The Space

Hi! We are Megan and Brandon! We're a couple of working jazz musicians offering you one of our two spare bedrooms in our funky, but down-to-Earth 2,000 sq ft, 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom traditional New Orleans shotgun-style home in the St. Roch (pronounced "Saint Rock") neighborhood.

We offer our extra bicycles and individual bike locks to our guests as a courtesy. They are your typical street cruisers - nothing fancy, but they work!

Your bedroom is a spacious walk-through room in our turn-of-the-century shot-gun home. It features a very comfortable queen sized bed, an antique wooden nightstand, sturdy chair, an vintage crackle-paint vanity with tri-fold mirrors and musical instruments on the walls.

A shot-gun house is a family-style home that has no hallways - the rooms are the halls. Please see our photos for a lay-out drawing. Your room has doors, and you will have privacy, but the house is a walk-through, so if total privacy is an issue, this may not be the best house for you.

We live in the St Roch neighborhood - an up-and-coming area less than a 10 minute walk to the French Quarter and half a block from the Marigny, with the Bywater neighborhood just a half mile away. A lot of local artists, musicians and bohemian-types live nearby as well as old New Orleans Creole families. The neighborhood is a true New Orleans working-class neighborhood.

Our no-frills house features all the comforts of home including:

- WIFI INTERNET - free!!

- BICYCLES - You can use our spare bikes and locks! Free!! (Usually costs $20/day to rent each bike at a local company - so this is a great added perk!)

- TRANSPORTATION - While we are very close to anything you might want to walk to, we are also half a block to the bus stop and we can sometimes give you a ride if you need one!

- CENTRAL HEAT AND AIR CONDITIONING - this is a big deal around New Orleans. Lots of houses have window units that are full of mold and simply do not do the trick on super hot days. Our house is always temperature perfect inside!

- A FULLY EQUIPPED KITCHEN - toaster, microwave, coffee maker, french press, gas stove and oven, dishes, etc. if you want to make dinner instead of going out! We also have a full selection of spices and things for your cooking needs.

- LAUNDRY ROOM & SUPPLIES - soap, iron, ironing board, etc. (Help yourself - its there for your use! No extra charge, so you don't have to worry about lugging your laundry around with a pocket full of quarters!)

- ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM - including a TV (not LCD, but it works fine), VCR, DVD, and a record player!

- SECURE PARKING - gated and locked private parking alongside the house large enough for a full sized bus!

- LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION! All this within walking distance to the French Quarter (about a 10 minute walk away), Frenchmen Street (5 minute walk), The Marigny (half a block), Bywater (six blocks) and local nightlife hotspots on St Claude (half a block!).

- HOSTS WITH THE MOSTS - Two very friendly and knowledgeable hosts (if I do say so myself.. ahem.. but check out our reviews! )

Guest Access

Guests will have access to the whole house, yard and everything. We treat our guests like long-lost friends.

Interaction with Guests

We will interact with our guests as much or as little as they want. We try to respond according to the level of interaction desired by the guest. We are typically very busy, but are always available for questions and advice about where to go in the city.

The Neighborhood

Our neighborhood is down to earth, friendly, non-pretentious and genuine. It is not fancy or imposing in the least. As a working class neighborhood, you can expect to get to know your neighbors and people going down the street.

Getting around

New Orleans is a very walkable town since it is very flat. We offer bikes to our guests, as well, and there is a bus stop half a block away for longer trips in the city.

  • I had an excellent stay with Megan and Brandon! They were extremely welcoming and amazing hosts from the first minute I arrived. I only had 24 hours in the city and Megan provided great suggestions of places to see. I used their bikes which was a clutch mode of transportation around Nola. Thanks for a great experience!

  • Megan and Brandon are genuinely great people. Their shotgun house is a typical New Orleans experience! Was really nice to chat with them and get advice and info about the city and talk about music. The bikes are also a plus, even though the city is super close!

  • Megan and Brandon are ideal hosts! Friendly, helpful, available, kind -- like real live people should act. They gave us tips about things to do, invited us to shows (Brandon is a jazz musician himself), hooked us up with bikes to get around town, gave us directions, the whole thing. Really made our stay in New Orleans fun and allowed us to get under the surface of the place much faster and easier.

