Spacious garden cottage in shared Johannesburg garden. Fully furnished, self catering, secure off street parking. Wireless uncapped ADSL included. Centrally located close to universities (WITS/UJ) shopping at campus square, bars and restaurants at Melville and Fordsburg. It is a short cab ride away from Park Station. Asking R480 a night, with twice weekly cleaning included. Laundry can be arranged at an extra fee.
The cottage is in the garden of an old style Brixton house, while it runs off a shared garden you do not enter through the main house, so you have as much privacy as you need. Eugene and Zen live in the main house with cats Larry, Vickie and Fish. Eugene is a freelance photographer and Zen is an artist who teaches down the road at WITS university. Larry, Vickie and Fish are lazy, curious and friendly cats - to be honest fish is a little neurotic - but actually quite cool as a result. They live in the main house, and while they like to visit guests, they can be asked to leave you alone if you like.
We are both well used to orientating and advising both local and international guests to Joburg with advice on things ranging from museums and galleries to restaurants bars and parties. Other things like sim cards or cell phones to car rentals can easily be organised.
The cottage is an ideal place for visiting scholars, artists or people working in the city. It also lends itself nicely for a few day stop over from JHB international to the coast or game parks. It is spacious and with free uncapped adsl and is a great place to work and relax while being 5 minutes away from a bustling metropolis.
Swimming pool, garden, off street parking, wifi, laundry service or use of washing machine in the main house
Interaction with Guests
the cottage is secluded so guests have as much privacy as they want, there is a shared garden and we are around to help with advice etc.
It is an old and central neighborhood, with lots of interesting neighbours. It is located on the ridge that runs east/west through the city, so there are views of the north a short walk away.
public transport is a 15 min walk on either side of the hill.
not many rules but here are some:
- make sure all taps closed when not in use
- make sure appliances are switched off.
Zen is a friendly host. The place was spacious and quiet. Recommended for short stay.
Zen's place is an excellent base for discovering Johannesburg. The cottage itself has all you need and more for a very enjoyable stay and the garden is really nice. We enjoyed having our meals there.
The best part of Zen's place is Zen himself. An amazing host who is always happy to help, hang out for a drink and open his home to you.
We stayed here for three nights and would recommend it to anyone travelling to Johannesburg.
The reservation was canceled 79 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Die Beschreibung der Unterkunft war sehr genau und entsprach auch der Wirklichkeit. Nach unserer Ankunft war sofort jemand da, der sich uns annahm und uns alles Nötige erklärt hat.
Zen is very open minded, artsy person who is outgoing and generous. His place is very cosy and artsy, and spacious!! It even has three cats and a pool. Lovely. Thank you
I was born in Durban, South Africa and moved around quite a bit, to the U.S., Holland (and even Cape Town) Now I am settled in Johannesburg. I teach Fine Art at WITS University (you can google me under staff at the wits school of art to read more about me) I spend my time between teaching and making art. Eugene shares the main house with me - he is a photographer and between the both of us we enjoy hosting people and advising on how best to navigate jhb.
We are easy going, flexible and happy to answer any questions in preparation for your trip.
