The Space

Large, comfortable double room in a typically English home, a Victorian terrace house with original features.

The room has heaps of charm. On a level of its own, secluded and private. Fresh crisp bed linens, clean towels, tea and coffee making facilities, are provided with plenty of storage in a chest of drawers and antique wardrobe.

This period Victorian property has a vintage feel, with fire places and roll-top bath, but it also has mod cons including free wireless broadband and an ipod docking station and hairdryer in your room. Please note there is no television in the room but you can view on the internet using wifi.

We have spent a lot of time renovating and making the place homey, attractive and practical and hope you enjoy your stay here.

Delightfully large, comfortable, light and airy double room in Victorian house.

Close to central London but in a quiet tree lined street in vibrant arty areas of Camberwell & Peckham. With great transport links to London Bridge, Victoria and Shoreditch. Seven minutes walk to the nearest train station. Bus stop at the end of the road which goes straight to the centre of town on the buses (phone number hidden) or 436.

Family friendly. Travel cot available.

WHERE The surrounding area, Peckham and Camberwell are vibrant and creative pockets of London; the places to see young artists in London. There are numerous galleries, great bars and amazing local places to eat - Ganapati (Southern Indian cuisine), The Begging Bowl (great Thai food) The Crooked Well (Michellin Recommended Gastro Pub), The Victoria and The Peckham Rye (brilliant gastropubs if you wish to eat local), Andersen and Co (a great place for a cake and coffee stop), Petitou (for a light lunch) and Manze's Pie & Mash shop (a London institution) are all less than 10 minutes walk from the house.
Peckham Market is also open every day and also seven minutes walk from the house. The South London Gallery is at the end of the road and always has good temporary exhibitions.
Enjoy the best of both world being in a vibrant local neighbourhood yet close to London's centre.

ACCOMODATION This period Victorian property has a vintage feel, real log fire and roll-top bath, but all the mod cons including free wireless broadband and an ipod docking station in your room. Please note there is no television in the room but you can view on the internet using wifi.

Parking outside the house on the street is free. There are no parking restrictions. The house is also an ideal base to explore Brighton, Oxford, Stone Henge, and other parts of Southern or Central England. We try to cater to your needs and are open and approachable with a respect for people's privacy.

TRANSPORT The location is ideal for fast commuting to any part of the city on any mode of public transport. Peckham Rye or Denmark Hill tubes run into Shoreditch HIgh Street. Trains to Victoria and London Bridge in 11 minutes.
There are also numerous buses to all parts of London from the end of the road going to ALL major sights on a single bus ride (London Eye, Big Ben, Westminister Abbey, Downing St, Nelson's Column, Trafalgar Square, National Gallery, Covent Garden, Oxford Street, Marble Arch & Hyde Park).

ABOUT US We are a TV director/producer and designer who like to stay creative and tuned in to all London has to offer. A British/Australian couple who have stopped our own travel for a few years to look after our young son who is almost a year old. We opened our family home in Winchester to guests for many years so hosting is in our blood. We understand how important it is to have a sense of your own space to relax. We invite you to make yourself at home and ask us for any advice or anything that you need to get the most out of your trip.

Guest Access

We have two shared bathrooms in the house. On the top floor next to your bedroom is a bathroom with walk-in shower, toilet and sink. On the floor below is the main bathroom (which we tend to use) which has a roll-top bath, toilet, and sink. Guests are very welcome to use either.

For guests that choose to eat breakfast, this is served downstairs in the dining room (please see photos).

Although we don't offer cooking facilities (please see house rules) the kitchen is often available to sit in. We can heat up food for you to eat there.

We are a bit like a traditional English Bed and Breakfast and generally expect guests to be out and about in the day exploring and enjoying London. It gives us the chance to do some cleaning and make lots of noise without disturbing you. However there are exceptions to the rule and if you want to stay here one particular morning or afternoon please just let us know.

Interaction with Guests

We love to meet our guests and hear how your journies have been and make sure that you are comfortable and enjoy your time in London. So we love to see you for a brief chat but we understand how important it is to have a sense of your own space to relax. We invite you to make yourself at home and ask us for any advice or anything that you need to get the most out of your trip.

We will give you our mobile number numbers for advice if and when you need it.

    - Lovely and friendly neighbourhood, with kind neighbours and beautiful front yards.
    - The house is big, comfy, quiet. Perfect for resting. You can use the wardrobe and the chest of drawers. You are provided with one key for the room. There are several books of the city in the room for you to use if needed.
    - The hosts were very helpful: Daniel greeted us with a huge map of the city, showing us the best way to go to everywhere we were going to, all buses lines, everything!
Madeline is lovely as Fabian is, their son is absolutely cute and friendly!
Both Maddie and Daniel are very calmed.

This is our first experience in a B&B accommodation and we'll repeat for sure! Next time in London we'll book this room again undoubtely.

We highly recommend these hosts and their house to everyone!!

    Response from Madeline & Daniel:

This was not a cancellation. Sandy is actually staying with us next week.
She initially booked the wrong dates and we both know the mistake had
happened and talked about it on messages. We just thought the booking had
been cancelled on the site. When it was clear it hadn't been removed I
cancelled it to avoid Sandy being charged but sadly this message has been
put up in error. I have never cancelled a guest. I always honor the
    commitment to my guests.

  • Very pleasant stay in london! Madeline and Dan were super helpful showing us directions and places to go to. The house was super clean, and the bed was comfortable. The room was not super big but I guess it's a decent size in european standards. only downside was that you can hear upstairs if they are walking around. but nonetheless we had a good sleep!

  • Diego and Kim enjoyed their stay at Madeline and Dan very much. They have particularly appreciated their tips about restaurants and pubs in the area. They fully recommend this lovely BnB.

  • A wonderful stay ! We had a fantastic one week stay with Madeline, Dan and their cute baby boy. They were so helpful and made us feel at home. Their lovely house is so conveniently located that it only take 10mn to reach Victoria station. This is a quiet residential area and , as a bonus, you can see London from the top of the street !

  • I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Maddie and Dan's. they were very helpful in providing advice on sites to see and places to eat/drink. Their home was warming and comfortable. It was also easily accessible by train or bus. I highly recommend staying at this house.

  • me and my daughter had a really good time in London, and to stay in Maddy's and Dan's house was perfekt, we felt like at home :-) And we also like very much the quarter around Pecam Rye!

    August 2013
  • Maddy and Dan are a very welcoming couple (and little Fabian is adorable) and made us feel very much at home. A lovely house, a comfortable bed, a quiet bedroom and a great location. We stayed here 12 nights and chose the location as it was close to my daughter and son in law who were having a new baby. What we hadn't realised was how handy it was for getting into central London. Why on earth would you want to pay an exorbitant price for a noisy cramped room in a hotel in central London when you could stay here? This was the first time that we had used airbnb and were a little apprehensive. We shouldn't have been- it suited us perfectly. Thank you!
