The space
You are honored guests at El Santurario, our six acre retreat, full of New Mexican soul: thick adobe walls, hand carved architecture, tasteful art. Pamper yourself: organic toiletries, double rain showers, soaker tub (jets out), plush robes, sandals, natural bedding. Kitchenette's stocked-big fridge, solid gear (listed below), and step just outside to a handy charbroiler for steaks. Note: our home is also on the six acres, expect quiet neighbors and assured privacy, first and foremost.
Your own slice of wild paradise: aspens, cottonwoods, birdsong round-the-clock. Twelve minutes to town, chapel, hillside porch for sunset over the Sangre's. Half wildlife haven, so bunnies, squirrels and gofers peek out now and then. Check reviews, see how other's fell in love with it. Privacy's absolute, but we're just a text away, here to keep it perfect.
Two pets welcome, just tell us what kind and if they'll be crated for any stretches. Property's fenced so run them around all you want. Wet paws? Towel's waiting. Treat the place like yours, that's all.
The 3 person hot tub's all yours, year round, 24/7. Grab a seat anywhere in the yard, relax under summer shade, fall colors, winter silhouettes. Fire pit by the jacuzzi when restrictions allow-just ask first. Bring a book, bring wine, or don't bring anything, just sink in.
The home is on well water so we also provide a Berkey water filter that can be refilled during your stay.
In summer, portable a/c chills the living room fast.
On cold winter nights, the fireplace blower turns a roaring fire into instant warmth - no adjusting the flue (it's open), no cleanup. Space heaters in the closet, radiant floor heat preset to 68 degrees. Don't drop the thermostat unless you're here for several days or it'll feel like a fridge.
Winter snow varies-we'll plow the driveway, grit for traction, even hand you an ice scraper for your car. Stay cozy inside, grill up a storm, or hit the powder if you're that kind. No 4-wheel drive needed, Taos plows like pros, but go slow, no slamming brakes. One quick thing, black ice sneaks up brake early, gently, even if it looks dry, just a head's up.
Every season's a winner at El Santuario-from winter's snowy hush to summer's blooming gardens, to fall's fiery palette. Stay put or use us as base camp for Taos: Taos Ski Valley minutes away, hike endless trails, raft the river spring through fall. Fantastic restaurants nearby, plus kids play spots in town or up at the slopes. Need recs? Just ask.
For cooking at home, we have a partial kitchen and offer a variety of electric cooking appliances with an outdoor charbroiler on your patio. Here's what's on hand: a full size refrigerator/freezer, drip coffee maker, French press & electric water kettle; bagel toaster & microwave, large air fryer, the Ninja 3 in 1 Cook System for use as a crock pot, saute or baking appliance, a small portable convection oven for broiling or baking, electric grill and hot plate and double burner plus the 14" non-toxic electric skillet. Outdoor charbroiler with burner and lid, titanium fry pans, solid stainless cookware, no Teflon. Stocked starter kit: oatmeal, cookies & nuts, organic coffee and teas, olive oil & balsamic vinegar, pepper grinder, Himalayan salt & assorted spices. If you're missing something, let me know.
**Please keep your doors closed because this is a rural environment and field mice and insects will enter when the door is left unattended.
**If you want to invite someone to visit, we ask that you let us know in advance.
We hope you enjoy the hand crafted architecture, art tucked in every corner, and birds through the six acres that give El Santuario its quiet, healing charm. Let nature gift you that rare hush- peace, serenity, no effort required.
Wifi works outdoors on the large patio table.
The Taos Visitor Center-great spot online or in person. Tap it for trail maps, hot-springs intel, secret attractions.

North Taos feels like the mountains' backyard, rivers, creeks, lush and gorgeous. Zip into town or hop the shuttle at the end of our road to the Taos Ski Valley for some winter fun.

Other things to note
Weather flips fast up here-pack boots, jackets, gloves, sun gear, layering can save the day. Altitude's 7200 feet, extremely dry, so hydrate like it's your job, it'll blunt headaches, the huffing, sleeplessness. We keep herbal remedies in the kitchen cabinet if you crash land from sea level. Just slow down, drink, lie low. You'll adjust.
Activities in the area include hiking, horseback riding, river rafting, fishing, farmer's markets, winter and early spring skiing and snowboarding, visits to the Unesco recognized Taos Pueblo, Rio Grande Gorge viewing, shops, museums, galleries, lectures, movies, concerts, bars & restaurants. Take the high road to Taos from Santa Fe to find old villages and stunning landscapes. Stop in at Santuario de Chimayo for some local legend and lore. The Saint Francis of Assisi church, at the south end of Taos, is worth a visit to see the beautiful, hand-carved altars, statues and the rustic simplicity so characteristic of old NM churches.
Both Ojo Caliente Mineral Spa or Ten Thousand Waves in Santa Fe are about one hour to an hour and a half away and offer exquisite spa services, food (much better at 10K Waves), and some serious rejuvenation for body, mind and spirit. There may be therapists offering body work in Taos. Check listings online for some awesome healing arts.
The jacuzzi is just steps from your front door and has a lid that pulls up so it's easy to partially lift and provide a "wall" behind you. The temp can go as high as 104 degrees and we'll set it hot in winter, unless you know you won't be using it.
**Chlorine is added for servicing but will dissipates with the lid open. If it's too strong, open 1/2 the spa cover and press jets so that it won't be unpleasant when you're ready to get in. Leaving the lid off also lowers the water temp, so just do it for 10 minutes for best results. The spa is professionally maintained on weekdays. A great place for star gazing in a town that values low light pollution and its starry nights.
