The Space

This house was bought for its location - being so close to the centre of an amazing city like Oxford has really paid off. It's lovely being a short walk away from all that is going on here - so much beauty, learning and green spaces for a bit of peace.

The guest accommodation consists of a double bedroom, in our basement, with an en suite shower room. Our house is small (a price we were happy to pay for the central location) so don't expect a huge and spacious room! It measures 11' x 9' or 3.3m x 2.8m. The room is reached by going downstairs through the garden and has its own entrance (check out the photos). The house is Edwardian outside but super modern inside - minimalist emphasis on style over content.

Guests can expect a clean and comfortable night's stay with a shower/bathroom, towels provided. Tea and coffee making facilities are provided in the room, and there are plenty of great cafes nearby. There is a hairdryer provided with a mirror beside it.

There is an electric heater in case you feel chilly in English summers (!) and an iron and ironing board available if wanted.

Unfortunately, only adults can be accommodated here as the room is not set up for children, however little!

Breakfast is provided upstairs which will be home made muesli, juice, fruit in season, home bread bread and marmalade - see photos! Seriously good for you!

Three doors down from the house is one of Oxford's best Lebanese restaurants, and up the road is Oxford's trendy Jericho area full of bars and restaurants. There is an excellent art house cinema 7 minutes walk away - which shows lots of foreign films - see photos.

The bus station (which has 2 lines to London) is 7 minutes walk away and the train station is 12 minutes walk away.

Guest Access

Their own entrance to their room so they can come and go as they please. Breakfast is provided upstairs.
Few of our guests arrive by car as the transport links to Oxford are easy to use, and our house is so close to the city centre - but for those who do want to park, there is a website called justpark that lists nearby places.

Interaction with Guests

We like having breakfast with guests, and providing them with a yummy healthy start to the day. Whenever possible one of us will be at home to give out keys and introduce guests to their rooms. We have a new key-safe system so that guests can check themselves in at other times.

The Neighborhood

Jericho is the coolest place to live in Oxford. It is its own little neighbourhood with bars, restaurants, cinema, pubs with music nights AND 5 minutes from the main shopping streets and some of the most beautiful architecture in England - Oxford University.

Getting Around

Everywhere is walkable and bikes can be hired nearby. Guests have used Walton Street Cycles, which is a short walk away.

I live with my husband Hugh in a small Edwardian house but its interior is very modern, minimalist and chic. We rent out a double bedroom with ensuite shower room in the basement where you would have your own separate entrance. Continental breakfast is provided with home made muesli, bread and marmalade.

We've had people staying here from all over the world and enjoy meeting new people - good to get a view from outside one's own country. We have travelled very extensively - in 2010 for nearly a year backpacking in Latin America.

I am a Quaker (look them up on ) which doesn't mean I am religious but it does mean I like to behave as ethically and responsibly as I can over all issues, particularly regarding the Quaker peace testimony and protecting the environment. A Quaker saying which I try to live up to is: "let your life speak".
