About This Listing
"Perfect room; exceptional mattress, beautiful bedding" on quiet hillside street overlooking central London near the buzzing arty and multicultural areas for Camberwell (with its Art College) and Peckham (with its bustling market).
Large, comfortable double room in a typically English home, a Victorian terrace house with original features.
The room has heaps of charm. On a level of its own, secluded and private. Fresh crisp bed linens, clean towels, tea and coffee making facilities, are provided with plenty of storage in a chest of drawers and antique wardrobe.
This period Victorian property has a vintage feel, with fire places and roll-top bath, but it also has mod cons including free wireless broadband and an ipod docking station and hairdryer in your room. Please note there is no television in the room but you can view on the internet using wifi.
We have spent a lot of time renovating and making the place homey, attractive and practical and hope you enjoy your stay here.
We have two shared bathrooms in the house. On the top floor next to your bedroom is a bathroom with walk-in shower, toilet and sink. On the floor below is the main bathroom (which we tend to use) which has a roll-top bath, toilet, and sink. Guests are very welcome to use either.
For guests that choose to eat breakfast, at £5 a head, this is served downstairs in the dining room (please see photos).
Although we don't offer full kitchen cooking facilities (please see house rules) the kitchen is often available to sit in. We can heat up food for you to eat there.
We are a bit like a traditional English Bed and Breakfast and generally expect guests to be out and about in the day exploring and enjoying London. It gives us the chance to do some cleaning and make lots of noise without disturbing you. However there are exceptions to the rule and if you want to stay here one particular morning or afternoon please just let us know.
Interaction with Guests
We love to meet our guests and hear how your journies have been and make sure that you are comfortable and enjoy your time in London. So we love to see you for a brief chat but we understand how important it is to have a sense of your own space to relax. We invite you to make yourself at home and ask us for any advice or anything that you need to get the most out of your trip.
We will give you our mobile number numbers for advice if and when you need it.
Camberwell is a Victorian residential area in Zone 2 (out of 6 Zone that make up London) mainly built one to two hundred years ago. It was originally a village with water wells and springs that attracted holidaymakers rest, relaxation and health reasons.
Now, Camberwell and Peckham are the places to see young artists in London. Its a vibrant and creative multicultural area with numerous galleries, great bars and amazing local places to eat; The Peckham Refreshment Room (modern tapas in a lovely bar near the station) Ganapati (Southern Indian cuisine), The Begging Bowl (great Thai food), The Crooked Well (Michellin Recommended Gastro Pub), The Victoria and The Peckham Rye (good gastropubs if you wish to eat local), Andersen and Co (a great place for a slice of cake), Melange (for French chocolates), Petitou (for a light lunch) and Manze's Pie & Mash shop (a London institution) are all less than 10 minutes walk from the house.
Peckham Market is also open every day and also seven minutes walk from the house. The South London Gallery is at the end of the road and always has good temporary exhibitions.
Enjoy the best of both world being in a vibrant local neighbourhood yet close to London's centre.

Booked the room for my parents and they had a great stay at Maddy and Daniel's house. Before my parents' arrival I had contacted Maddy several times regarding to the stairs and how to get to her place. Maddy was really patient, she gave me advices and re-arranged the room so my parents can stay on first floor and thus to ease my concern.
The room is always warm and the bed is comfortable. Even though the house is not located on main street and require some walk to get to, the place is very quite (and safe!), the bus network in that area is excellent too, easy to access everywhere in London.
Excellent in all respects! Beautiful and beautifully furnished Victorian house, very comfortable in all respects, great location, and Maddie and Dan are great hosts: very helpful, interesting, and always cooking intriguing stuff! Great location too. Strongly recommended.
Maddy and Dan have been great hosts. Anya and me stayed at their place like tourists, although we visit London quite a few times a year. They were extremely gracious especially on the first night when we were feeling frosty, and I texted them in the middle of the night to raise the heating. As it turned out, it was -5C that night, the coldest day of the season! We loved their Victorian house. The location of their house is also great, it is close to Camberwell where there are a number of really good restaurants and cafes. Thanks for hosting us.
Maddy is an angel. I loved staying at this place, everything was nice. Beautiful room, perfect bed, facilities just next door. I recommend it to everyone who loves meeting people in their everyday life. Dan was very nice too and happy-go Fabian is a real joy. Thank you all and have the best christmas time. Fränzi
My hosts made me feel very welcome. I arrived late and this was no problem for them. The home was stylish, warm and cozy even though it was sub zero outside. Both Madeline and Daniel were always friendly and helpful. travel-wise the house was under half an hour on the bus from hyde park corner and about the same to get to east london on the overland. the room was lovely. this is a great place to stay with lovely hosts. will definitely return if I am working in the nearby hospital again.
Really nice place to stay! We were perfectly welcomed by Daniel who explained us the ins and outs of London in a clear way. He had great tips. The other two days a friend of his (penny) was very helpful and kind. We felt at home. The neighbourhood was nice especially the restaurant over there and a nice bar on top of a parking lot.
We slept very good and overall we would certainly recommend a stay at madeline and Daniel!
