  • Very nice apartment, simply but nicely furnished, excellent location in a pleasant neighborhood (major supermarket just a couple of blocks away). Very kind landlord.

  • We spent 3 weeks here and strongly recommend this Miraflores spot mainly because it is clean, very safe, and well located in a secured neighbourhood.

Top reasons to get a hold of this place: the practical location and safety of the neighbourhood; the quiet nights that provided great sleep; the sunlight and air that kept the place lively and fresh during our summer visit; the birds singing which provided peace; the smell of the garden flowers that were stronger at night; the helpful and kind landlords (Spanish was spoken among ourselves); the beautiful park Reducto2 that provides tranquility; the nearby restaurants and supermarket - walking distance to good restaurants; a stone's throw from Inca/Indian Market (Petit Thouas) for good deals on Peruvian Handicraft --think safety and proximity in getting these souvenirs, sure beats going to El Centro where it's not a good place to walk around mindlessly.

Note that the shower is a telephone (euro style) and has little pressure, so have low expectations. As well, the city might strike you as smelly and that's because the grass is hosed with treated sewer water. No one notices it anymore, but tourists sure get a whiff.

    Highly recommended :
    1. To have breakfast at Don Mamino's on 28 de Julio and Ribeyro (street corner with apartment). Or just buy the petits pains (bread).
    2. Home-made tasty Lunch at El Divan on Bolivar #381 corner La Paz (20 minutes walk), try to get there by 12:30 pm for the Executive Lunch at 15 soles --- a bargain!! Euro-style portions.
    3. Try cebiche at La Preferida on Ribeyro towards 28 de Julio (5 minutes walk)
    4. Tanta, La Baguette and San Antonio are a short 10-15 minutes walk on 28 de Julio and Avenida Reducto - these restaurants serve large portions so not a bad idea to share.
    5. We discoverd a fantastic Amazonian cuisine (with some fusion) on street La Paz called Amaz - great cocktails and food was excellent and quite different to the rest of Peruvian cuisine.

A note on museums : better to go the Anthropology, Archeology and History Museum to get a full understanding of Peru's rich history. It is located in Pueblo Libre so better schedule drop off and pick up with taxis as this area is not really safe to walk around on your own, or if you're clearly look like a tourist you might have a nasty surprise. Skip the Museum of La Nacion - not worth the time.

Lastly, if you call a taxi to do a pick up at home it will cost you 15 soles if you're going nearby. A street taxi from Tanta to this place costs no more than 5 to 6 soles. A private taxi costs 25 soles the hour. So if you need a recommendation for a private taxi, or a medical clinic or dentist, send me a message.

We wish the landlords and Mario all the best as they were wonderful with us!

    Saludos,
    Maily and Nancy

  • Mario's place was great. He was prompt in his communication with me and the apartment is clean, spacious and centrally located in Miraflores, easily walkable to certain areas like the ocean views at Larcomar. I highly recommend it!

  • Mario was a gracious host. He arranged a driver and car to get us at the airport and it was greatly appreciated after 24 hours of travel and no sleep. The apartment is a third floor walk-up and there is a head banger about half way up so tall persons beware. Everything was clean and neatly arranged. There is a full kitchen and it is only a short walk to a really good grocery. The park across the street is beautiful and the area seemed safe and convenient. We were there for dental Tourism and the walk each morning was about 2.5 km but easy enough. There were adequate supplies, although no scissors for opening packaging if you are cooking and no decent knife. Everything else was just fine. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was very nice and the apartment light and airy. The building owner (not Mario) was very helpful with taking out garbage and showing us how to operate the washer/dryer machine. The Internet was intermittent but with patience we could generally get on each evening and each morning if we stood in the kitchen. One day while cooking breakfast I discovered the water was off which made getting ready for the day inconvenient. It was off about an hour and no one ever mentioned why. The value was excellent and we had a pleasant stay. There is a coffee maker but no toaster. I used the oven quite successfully for toast each morning. The living room furniture is attractive but not particularly comfortable so if you are spending much time in the apartment you may wish for something a bit more comfortable.

  • Spent 2 weeks in this very convenient and spacious apartment. The living area, the kitchen, bedroom and dining area is ample for two people. It is very close to the Metropolitana(rapid bus system) and to other food and banking services. The only inconvenience is the staircase which is narrow and I had the misfortune a couple of times of not ducking my head at a landing. One learns to not forget ! I would return because it is lovely, private and convenient.

  • Mario was a very welcoming host and the apartment was just as described. When we were missing something (like a new gas bottle), he arranged to replace it it very quickly and efficiently. We enjoyed our time in the apartment very much!

    August 2013
  • Mario's apartment was modern, spacious, and well-located -- we didn't even realize beforehand, but it's only a 5 or 10 minute walk away from the Benavides stop on the Metropolitano, which made it very handy to get around. Mario was very responsive, and even helped us arrange a car to and from the airport for a very reasonable price. All in all, we very much enjoyed our stay.
