About this listing
My river-view apartment is a home-away-from-home and when I'm not there it can be yours, too. It's a large top-floor two-bedroom retreat that's a few minutes' walk to shops and less than a 10 minute drive to some of Queensland's most beautiful beaches. We spend our time working between China and Australia and it's always such a great feeling walking into this place as it's immediately relaxing. My favourite pastime is to sit on the balcony with a glass of wine around 4pm and watch hundreds of coloured Lorikeets and Rosellas fly past. When I'm not there I often picture myself in that wine-time spot.
I escape here whenever I can so the apartment is well set up for visitors. It's fully air conditioned, there's a spa bath in the main bathroom, a large-screen TV with DVD player and comfortable couches where I've lost count of the number of times I've taken a nap. We have two bedrooms and two bathrooms as well as a study with a sofa bed, so the place can sleep up to six people. We're close to the Maroochy River, which gives us great water views as well as a quiet neighbourhood. But it's not too sleepy, we're also really close to a wide range of restaurants and cafes and we're less than 10 minutes from the Sunshine Coast Airport (MCY).
If you're not familiar with the area, Maroochydore is on the Sunshine Coast on the south-east coast of Queensland (which locals would argue has the best beaches in the country). You can visit year-round as the temperature still hits above 20 degrees (celsius) in the mid-year winter months. There are lots of clean surf beaches as well as hinterland with wineries and well-preserved national parks like the Buderim Forest Park with nature trails for bushwalking and hiking. The local area is built up and has shopping malls and cinemas and it's an easy 40 minute drive north to Noosa, which is well known for its restaurants.
The good thing is that you don't need a car to stay here though. In the morning, I often take a walk along the river down to the local bakery for fresh bread. My dad will often take a folding chair across the road with some cold beers and try to catch some fish for dinner, usually a few bream. We're a few minutes' walk to a bus stop that takes you to the Sunshine Plaza Shopping Centre. Also walking distance is a boat ramp and a place to hire jet skis. On Sundays, there's a farmers market just five minutes away.
Our apartment is one of only six in the complex and it's very secure, only tenants can access the entrance, lift and car park. We also have an in-ground pool and you can barbecue some steaks on our balcony. We can provide linen for an extra charge but I'm afraid we don't allow smoking.
Off the top of my head, here's a few places I like to go when I'm here. We'd be happy to give you extra tips, too, if you have any particular interests.
•Harry's Restaurant on Buderim is cool as much for its location as for its food. It's in a beautiful old Queensland home on the edge of a rainforest so after your meal you can go for a wander.
•It's a bit of a surprise but there's a great African restaurant on the Maroochy River called Mulu Char. They have great free-range beef and traditional South African boerewors (sausages).
•Just a short drive away is Ba Vigo, a modern Spanish restaurant that specialises in tapas and also makes the most of the local seafood (their blue swimmer crab linguini is excellent).
•If feel like a more laid-back meal, the fish market in nearby Mooloolaba has fresh seafood as well as tasty fish and chips, you can actually see trawlers on the docks outside. There's a takeaway option as well as a full-service restaurant

The accommodation was as described, very high standard, and all arrangements were in place when we arrived. Pickup of keys from local real estate was easy as was drop off at the end of rental period. Would not hesitate to recommend to friends or use again in the future.
We had a wonderful stay at Gavin's place. It was perfect for what we needed. Well equipped kitchen, loads of space for two couples and a toddler, walking distance to a small supermarket and close to the river for fishing.
The listing description was accurate, the Luxury Penthouse was divine for us. The neighbourhood friendly, and quiet. Thank you Gavin.. you organised it all for us to feel "at home" and "cared for" on our arrival and also on walking into your beautiful property. A blessing indeed!
This place more than lived up to my expectation. Bigger than the photos show it was exceptional value for money and I would love to stay here again. It's places like these are why I love airbnb so much.
Thanks again Gavin
We really enjoyed our stay in Gavin's apartment. It was spacious and comfortable. There are beaches, parks and supermarkets only a short drive away. Gavin was really easy to communicate with and making arrangements was a breeze. I would definitely consider staying here again!
The apartment was comfortable and we immediately felt at home. It is exactly as advertised and was a pleasure to stay there and relax with family.
Absolutely fantastic apartment! Loved our time here. Great location and a beautiful home. Highly recommended!
