and location for a getaway. The only regret is we did not stay longer.
The hosts of this cabin are fantastic. They couldn't have been nicer or more helpful.
The unit pictures tell the full story. it's perfect for a family or for a few couples.
the area in WV is great. just the right amount of remote, combined with a nice restaurant or two if you need them...

About the Host, Kelly
My name is Kelly and I live in Washington, DC, with my husband and our three recently-adopted children. We live across the street from the Eastern Market Metro Station and rent out our downstairs apartment.
We've been renting our DC apartment (underneath our house) since March 2012; we've begun renting our WV cabins since Jan. 2013.
For tourists to DC, we have -- I have to admit! -- a pretty superb location in that you can be on the National Mall (the Smithsonian Museums) in less than 20 minutes. Historic Eastern Market is just a few blocks away.
My husband works for the federal government, and I work for a global consulting firm supporting the federal government on sustainability issues. We enjoy bbq'ing outside when the weather is nice, going to the park with the kids, and simply being parents.