The room is big and clean and a great place to base your wanderings out of. It is a pretty short walk -- say 10-15 minutes down a cool street with great old houses all the way along -- to get back into the French Quarter and all of that. There's also lots of less-touristy bars and shops along nearer to where they live. A very good spot. Couldn't recommend more if you want to eat drink and be merry in New Orleans without being just another tourist schmuck.

  • Our stay with Megan and Brandon was very short but sweet! A very friendly couple with lots of information on what to do and see. Perfect location, very close to the heart of the city. I would highly recommend them both.

  • We had an excellent stay at Megan & Brandon's place over the weekend. The place had many items which are of sentimental value which reminded me a lot like my own home in Hong Kong. It was indeed a pleasure getting to meet and know Megan & Brandon and quite a shame we could not stay longer to get to know them better. They were friendly, courteous and most importantly was responsive to all of our needs. In general, they were fantastic hosts and I would not hesitate to direct any guests to stay at their place. One of the main highlights of our trip was the fact that we could use bikes to tour the city which is indeed a much cheaper and more convenient means of getting around the place to take pictures :). Our trip was a great success and if not for Megan and Brandon, we wouldn't have had so much fun!

  • Megan and Brandon are great! We weren't getting in until after 10pm but they were still able to accommodate us and help us plan our itinerary for the next day! The room is great and clean and the location is great if you like to walk or bike and are planning on visiting the French Quarter or Frenchman's Street (and who isn't!?) If you're not familiar with New Orleans and arrive at night you might feel like the neighborhood is a bit sketch but it really isn't. We never felt unsafe or worried about our car packed full of our stuff.

Megan and Brandon also invited us out with them to some local music venues and to a Second Line parade, but sadly our plans did not allow for that. We'll make sure to take them up on it next time because they're amazing!

  • It was really nice to stay with Megan and Brandon in New Orleans. They had several bikes to lend, so we went cycling through the city the entire time. We just slept there, because NoLa has so much to do and see!
    It was a great experience!

  • Megan and Brandon were amazing! They were warm and friendly, always eager to invite us to do things with them or give suggestions for food and night life. Their house is in a perfect location and with the option of biking, it makes seeing NOLA very easy. I would highly recommend staying with them.

  • Megan and Brandon were very nice and accommodating hosts! Megan even drew out a map of our relevant destinations that was very helpful when we were touring the French Quarter. Privacy is limited in the style of the house, but it was fine for a few nights. Thanks for a great stay!

  • We had a great time with our New Orleans hosts. Megsn & Brandon gave us lots of good ideas on how to get the most out of our stay. Even got to hear Brandon play at a couple different places. We walked everywhere with no problems. We're a retired couple and were a little apprehension about sharing space but we throughly enjoyed it.

Musicians and Online Auctioneers!
Hi! We are Megan Harris and Brandon Brunious! We live in New Orleans, though Megan is originally from a little town in Texas. We are both musicians who play regularly in the city. Brandon, who is a born and raised New Orleanian, plays the upright and electric bass, guitar, trumpet and sousaphone. Megan plays the trumpet and accordion. Megan currently plays with The Pair-a-Dice Tumblers, Ninth Ward Marching Band, and the Good Children Marching Band. She has toured with Izzy Cox and Hank Williams 3, played with Billy Pittman and Jimmy Vaughn and has shared the bill with The Legendary Shack Shakers, Michael Graves from The Misfits, Mr. Lewis and the Funeral Five, Charlie Louvin of the Louvin Brothers, and many more. Brandon plays with The Some Like It Hot Jazz Band, Dana Abbott, New Orleans Rhythm Devils, Black Dragons, The Pair-a-Dice Tumblers and the Ninth Ward Marching Band. He has played with hundreds of bands in the New Orleans area since he started playing over twenty years ago. He has played Jazz Fest more than fourteen times with his father, former Preservation Hall band leader and world-famous trumpet player Wendell Brunious. Some of our favorite things include: Steve Martin movies, R. Crumb comics, 1930's jazz standards, Frank Zappa, Nikola Tesla, vintage RVs, and found art.
