The Space

The Garden Apartment at Swallows Rest is a large self-contained apartment on the edge of Wicklow Town. The apartment offers spacious accommodation for up to 4 people. With a large private garden this property is ideal for families visiting Wicklow.

The kitchen is fully equipped and comes with dishwasher, washer/dryer. There is an oven with separate hob and a microwave. There is a large fridge/freezer. There is a table and seating for four in the kitchen

The double bedroom is ensuite and has a queen sized bed.

The second bedroom has two single beds and a patio door to the garden. There is an additional shower room beside this room.

The large living room/dining room has plenty of space. Enjoy 'free-to-air' satellite TV (30+ channels) and a DVD player. There is a large dining table and seating for six people.

The large private garden has plenty of privacy for you to enjoy. It is mature and very pleasant to sit in on a fine summer's evening. Try dining outside with a glass of wine and watch the sun set over the mountains.

Wicklow town has an abundance of shops, restaurants and great pubs (some with live music every night). It is an easy 15 minute downhill walk into town. You might prefer to get a taxi home as it is an uphill walk back!!

There are some great beaches on the east coast of Ireland. One of the finest, Brittas Bay, is only 15 minutes away by car.

For golfers there are many great courses within a 30 minute drive.

The owners of the apartment live in the accommodation above the apartment. We are here to help and to guide you towards the best local tourist attractions. Dublin is only 35 - 45 minutes away so while you have all the attractions of a rural retreat you have the excitement of the city firmly within your grasp if you wish to spend a day in the capital city.

Guest Access

There is a large garden for guests to enjoy. We encourage guests to enjoy this as it is beautiful with plenty of bird activity.

Interaction with Guests

Guests will be personally welcomed to the property and shown around. Although there is information on how things work we will generally run through everything with guests to make sure they are happy with everything. We are available after that for any questions. We leave the guests then to get on with their holiday.

The Neighborhood

We are located on the edge of Wicklow town. It is an elevated site with great views over town and surrounding countryside. Even with a country feel the accommodation is just 10 minutes walk from town.

Getting around

Town can be easily accessed on foot or by car. There is a bus stop across the road from the accommodation from where the Dublin bus can be boarded. With a car there are a multitude of visitor attractions and places of interest.

  • We had a lovely time at Ian's and Bernadette's apartment. The apartment itself was spacious and well equipped. If you are planning to see the Wicklow Mountain National Park this apartment has the perfect position. We visited Glendalough which is just a couple of kilometers away. I would recommend a car for the visit though. We also visited the rocky beach of Wicklow.
We had some difficulties to find the apartment (probably due to the fact that there are no numbered houses in Ireland), but a short call to Ian solved the problem. It's on the right of the B&B on the opposite of the Montessori school.

Overall we had a great stay.

  • The apartment was huge, spotless, and far exceeded our expectations. Ian graciously picked us up at the bus stop and drove us to the grocery store so we could buy food before heading up the hill. The apartment is about a 15-20 minute walk from town with a beautiful garden/outdoor area if you're lucky enough to be there on a sunny day. There isn't a whole lot to do in Wicklow town itself without a car, and the traditional music is only on Wednesday and Friday nights, but there are some beautiful cliff walks you can get to by foot, including the ruins of blackrock castle and a walk along the beach by the harbor. With a car, however, this would be an ideal spot, as there are many places nearby worth exploring. However, the train didn't run nearly as often as we expected and the bus, which runs hourly is a good hour and a half ride to Dublin and doesn't stop at many of the places we would have liked to get to. Yet, this first air bnb experience was a positive one, and I would give Ian a perfect rating for accommodations and hospitality. I did omit a star due to some misperceptions about the ease of accessibility without private transportation.

  • the apartment was fantastic. Ian was a great host that lives right upstairs.
The place is very clean with every amenity you could ask for. It is a short walk down a steep hill into town but there is plenty of parking if you don't want to walk back up the hill. I would definitely recommend this place.

  • Swallows rest garden was a lovely aparment set at the top of wicklow town. The views themselves are worth the stay, however, the apartment itself was modern. clean and comfortable. Ian was a gracious and friendly host who picked my girlfriend and I up from the bus stop.

    Highly recommend.

  • The stay in Wicklow which is the coast south of Dublin suited us perfectly, the apartment was large, clean and lacked for nothing for brilliant stay. Even though it was large it was cosy and warm. Thanks Ian.

  • Myself and two friends stayed at the Swallows Rest for 2 nights. From the start, Ian and his wife Bernie provided a very warm welcome, firstly Ian offered to collect us from the train station (approx 25 minutes walk). Anyything we wanted or needed, we only had to ask.

Ian and his family live above the apartment, but we really felt that we had space and privacy. They were totally unobtrusive. The apartment was very large, a very big reception room with 2 comfy sofas, tv, cable, wifi etc, with french doors to patio, plus a very large dining table at the rear of the room. There is a separate very good sized and very well equipped kitchen, with a dining area to seat 4. The look, style and quality of the apartment is very good.

The area is very quiet, bordering on the countryside, but you can hear the sound of footsteps from upstairs, so bear in mind if you are sensitive to noise. It's a little hard to find: take St Patricks road from the town centre, follow up for about 15 mins by foot, road will merge with Ballyguile Rd (fork) immediately after, you'll see a small lane way to your right with a series of houses. Notice the b&b right opposite you, Swallows Rest is immediately next door to the right.

Lastly, Ian was flexible about departure time, as he had non-one booked in that day, so we got to enjoy the apartment until 3.30pm on dept day.

    Overall a great choice.

  • Spacious accommodation with all amenities. Ian is an ingratiating host.

  • This fine apartment exceeded our expectations. Spacious accommodation with lovely glass doors into the west facing garden - great for our visit (July) when we were treated to fine, bright evening sunshine. Ian was the perfect host - jovial (well, after all he's Irish), informative and friendly - we were treated to a lovely bowl of freshly picked redcurrants.
Only a few minor niggles, easily solved, include better directions to Ian's place. Upon arrival we couldn't quite find the right entrance and needed to ask a friendly neighbour.
