A lovely clean space with double bed, built in wardrobe and shelves for clothing and a bathroom en suite. Crisp clean linen, towels and breakfast provided, all 5 minutes from everywhere special in Oxford.
This house was bought for its location - being so close to the centre of an amazing city like Oxford has really paid off. Its lovely being a short walk away from all that is going on here - so much beauty, learning and green spaces for a bit of peace.
The accommodation consists of a double bedroom with en suite bathroom. The room is reached by going downstairs through the garden and has its own entrance. (check out the photos) The house is Edwardian outside but super modern inside - minimalist emphasis on style over content.
Guests can expect a clean and comfortable night's stay with a shower/bathroom, towels provided. The bed is quite low down to the floor, so may present difficulties for disabled guests. Tea and coffee making facilities are provided in the room, and, there are plenty of great cafes nearby.
There is an electric heater in case you feel chilly in English summers (!) and an iron and ironing board available if wanted.
Unfortunately, only adults can be accommodated here as the room is not set up for children, however little!
Breakfast is provided upstairs which will be home made muesli, juice, fruit in season, home bread bread and marmalade - see photos! Seriously good for you!
Three doors down from the house is one of Oxford's best Lebanese restaurants, and up the road is Oxford's trendy Jericho area full of bars and restaurants. There is an excellent art house cinema 7 minutes walk away - which shows lots of foreign films - see photos.
The bus station (which has 2 lines to London) is 5 minutes walk away and the train station is 11 minutes walk away.
Their own entrance to their room so they can come and go as they please. Breakfast provided upstairs.
Interaction with Guests
I like having breakfast with guests and providing them with a yummy healthy start to the day. I will be present to give keys and introduce guests to their rooms.
Jericho is the coolest place to live in Oxford. It is its own little neighbourhood with bars, restaurants, cinema, pubs with music nights AND 5 minutes from the main shopping streets and some of the most beautiful architecture in England - Oxford University.
Everywhere is walkable and bikes can be hired nearby.
Other Things to Note
Check out this recent review from the NY Times on Oxford:
Get in touch nearer the time you are coming to stay to make arrangements about meeting up and handing over keys.
I don't make check in/check out times but when there are guests back to back I expect people to be out of the bedroom by 10.00 am latest so we can clean and get ready for the next guests. You are welcome to leave your luggage safely here, by arrangement.
No hair dying in the bathroom - we recently had a guest who did this and the place was covered in brown gunk!
No smoking either!
I booked the B&B for my father who had found Hoonie to be very friendly and welcoming. The room was very nice and I will defiantly book again.
My father will be returning in June and hopes to stay at Hoonie's B&B. Great place, lovely host, fantastic location. looking forward to booking again in the near future.
I really enjoyed staying here. Clean, cosy, great location, and truly delightful hosts. I can't say enough positive things about the absolutely amazing breakfast. I would recommend to anyone needing a nice, friendly place to stay in Oxford.
We had a lovely time with Hoonie and Hugh. They were such interesting and warm hosts! The room and bathroom were lovely and the breakfasts were healthy and delicious. The location was amazing and the whole experience was classic Oxford! We would highly recommend and would come back.
Hoonie's place is beautiful and comfortable, warm and clean! And the homemade breakfast absolutely delicious! They also, although we met them briefly, are very friendly! Totally recommended.
Hoonie and Hugh were very nice to us. We stayed here for three nights. Our schedule was very tight, but they tried their best to cope with our early departure and made sure we got everything we need. Breakfast was homemade and delicious, the house is pretty and in a very quiet neighborhood.
As many have said below, staying with Hoonie and Hugh was an exceptional experience. They were both very welcoming, the room was clean, warm, well lit, and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was tasty, very filling (as advertised!), and Hugh and Hoonie are great company. When we come back to Oxford, we won't bother looking into staying anywhere else.
Great place to stay, exceeded expectation on everything- especially breakfast! Perfect to get a true feel for what Oxford is like to a local.
I live with my husband Hugh in a small Edwardian house but its interior is very modern, minimalist and chic. We rent out a double bedroom with ensuite shower room in the basement where you would have your own separate entrance. Continental breakfast is provided with home made muesli, bread and marmalade.
We've had people staying here from all over the world and enjoy meeting new people - good to get a view from outside one's own country. We have travelled very extensively - in 2010 for nearly a year backpacking in Latin America.
I am a Quaker (look them up on (website hidden)) which doesn't mean I am religious but it does mean I like to behave as ethically and responsibly as I can over all issues, particularly regarding the Quaker peace testimony and protecting the environment. A Quaker saying which I try to live up to is: "let your life speak".
