My river-view apartment is a home-away-from-home and when I'm not there it can be yours, too. It's a large top-floor two-bedroom retreat that's a few minutes' walk to shops and less than a 10 minute drive to some of Queensland's most beautiful beaches. We spend our time working between China and Australia and it's always such a great feeling walking into this place as it's immediately relaxing. My favourite pastime is to sit on the balcony with a glass of wine around 4pm and watch hundreds of coloured Lorikeets and Rosellas fly past. When I'm not there I often picture myself in that wine-time spot.
I escape here whenever I can so the apartment is well set up for visitors. It's fully air conditioned, there's a spa bath in the main bathroom, a large-screen TV with DVD player and comfortable couches where I've lost count of the number of times I've taken a nap. We have two bedrooms and two bathrooms as well as a study with a sofa bed, so the place can sleep up to six people. We're close to the Maroochy River, which gives us great water views as well as a quiet neighbourhood. But it's not too sleepy, we're also really close to a wide range of restaurants and cafes and we're less than 10 minutes from the Sunshine Coast Airport (MCY).
If you're not familiar with the area, Maroochydore is on the Sunshine Coast on the south-east coast of Queensland (which locals would argue has the best beaches in the country). You can visit year-round as the temperature still hits above 20 degrees (celsius) in the mid-year winter months. There are lots of clean surf beaches as well as hinterland with wineries and well-preserved national parks like the Buderim Forest Park with nature trails for bushwalking and hiking. The local area is built up and has shopping malls and cinemas and it's an easy 40 minute drive north to Noosa, which is well known for its restaurants.
The good thing is that you don't need a car to stay here though. In the morning, I often take a walk along the river down to the local bakery for fresh bread. My dad will often take a folding chair across the road with some cold beers and try to catch some fish for dinner, usually a few bream. We're a few minutes' walk to a bus stop that takes you to the Sunshine Plaza Shopping Centre. Also walking distance is a boat ramp and a place to hire jet skis. On Sundays, there's a farmers market just five minutes away.
Our apartment is one of only six in the complex and it's very secure, only tenants can access the entrance, lift and car park. We also have an in-ground pool and you can barbecue some steaks on our balcony. We can provide linen for an extra charge but I'm afraid we don't allow smoking.
Off the top of my head, here's a few places I like to go when I'm here. We'd be happy to give you extra tips, too, if you have any particular interests.
• Harry's Restaurant on Buderim is cool as much for its location as for its food. It's in a beautiful old Queensland home on the edge of a rainforest so after your meal you can go for a wander.
• It's a bit of a surprise but there's a great African restaurant on the Maroochy River called Mulu Char. They have great free-range beef and traditional South African boerewors (sausages).
• Just a short drive away is Ba Vigo, a modern Spanish restaurant that specialises in tapas and also makes the most of the local seafood (their blue swimmer crab linguini is excellent).
• If feel like a more laid-back meal, the fish market in nearby Mooloolaba has fresh seafood as well as tasty fish and chips, you can actually see trawlers on the docks outside. There's a takeaway option as well as a full-service restaurant

Gavin's apartment was perfect for our needs and was very clean, open and airy. The view from the balcony is amazing and all amenities were just a short walk or cab ride away. We'll definitely be back.
Our stay at River View was a lovely one. The apartment is equipped with everything you need to eat & cook in or sit back and relax and take in the sea breeze & views on the balcony with take away. The apartment is very clean and spacious. Having 2 lounges is a bonus. I forgot my hairdryer but Gavin had one of those too. Not far away is Buderim Forest Park with nature trails for bush walking and hiking. It was so nice we went twice. Out the front we fished for hours & it's only a 10 min drive to the surf. It was also nice having contact with Gavin by email. The lift also makes coming and going easier. A week well spent. Thanks Gavin for the stay.
We booked this apartment to take my Mum away for her 70th birthday. We live in London and so booked this well before we arrived. Everything was exactly like it looked in the photos. The apartment is massive!
Each room was spacious and the bathrooms were lovely. Loved the double shower in the ensuite.
The view is spectacular and whilst the weather wasn't optimum, we had a great time just relaxing in that space with the view of the river.
I was a little dismayed to have to make up our own beds and the lack of soap was a little unusual. However, we could not fault the rest of the stay and the apartment is well cleaned and looked after, such a delight.
There is undercover parking with automatic gate, a delight to drive into when the heat was on!
We would thoroughly recommend and would definitely stay again.
Gavin's penthouse was a really great place to stay with convenient access to beaches and motorways. The bus stop was close walking distance. The views were incredible and we enjoyed dinners out on a grand balcony overlooking the river and mountains. The unit is very nicely furnished and has all the amenities. The pool outside was a great plus! I would definitely recommend staying here.
Great place, nice terrace , good BBQ
We never met Gavin as he was overseas but he arranged an easy check in for us by having us collect the keys from an agent.
Gavin's apartment was spotless, very well located with river views and well equipped. Another good airbnb experience!!!
Awesome apartment with all the things we needed for our charity inspired get away, bring own soaps and hair products. Had no issues, would definitely try to stay there again if i'm down that way :D
Really well appointed apartment which was perfect for a weekend away. Would recommend and will probably come back. Some points to note - more for information rather than as a critique:
Bring your own soaps and consumables; unlike other airbnb places the apartment did not contain many of these.
Read the welcome sheet thoroughly - we were surprised by the checkout time.
Other than that great place.
We spent the second part of our vacation Down Under at Gavin's magnificent, spacious apartment. It offers a high standard, fantastic view and lots of individual room to relax. We really enjoyed the ten days. Gavin is very friendly, always reachable and responded instantly, when we had a question, everything was organized extremely well. Thanks for the flexibility on checking in and out. We highly recommend Gavin's apartment for a Sunshine Coast vacation. Ting, Xiu and Manfred.
What a fab apartment! Really nicely finished with a lovely view over the river. Gavin was a great and everything was made easy, including a very late checkin which was accommodated well. Thanks for the stay.
