A lovely clean space with double bed, built in wardrobe and shelves for clothing and a bathroom en suite. Crisp clean linen, towels and breakfast provided, all 5 minutes from everywhere special in Oxford.

The Space

This house was bought for its location - being so close to the centre of an amazing city like Oxford has really paid off. Its lovely being a short walk away from all that is going on here - so much beauty, learning and green spaces for a bit of peace.

The accommodation consists of a double bedroom with en suite bathroom. The room is reached by going downstairs through the garden and has its own entrance. (check out the photos) The house is Edwardian outside but super modern inside - minimalist emphasis on style over content.

Guests can expect a clean and comfortable night's stay with a shower/bathroom, towels provided. The bed is quite low down to the floor, so may present difficulties for disabled guests. Tea and coffee making facilities are provided in the room, and, there are plenty of great cafes nearby.

There is an electric heater in case you feel chilly in English summers (!) and an iron and ironing board available if wanted.

Unfortunately, only adults can be accommodated here as the room is not set up for children, however little!

Breakfast is provided upstairs which will be home made muesli, juice, fruit in season, home bread bread and marmalade - see photos! Seriously good for you!

Three doors down from the house is one of Oxford's best Lebanese restaurants, and up the road is Oxford's trendy Jericho area full of bars and restaurants. There is an excellent art house cinema 7 minutes walk away - which shows lots of foreign films - see photos.

The bus station (which has 2 lines to London) is 5 minutes walk away and the train station is 11 minutes walk away.

Guest Access

Their own entrance to their room so they can come and go as they please. Breakfast provided upstairs.

Interaction with Guests

I like having breakfast with guests and providing them with a yummy healthy start to the day. I will be present to give keys and introduce guests to their rooms.

The Neighborhood

Jericho is the coolest place to live in Oxford. It is its own little neighbourhood with bars, restaurants, cinema, pubs with music nights AND 5 minutes from the main shopping streets and some of the most beautiful architecture in England - Oxford University.

Getting around

Everywhere is walkable and bikes can be hired nearby.

  • Hoonie is such a lovely, friendly, thoughtful person and was so accommodating and welcoming. We loved our time in Oxford and Hoonie had many excellent recommendations of what to see and where to eat. It was so fun chatting with her in the morning and enjoying her amazing marmalade, homemade bread, muesli, and tea.

  • A charming host and a great central location make Hugh and Hoonie's home a great location for a visit to Oxford. An excellent selection of restaurants within an easy walk and close proximity to the bus and train stations make it even better. Hoonie gave us excellent recommendations on sites to see during our visit.

  • Our stay with Hoonie was just perfect. Hoonie was very accommodating and made us the most delicious healthy, organic breakfast each morning which was exactly what we enjoy. she also provided us with local knowledge on a great place to get coffee which lived up to the recommendation. the accommodation was exactly as portrayed, very comfortable, and convenient to have our own access, as well as ideal access to the town center which was an easy stroll. We would highly recommend.

  • We had a lovely time at Hoonie's home in Oxford. The bedroom and bath were very clean & the bed was super comfortable. But one of the best parts was breakfast with Hoonie in the morning! Excellent, yummy breakfast, homemade marmalade that was incredible and great conversation. Hoonie had loads of information for us and knows Oxford very well. Told us what colleges to visit when it seemed that they were closed for exams week. There are many pubs and restaurants around, but the best is The Rickety Press — a great pub! Lots of lovely beers and very, very good food (not just pub fare).
We had a wonderful time & would go back to Hoonie's in a second!

  • Exactly as advertised: a lovely, private space, with easy access to central Oxford and the train/bus station. The hosts, Hoonie and Hugh, were gracious and accommodating on every level, as well as spirited breakfast companions. I recommend this listing highly.

  • My four days in Oxford were engaged in an academic meeting in the Randolph Hotel with lodgings at Hoonie's. The meetings were almost wall to wall lectures with banquets/visits to local sites interspersed. My room with ensuite there offered a welcome respite from all that. It was clean, quiet, comfortable and easily accessible by foot to all I needed and wanted to do. Hoonie was a pleasant host with interesting, intelligent, and often funny conversation. Breakfasts at table with her were both delicious and fun. Her granola, home made bread, and french press coffee hit the spot, and she responded as a friend, sharing experiences and insights without being overwhelming. The restaurant on the corner (Al Shami) offered excellent and healthy mediterranean fare. Too bad I was only able to take advantage of it once.
All in all a friendly and comfortable stay.

  • Hoonie made me feel very welcome despite also dealing with her partner being in hospital. A lovely lady and a comfortable, clean room. Very central location, perfect for exploring Oxford. Highly recommended

I am retired
I live in a small Edwardian house but its interior is very modern, minimalist and chic. I rent out a double bedroom with bathroom ensuite in the basement where you would have your own separate entrance. Continental breakfast is provided with home made muesli, bread and marmalade. I've had people staying here from all over the world and enjoy meeting new people - good to get a view from outside one's own country. I have travelled very extensively - in 2010 for nearly a year in Latin America. I am a Quaker (look them up on (website hidden)) which doesn't mean I am religious but it does mean I like to behave as ethically and responsibly as I can over all issues, particularly regarding the Quaker peace testimony and protecting the environment. A Quaker saying which I try to live up to is: "let your life speak".
