Cute and quirky bedroom in jazz musicians traditional shotgun home in classic New Orleans neighborhood. Complimentary bicycles and locks included with stay!
Hi! We are Megan and Brandon! We're a couple of working jazz musicians offering you one of our two spare bedrooms in our funky, but down-to-Earth 2,000 sq ft, 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom traditional New Orleans shotgun-style home in the St. Roch (pronounced "Saint Rock") neighborhood.
We offer our extra bicycles and individual bike locks to our guests as a courtesy. They are your typical street cruisers - nothing fancy, but they work!
Your bedroom is a spacious walk-through room in our turn-of-the-century shot-gun home. It features a very comfortable queen sized bed, an antique wooden nightstand, sturdy chair, an vintage crackle-paint vanity with tri-fold mirrors and musical instruments on the walls.
A shot-gun house is a family-style home that has no hallways - the rooms are the halls. Please see our photos for a lay-out drawing. Your room has doors, and you will have privacy, but the house is a walk-through, so if total privacy is an issue, this may not be the best house for you.
We live in the St Roch neighborhood - an up-and-coming area less than a 10 minute walk to the French Quarter and half a block from the Marigny, with the Bywater neighborhood just a half mile away. A lot of local artists, musicians and bohemian-types live nearby as well as old New Orleans Creole families. The neighborhood is a true New Orleans working-class neighborhood.
Our no-frills house features all the comforts of home including:
- WIFI INTERNET - free!!
- BICYCLES - You can use our spare bikes and locks! Free!! (Usually costs $20/day to rent each bike at a local company - so this is a great added perk!)
- TRANSPORTATION - While we are very close to anything you might want to walk to, we are also half a block to the bus stop and we can sometimes give you a ride if you need one!
- CENTRAL HEAT AND AIR CONDITIONING - this is a big deal around New Orleans. Lots of houses have window units that are full of mold and simply do not do the trick on super hot days. Our house is always temperature perfect inside!
- A FULLY EQUIPPED KITCHEN - toaster, microwave, coffee maker, french press, gas stove and oven, dishes, etc. if you want to make dinner instead of going out! We also have a full selection of spices and things for your cooking needs.
- LAUNDRY ROOM & SUPPLIES - soap, iron, ironing board, etc. (Help yourself - its there for your use! No extra charge, so you don't have to worry about lugging your laundry around with a pocket full of quarters!)
- ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM - including a TV (not LCD, but it works fine), VCR, DVD, and a record player!
- SECURE PARKING - gated and locked private parking alongside the house large enough for a full sized bus!
- LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION! All this within walking distance to the French Quarter (about a 10 minute walk away), Frenchmen Street (5 minute walk), The Marigny (half a block), Bywater (six blocks) and local nightlife hotspots on St Claude (half a block!).
- HOSTS WITH THE MOSTS - Two very friendly and knowledgeable hosts (if I do say so myself.. ahem.. but check out our reviews! )
Guests will have access to the whole house, yard and everything. We treat our guests like long-lost friends.
Interaction with Guests
We will interact with our guests as much or as little as they want. We try to respond according to the level of interaction desired by the guest. We are typically very busy, but are always available for questions and advice about where to go in the city.
Our neighborhood is down to earth, friendly, non-pretentious and genuine. It is not fancy or imposing in the least. As a working class neighborhood, you can expect to get to know your neighbors and people going down the street.
New Orleans is a very walkable town since it is very flat. We offer bikes to our guests, as well, and there is a bus stop half a block away for longer trips in the city.
Ages 22 and up only, please.
No pets allowed.
Smoking allowed outside, but not inside.
No unauthorized guests at any time (do not bring your friends or acquaintances into the house).
We expect that you will want to explore the city and all it has to offer and not stay in the house all day.
Only lock the bedroom door if you need temporary privacy, but please leave it unlocked as a general rule. This is a shot-gun house which means that your bedroom is also a hallway.
Be conscientious of your noise levels when others are asleep.
Remember, this is our home - not a hotel or a hostel. Please be courteous and respectful.
very friendly hosts and extremely helpful- gave great tips about the area and free use of their bikes!
Megan and Brandon were very accommodating and let us drop off our bags (prior to our room being ready) due to our early arrival. They were also so flexible with letting us use their bikes (which was a huge asset in exploring NOLA!) While we didn't spend very much time in the house, it was perfect for our needs. Upon meeting Megan and Brandon, while only briefly, they made us feel right at home. I would definitely recommend this spot to anyone looking to stay just outside of the French Quarter!
Location.Location.Location. This place is in the heart of the city. Met Brandon and he was very welcoming and knowledgeable. Definitely coming back again and would recommend this home to other travelers. I was very in and out, being that I was only there for a day, but the bikes, the central area and homeliness of the host space was all a great deal.
Groovy and knowledgeable hosts doing their thing in New Orleans. They dig having guests and it shows -- I went to a couple of Brandon's gigs, including a jazz brunch. Crib is an easy walk to all the tourist haunts, and there are bikes if you want to get a bit a farther (website hidden) (Siberia) with drool-inducing 'Slovakian soul food' is 50 paces away.
Megan and Brandon were awesome. The house was huge and incredibly lovely. They were so nice and knowledgable of New Orleans that they could make really good recommendations to see something more unique during our trip. The neighborhood where they live is pretty quiet but less then a block away starts the bars. There house is very close to everything and if you don't feel like walking the option of having a bike was really cool.
Megan and Brandon were very welcoming and helpful with information about the area. They were also very responsive with lining up my visit and accommodating.
