Try searching Sukantara Chiang Mai on the internet as I find it hard to describe and perhaps its better for the experts.
Chiang Mai is the second largest City in Thailand but maintains a friendly atmosphere where there is a wealth of sites to see. We have many beautiful temples the most famous being the golden Temple of Doi Suthep high in the mountains over looking the City. Chiang Mai is steeped in History and culture, being the Capital of the Lanna region. Living nearby are the many Hill Tribes who you will see from time to time walking around in their very colourful tribal dresses. Aka Lisu Hmong Karen to name just a few of the Hill Tribes.
All tastes are catered for in Chiang Mai where the night life can go on to early in the morning. roadside pubs, noodle bars, restaurants, and coffee houses where one can sit and watch the world go by. Street markets are abound the two most popular are the Night Bazaar just of the main Moated area of Chiang Mai and of course the famous Sunday Walking Street market where several streets are closed from about 5pm every Sunday, and where you can by locally Hand made crafts. silks. clothes, and of course many typical foods only found in Northern Thailand.
Just a short ride away one can enjoy the Wood Carvings found in Hang Dong and the umbrella making village of Sankanpeng visited by the late HRH Princess Diana.
There are usually events that occur most week ends with some festival or other but the most famous events is Thai New Year or Songkran in Mid April where once again the central streets of Chiang Mai are closed for about 4 days whilst many happy party goers enjoy the biggest water fight in Thailand. . In November we have Loy Kra Thong one of the most beautiful festivals in Thailand.Other events are seen throughout the year including, Childrens day, Flower festival, Chinese New Year, Mothers day, Fathers day to name just a few.One thing you will find here in Northern Thailand is that given any event we do like to party.
